  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What surprises have you "found" in your car...

Nice. Good point about the integrated bluetooth. I didn't realize that is where the speaker went

Thanks. I have the Bluetooth speaker there.

I like that the side door pockets flip down. In all my other cars once I put something in the side door pocket I could never get it out. I also like that the taillights blink briefly when closing the trunk giving you positive feedback that the trunk did indeed close.

There are 3 setting on the side mirror controls. Left, Center and Right. When backing up, the right setting will force the right mirror down. If set to the left it will force both mirrors down. When set to center, both mirrors will remain unchanged. I found this out by accident. Nice post SterlingDave!

Aha! Thanks for this info.....I've been using the trial and error method to figure this out. Now I don't have to anymore. :D

And, thanks for the complement.

Yeah, that was a pleasant surprise, I figured that out when I was cleaning it. Good idea. You can tell they put a lot of thought into this thing.

Yep, those side door pockets are nice. BUT, I cannot duplicate the "taillights blink" when closing the trunk. I tried with the switch (in the glove compartment) on and off and still no blink. What do you think am I missing?

I can only get it to do that when the doors are locked.

That's a tough one, since there have been a lot of things I've discovered (or knew about before I bought the car) from genesisowners.com :)

My self-discoveries:
  • For XM radio and voice command, you can say something like "channel CNN," "channel XM 20 on 20," or "channel 80's on 8" and the speech recognition does a pretty good job with that.
  • For the integrated Bluetooth and voice command, you can speak the entire phone number even though the prompts say to say the numbers one at a time--provided you speak fast enough. Any pauses causes the system to try to recognize the input. So, you can do: 2 "two, bing" 1 "one, bing" 3 "three, bing" etc. etc. or 2135551212 for "two one three five five five one two one two, bing"
  • Reversing with the backup camera will cause the camera output to override anything that is displayed on screen, including the disclaimer warning.
  • Reversing will cancel voice command.
  • The only way I've found to cancel route guidance on the GPS is to say that via voice command.
  • You can set the door locks to auto lock based on speed (or by shifting out of park)
  • You can have the car retract the driver's seat and/or steering wheel on exit.
  • The glass is laminated--good for sound insulation as well as protected my windshield from a rock strike.
  • The center rear headrest can fold up/down (and that when up, it's annoying because it blocks a good portion of the center rear view).

Good job, DG. As soon as I start trying voice commands, your list will be in my hands for sure.

So, how do you set the door to auto locks based on speed? Currently, the locks set after I start moving (I'm not sure what speed), and they unlock when I set the tranny to park.

My seat (and steering wheel) already retract without my doing anything special. Is there something I could do to make it stop? I'm not sure I want to know cause I really like this feature.

Hey, nice one, DG. It works like a charm.

Note to all you guys w/the surprises: I'm either going to have to move my PC to the garage or park gennie by my PC. I'm getting tired of running back and forth to the garage to try all this stuff. :D

Dataguy - you can cancel route guidance by going to "change route" -- took me a while to find it tucked away in there.

Actually, I didn't know you could cancel it by voice... isn't this forum handy? :D

...unless you have a model without integrated Bluetooth, in which case the Bluetooth speaker module replaces the sunglasses holder.

I have bluetooth & what Hyundai calls a sunglass holder above the mirror. The problem is you can't use it with the glass case. Are the radio speakers used to both send and receive calls?

Just went to this site http://worldwide.hyundai.com/. Does anyone have mood lighting in their car? I see other options that arent available everywhere on the planet.. :(

Did any notice the tires? They are not Dunlop 5000 like the bovine excrament we had foisted on us. They ride on Kumho Solos. Don't know nuch about them exept that they cost less the the Dunlops; but I doubt they aren't better. Maybe Hyundai does listen.

Hmmm, thanks, didn't know that!

Unless I'm missing something, that requires 10 actions (button presses/movements) to cancel a route. You basically have to go to the nav menu, change route, select the destination, and then delete or delete all. Oh, and then you have to confirm that you really wanted to delete the route point. :(

Much easier to say "suspend route guidance" :)

If you have Bluetooth and the sunglasses holder, then you have the integrated Bluetooth system that comes with the Technology package. Those without the Tech pkg have to make due with the non-integrated system and no holder.

With the integrated system, the calls are played through the sound system and controlled by the DIS; with the non-integrated system, the calls are played through a small speaker unit where the sunglasses holder would be.

So, DG, what you are saying is that to get the sunglasses holder you have to buy the tech package? Sorta pricey for a sunglasses holder! Seriously, thanks for that clarification.

OK, Mark, maybe I'm stepping outside this thread a bit, but what tires would you put on your gennie to replace the Dunlops if price were no object?

Yep, that's one way to look at it! :D

This really isn't what you were asking, but the biggest surprise I found in my car was under the driver seat. It was a Bic-style lighter with Korean writing on it courtesy of the assembly-line I am sure.
