  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What should we pay for a v6 and an R-spec?

Hi guys!

I have been lurking around the site for months now (I own a Sonata) and have been dying to jump into the Genny. Originally I loved the 15 when it came out, but the price difference between getting a 13' / 14' has made me decide that I want to go with the 1G.

In any event, in a perfect world, I would want to land an R-Spec, but it may be too much, especially since my commute is quite horrible to enjoy it (Stop and Go traffic in Northern NJ). So with that said, although I am not discounting it yet, but I may be looking at a 3.8 with some tech or just a "bare bones" one.

Do you have any suggestions? and if so, what do you think (as the summer is winding down, and the 15's have hit the dealerships) should be paid for these? I do not mind waiting this out a little longer, but if the right deal comes along, I want to pull the trigger. Also, I do not mind going out of State to get the car.

Sorry about the long rant, and thank you for your responses beforehand!

You should be able to get $8K - $10K off MSRP of a brand new 2013/2014. If it is a demo, maybe a little more off. I would not wait much longer if you want one.

For a 2013, I received 25% off MSRP for a 3.8 Tech in April. I would imagine now that the 2015s are out, the 2014's should be going for about that much off as well.

A Premium package only V6 model would give you the best value, in my opinion. Touchscreen Nav and no worries about having to fiddle with any nasty DIS knob on the console.

There are not a lot of demos in my area... :( Or at least, I have not been able to find them...

That was the way I wanted to go if I could find an R-Spec. But I would definitely go this route if possible (even for a non r-spec)

I really like this idea. Truecar lists this option around 32k, so I am hoping to be able to come under that. Perhaps closer to 30.

That is what I was hoping, but I have not seen much variation since... I am yet to see a much better deal than the 25% off MSRP that you are talking about. And as you properly mention, I hoped that with the 15's hitting the dealerships, this would create more incentives for the 14's

You leave my DIS knob alone!

I like the DIS knob. It's weighted perfectly, feels high quality, and the interface is very responsive. Plus I can also use it without taking my eyes off the road since I know how many "notches" most functions are.

Ditto that on the DIS knob. No greasy fingerprints on the screen and eyes on the road. Kinda has a James Bond feel to it as well. I bought my new '13 R spec in March '14. Hammered them down to $40K burning gas with 5 "free" maintenance visits, window tints, wheel/tire insurance and an extra set of R spec floor mats. I was feeling pretty smug until I read about better deals on this forum. My best advice is to show up on the last day of the month, beat the salesperson for their "best" deal and walk away. They'll send the OWNER to bring you in from the lot before you make it to your car. Car buying can be SO much fun.

I test drove a premium 2012 and an Rspec 2012. There was no way I was getting the premium, tech package on rspec adds the Auto HID which is a must, and the engine power difference is too noticable. The headlights are nicer on the Rspec as well, especially if you get black.

The 3.8 Tech has the same headlights.

Skyeg,
I have both a 2012 3.8 premium pak and a 2013 5.0. I let the wife drive the 5.0 most of the time, let her put the High test in, it's just a small commute for her. In town the driving is almost the same. In matter of fact I like the 3.8 better.
To each his own
IMHO

Guys, it's all about the power! Drive a R spec for an extended time and you'll be a believer. It's fun knowing you can surprise the hell out anything with a SS/RT/GT badge. Also, I'm still finding do-dads and gizmos I didn't know the car had. (There's something to be said about not reading the entire owners manual.) All told, if you can afford the higher sticker price, the R spec is the better choice. There's virtually no options 'cause they're already there. I'll stick my neck out and predict better desirability and return at resale. Of course, that's my opinion, I could be wrong.

I disagree.

I could afford the higher price of the R-Spec and chose the 3.8 Tech. Mainly because I didn't want the firmer suspension of the R-Spec. I came from an '11 TL SH-AWD w/6 speed manual. While the seats were comfortable and it handled like a dream, my back couldn't take the firm suspension (and my family passengers hated the ride).

If Hyundai continued to offer the 5.0 in non-RSpec form, that would have been in the running, and I would have been weighing the pros/cons of power vs. gas mileage.

For me, the 3.8 was the *only* choice regardless of price.

I really enjoy the smoothness of the V8 engine in the Rspec, along with its ride and handling. It suffices! I highly doubt that I would paddle shift, maybe once here and there, (had that on my 04Grand Prix GTP), and adjusting the steering and suspension, maybe, just maybe, here and there. Not the features in a car that I am looking for. I do miss my blind spot mirror feature, which I used ALL the time, but, you cannot have it all, maybe you can, if you pay the price. Just wished my head unit would work so I can listen to music or voices while I drive, but that should be, hopefully, remedied next week.
