What surprises have you "found" in your car...

While there are lots of great things about this car, two big negatives for me are: 1. Much less interior storage areas than in previous cars. (For the center armrest, most cars have an upper small storage unit in addition to the deeper CD storage area, for example) 2. The TPMS system just activated, and if what I read is true, I need to go to the dealer to reset it every time. It is activating now due to colder weather, so this could be a daily occurence!

No you don't need to go to the dealer.....just pump 'em up and the warning icons go off!

The center armrest does have an upper small storage,
I keep my ipod in there,there is an access hole for the cable from the larger bin.

In the 2010 Genesis with the Tech Package I can play DVD movies when the car is in park. Sounds great with the speaker system.

The front lights auto level when car is heavily loaded.

I can select up to three distances I want to remain behind a car when using the adaptive cruise control.

I can program my garage door opener using the buttons on the mirror.

I guess they didn't think that upper compartment was important for the Premium package, so I have to live without it

Inside the glove compartment on the upper right side, there is a switch which locks your trunk from opening. For the longest time I thought there was something wrong with the sensors and my dealership replaced it when the problem occurred again. You see, I put my work gloves in my compartment and it was hitting the switch. Finally, after going in for a second time the mechanic decided to read the manual and to all our surprises it was a simple damn switch.

Never having ridden in the rear seat, I just discovered that not only are there rear seat HVAC vents behind the console, but also below the center posts, and most surprising of all, under each front seat. So 6 outlets for the rear seat passengers.

Surprised that my boney elbow leaves an indentation on the window sill when I rest my arm on it. Prolonged resting will leave a dimple, I suppose!

Nice, isn't it? I bought my Genesis for when my folks visit (my other cars are 2-door hatchbacks that are harder to crawl in/out of) and to have one new car for the 8 hour drive when I visit them... first time they visited and got a ride in the Genesis dad "got stuck with" the back seat and noticed how effective the rear A/C setup is with all those vents. Next time we had to go someplace... do we take their Azera (with me driving) or my Genesis? "Let's take the Rolls" dad said. And he went for the back seats. Nobody feels the need to call "shotgun" on the Genesis - the rear seats are definitely not a penalty box!

Another surprise: The turn signals have a lane change feature a la BMW (and maybe others I don't know about). If you just lightly press and quickly release the turn signal lever, not far enough to make it catch, the turn signal will blink 3 times and then go off.

To follow up on my own question, I tried doing this in a 2009. No dice.

I must conclude it's been added in the 2010.

(BTW, that feature is in some Cadillacs, too... and I think Audis. Probably MBs too.)

Very cool. Comfort blinkers were on my list of "it would have been nice if the 2009 had..." features.

Two things I found in the last week:

1. The gas cap fits in a holder on the back of the filler door. I've always just let it hang by the cap leash.

2. The 2009 had a big hint about the new 2010 features. If you shine a light on the instrument panel, center bottom, next to ESC and ESC OFF, there are lamps for AUTO HOLD and EPB.

Surprises good and bad.... Thanks for starting this thread.

Learned from thread:
1. Mirrors turn down if adjustment switch is left in left (both) or right (right only) position. Neat feature but on other cars there has always been a separate switch so you don't accidently adjust the mirrors.
2. USB will read and play songs from regular thumb drives (even without tech pack.) Very nice feature, but noticed its limited features. Doesn't seem to have a search...doesn't seem to show artist. Still...way cool.
3. Tilt out front door storage....nice.

Found on my own:
1. Rear trunk release. Thought there should be one...felt around for it till...bingo...trunk popped open.
2. Extensive features of bluetooth phone. In the past, I've had much lower featured bluetooth in cars...no phone book, for example. This is a very nice step up. It really is hands free...except for having to reach up and press the voice button/answer button.
3. Rear sun shade. Hadn't noticed that on options list. Wondered what the extra button was on door.
4. Radio/HVAC display off. I like being able to turn it off at night...one less distracting light.

BAD surprises:
1. It drives nasty on rough Michigan roads. Wow...kind of wish I had driven it on some rougher side streets before purchasing.
2. Really bright green led light indicator in instrument panel that does not dim with other gauges. I'd like to tear open the instrument cluster and cover that with tape.

Other disappointment...or realization...since I was suspicious at purchase:
3. Salesman told me the keyFOB charged when plugged into the car. I thought that was odd...because most people would never plug it into car. I was even a bit worried how often and for how long you'd have to do it to avoid draining the battery. Manual tells how to replace standard battery so he was wrong.

The guy who did our delivery briefing said the same thing, even indicating that it was better to insert the fob every time. Definitely not true.

I hate this as well. I plan on picking up a piece of tint scrap from a shop and putting it on the IP glass over the headlight and foglight lights so it is not so bright.

Is it safe to assume most cars have this?? Every car I've ever owned has had this, except my 1993 Taurus Wagon.
