  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What things don't you like in the G70?

For an objective comparison, Car and Driver measures interior sound levels.

65 dBA 70-MPH Cruising

Hey folks...sorry...but back to this topic.

Was on the highway again...and was really paying attention. The road noise is BRUTAL. I mean...really bad. Starting to freak out. I had to have the stereo volume up to about 15 for me not to hear anything outside...only radio. That is f'ing loud...on the stereo side.

All I hear is wind rushing past my left ear...driver window. Then the road noise. No way my A4 was like this. I could have the radio down low...and enjoy the music. If you have the radio on low in this car...all you hear is the outside.

Is my car f'd up? Did they forget to insulate my car? Of course...I have no dealer around here to go to. I could go to a Hyundai dealer...but they don't even know WTF a G70 is.

Can anyone else do a freeway/highway test? Drive the car about 65 MPH/100 KPH...and put the stereo on low.

One other thing. I am yet to use BT and talk on the phone on the highway. No way anyone could hear me. Need to test that out.

Wow yeah did not experience that on either test drive. Once was in the rain and I thought it was fine. Neither time I had the stereo up any measurable amount as I was chatting with the rep. Could be a seal issue, had that on one of the rear doors in the Stinger we test drove. Saleslady was surprised so I took it as an abberation.

If it's that bad I'd just check when your dealer is ramped up and schedule it to come in.

What is interesting is that the reviews seem to be on two ends of the spectrum for the road noise.

Some say it is very quiet such as AutoWeek: "I also suspect drivers will be delighted with the on-road noise levels: This is one quiet car. I don't have exact numbers, but a seat of the pants analysis suggests this car could have the quietest cabin in the class."

Other mention it being loud like you are experiencing like Jalopnik: "Because the G70 shaves a few hundred pounds off of its larger G80 brethren, it doesn’t ride as quietly on the highway. My driving partner and I both remarked on the loudness of the wind noise as air rushed over the car while we cruised on the highway."

I guess may it could be different engines/trims have different noise levels.

Doesn't sound right. I'm not an owner yet but just took the G70 out for a 4th test drive over the weekend. I could barely tell a difference between it and my TLX which is pretty quiet. I expected the G70 to be for sure louder then what I have now, but it's quite similar.

Perhaps difference between the 4 and 6 cyl? 4s are typically much noisier and a reason I still avoid them.

You would think that is the case but it seems the opposite here in the reviews and also experience. Both Beefer and Alaabaster have 3.3ts and have remarked at how loud the noise level is and not engine noise.

I don't hear the engine...other than the enhanced stuff. I am talking road noise (tires, etc) and wind noise (around the windows)...and I can also hear other cars tires, etc as I approach and pass them.

Oh...has she also complained about that? Missed that.

I just got off the phone with my salesguy. He did say the car is quite...but not as quiet as an Audi, BMW, MB. He is going to take a few G70's out...and see if he can replicate, etc. I told him exactly what I am hearing...blah blah.

If the car is really that loud...fine...I'll get used to it. I love the car. But...it would be one of the loudest in its class...not other way around.

Yes, when she did her review of the car after a few days she mentioned it.

- Cabin noise, it’s not a quiet car. I think the G80’s are much quieter. You can hear the road, and rain and stuff. But it’s ok, just turn up your tunes.

One other thing...and don't laugh. I've got brutally sensitive hearing. I mean...I hear everything. I once woke up in the middle of the night...our hamster escaped from his cage in our daughter's room...wandered into our room...near our bed. I actually heard him scrubbing along the carpet near my side of the bed. I woke up and f'ing screamed. My wife than proceeded to call me a pvssy.

Lol I have pretty sensitive hearing too and I agree that the car is noisier than my TL. But most of the noise I hear is tire noise.
There is wind noise but I set my music volume to 5 and it drowns out wind noise at 100kmh.
I suspect the door could do with more insulation. It's super light and swing out with almost no effort at all!

Don't think so. I have a 2019 Sorento SXL with the 3.3 Lambda engine and my 2.0T Theta have very similar noise levels at idle.
Anyway with enhanced engine sound, the engine sound is almost non-existent!

i don't have overly sensitive hearing, but the G70 is as quiet as i would have expected. certainly quieter than my wife's Highlander or my previous Infiniti. no glaring sound intrusion - wind, tires or otherwise. i suggest those with concerns try out another G70 or three to see if there is a flaw with their particular model.

as a reference, i usually have the stereo volume below 10 (~5-7) for most voice/dialogue stations (sports/comedy/etc). music is different depending on my mood, could be much louder if i'm feeling it. but at the normal single digit volume i have no problems hearing the output, and i have done some highway driving.

I find that the car is very quiet and should be in line with the competition.

I have a sound level meter and can test it at highway speed but now my Sottozeros are on and they are noisier than the PS4 tires.

Maybe you can find someone with a sound level meter and if not they are cheap to buy. This seems to be the only way for you to compare to other G70s since you don’t know any else close by to compare.

I like the sound meter idea, maybe to start just record with your phone? If it's that much of a racket you should be able to pick that up with the mic array, particularly if it's held by your ear by a passenger.

There are some free sound meter apps for phones. Won’t be perfect for comparison between cars but should give some idea of the level.

When I'm back from 'Winterpeg' I'll get a couple samples. I do have Michelin X-Ice 3 but thus far they have been pretty quiet on there.

Coming from the ATS, my G70 is certainly quieter.
