  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What surprises have you "found" in your car...

I did quite a bit of research on the WRG3's and I think they are a good choice for me. I live in Vancouver but regularly make two to three day road trips to the interior of BC every two weeks or so throughout the year. The last two sets of tires being all seasons were OK in town but offered pretty poor (and sometimes dangerous) performance in the worst conditions so I thought that this time I would get a tire that was better in the snow but also good in the cold and wet which we get a lot in the winter here in Vancouver. I'll probably change over to a summer tire in the spring and then back to the Nokians the following fall.

Sounds like you've got it figured out pretty well. Wise choice IMHO.

I discovered that the outside mirrors have some sort of catch that releases in an impact so the mirror housing comes loose from the motor mechanism and swings free. I accidently brushed the passenger mirror against a trash bin in a tight parking lot and thought I had totaled it when it folded back and stopped responding to the control button. I just got out and on a prayer carefully unfolded it back out until I heard a click and then it was back to normal. Now I just need to polish out the scratch in the plastic turn signal lens, and remember next time to fold the mirrors manually before trying to fit through a tight spot.

I have. Replaced with 235/50/18 Bridgestone Serenity's. Made a very noticeable improvement in ride quality. The stock Dunlops are garbage.

Did the same thing, rides like a 7 series for half the price.:D

How many miles do you have on the tires? (I'm buying new tires this spring and beginning my research now)

I changed them out when the car had 18K miles, plenty of tread left on the OEM's but I didn't like the "highway hop", saw the great reviews on the Serenity, which I have 14K on now. Got them on Tirerack.com where I buy all my tire, which gave a pretty good rating. Very quiet, smooth ride, with good handling, would buy again.

Discovered that if you have the rear shade up and put it in reverse, the shade comes down until you put it back in drive and the shade goes back up. Kool.

In order for the side mirrors to auto tilt the selection switch has to be on either the left or the right. If left in the middle they do not tilt. This is logically backwards. Should tilt when centered but not when on left or right.

How is that "more" logical?

Did not see this posted but you can program the door unlock to either unlock the driver door or all the doors with 1 button press on the key fob. I did not like having to double unlock to unlock all the doors as i normally have people sit in the back seat.

Someone previously noted that the side mirrors will redirect down when the shifter is in reverse IF the mirror adjust selector is NOT in the middle - in other words, the left side mirror is selected.

What I found is that I do not like the mirrors to always adjust down automatically. However this feature works even if you switch the selector to the left mirror position after the transmission is in reverse. So, when you are backing up and want to get an outside view of a curb that is behind you, you can make the mirror move down simply by selecting the LEFT position on the mirror adjustment selector. It can be valuable additional perspective to the back-up camera. Got to protect those wheels and paint from curb rash...

This is something that I find useful.

(each) side mirror has the LED facing downward that lights up the ground near the door.
Very nice and useful feature, especially at night in a dark parking lot, indeed!

I still haven't figured out exactly when that led turns on and when it doesn't. I remember seeing it on a few times but when I unlock my car to get in, it doesn't light up.

I often use the button key at the door handle to get in and when I do, while the car still locked, the LED lights up nicely when I'm walking within 10 ft of the car.
If you unlock the from a distance using the remote, the LED remains off.
Of course this feature is useless in day light.

THANK YOU for telling me how to make the mirrors adjust to see the curbs better. I was a little miffed that my car didn't do that, or that's what I thought until i read your post/ I actually think the Hyundai setup is the best. It means you don;t have to worry about accidentally moving the mirrors out of position while driving, or opening or closing doors. And moving the button when backing up is super easy. Perfect for me because I don;t want the mirrors to move when backing into my driveway, but I do when parallel parking in downtown Seattle/ Perfect solution for me:)

On my 2013 I found out that the outside mirrors "duck" if touched or passed very close. Found out when a motorcycle lane splitting just touched the mirror with his elbow. The car is trying to protect itself!

This isn't something I want to test out in fear of breaking them.

Seriously, is something passes really close to the outside mirrors, they close?

Yes. I don't know if they need to be touched or just passed close. I was at a light in drive and idling and a motorcyclist split the lanes and passed very close. I don't think he touched the mirror but I'm not sure. I just went, "where did my mirrors go!?" Oh they folded in. Pushed the button and they returned to normal My car is a 2013 R spec. :)

Opened the truck of my '12 R Spec for the first time and found a luggage net and OEM Hyundai rubber mats for winter! Also a Journey CD in disc2 left behind hahaha.

Just tried this in the parking lot, and it doesnt work on my car. 2011 3.8. Is this an option on some kind of package?
