If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What tires did you replace the OEM with and how would you rate them?

I'm about due for a set of tires. I have a 2011 3.8 with 23K. When we bought the demo in MAR '12 with only 5K, they replaced two of the tires. At that time, I didn't quite understand why they had to replace any tires on a new car before the second oil change was due (now I understand). So the two tires that they didn't replace are pretty much slick now.

Reading through this thread, I did a rough tally of the number of members who bought the following tires. My results are:
1. Continental Extreme DW/DWS - 14
2. Bridgestone Turanza - 9
3. Michelin Sport A/S Plus - 9
4. Pirelli PZero - 7
5. Michelin Primacy MXV4 - 3
6. Good Year Eagle GT - 3

I'm in Southeastern VA where we don't get much snow or ice; if we do get any, it doesn't hang around long. With that in mind, I think I might go with the Continental DWs.

It's been 2 yrs and 4 mos since this thread began. Does anyone have any updated reviews on their tire purchases other than the ones already mentioned?

Bought the car with 27k miles on it. It had Goodyear Eagle GT's on it. Those have less than a season left on them and I bought new wheels (19's) and have 245/45/19 Goodyear Eagle RS-A2's sitting in my garage right now...along with 16 other tires, 8 wheels, and 8 more wheels on the way

I replaced OEM with Conti DW 245/20 front and 275/20 rear. Very impressed with dry and wet handling. I am prepared to replace them (rears more than fronts) at 15-20k miles based on reviews. I originally wanted Pilot Sports but not available in the size I needed. Have about 1800 miles on them. Love them so far.

I live in sunny southern California and even though it snows and rains here sometimes, in my driving experience there is no need to buy "weather or snow tires".

Before getting my Genesis sedan, I drove a 2009 3.3L V6 Limited Sonata. It had some Hankook Ventus V3's on it when I purchased it but I upgraded to the Hankook Ventus V12 evo's because I'm kind of an "agressive" driver. I felt the difference immediately; the car handled and drove like a dream. When my stock Potenza's on my Genesis Coupe started to look bare, I switched to the same tires; Hankook Ventus V12 evo's.

As you can see by my signature, I'm going to go with some 20" wheels and when I do, once again I'm going to go with the Hankook Ventus V12 evo's. To me these tires are like the Hyundai vehicles; they give you the best "bang" for your buck. They're relatively inexpensive, give you a good smooth ride with minimal road noise, have excellent traction & handling characteristics, and last about 40K miles. So once I "upgrade", let me know if you want to buy my stock wheels & tires! I think there's Michelin's on there now. :D

OK, I got my Conti DW 245/45 ZR 19's installed yesterday along with an alingment to bring everything back into spec. Car has a very slight pull to the right but that may be due to the steeringwheel not being centered. I'll take the car back and get that fixed.

As for the tires, they seem like they have more sideall that the Bridgestone SO4 pole positions I replaced. As for initial feel, I like them. After a quick scrub, I did hit a few curves with some speed and they seemed to grip just as good, if not better, than the bridgestones.

I'm taking a 1K mile trip this weekend and will see how they perform and do a write up when I return.

COS,
What does "more sidewall" refer to?

When I replaced my 17” stock wheels with 18X9.5 wheels I was in the market for new tires.

I had a hard time spending $1000 plus for tires so I did a little investigating and found these General tires. They came with a love them of replace them guarantee from General tire, so I figured what the heck.

I purchased these tires (General G- Max AS03 225/50ZR18) on line from http://www.discounttiredirect.com who guaranteed to beat any price. I paid $576 delivered to the door.

I purchased them in June of 2012, have about 8K miles on them and am very satisfied with them. They are excellent on wet and dry roads, run quiet and after 8K show no wear. General advertises that they are good in light snow also, but residing in Florida that isn’t one of my main concerns, but could be an added assist if I travel north in the winter for some reason.

Might be worth a look http://www.generaltire.com/tires/performance/g-max-as-03
Can you give a long term report on the General G-max -AS-03

They look as if the sidewall is larger, i.e. more side wall, than the bridgestones. They are both a 245/45 19 tire. When I looked them up on tire rack, they show the same specs so maybe I'm just seeing things.

COS,
Thanks, I thought you might be referring to stiffness. Sounds like; with exception of slight pull; not a big difference to your memory of the PO-4s when new?

You are not seeing things. I notice the same thing with mine (245/45/19) and even the DWS I had put on my Optima. Weird.

About the same. Even the PO4 had a slight pull to the right. But I guess I shouldn't really call it a pull, more like a drift when you let go of the wheel.

Scott, understand. I noticed it because it seemed like every time I looked at the PO4's, they seemed low but I would check the pressure and it was correct. Maybe I should get a good picture of them and post it. I also noticed yesterday thet they seem to fill the wheelwells a bit more and look good.

OK, I just put about 850 miles on the new Conti DW this weekend doing a long trip so heres my initial report on them.

Original tires = Bridgestone S04 Pole Position 245/45 19 lasted 18K miles
New tires = Continental Extreme Contact DW 245/45 ZR19

Purchased at Big Brand tires. Installed with 4 wheel alingemt done. Toe was out on all 4 tires. Road force balanced.

1. As I stated earlier, there looks to be a little more side wall on theses tires as compared to my Bridgestones that came on the car. They also seem to fill the wheel wells better. This seems a bit strange as they are the same size tire and have the same size specs according to trie rack.

2. Once scrubbed in, they seem to hold a little better during hard cornering. I haven't pushed them to the limit yet bit will soon. But when I did do a hard corner, the "nanny control" didn't kick in at all even though the back end kicked out just a bit. It would kick in a lot on this corner with the brigestones.

3. On my long trip, they seemed to be quieter on smooth roads than the Bridgestones were. But they also seemd to be just as noisey or maybe even a bit louder on rough surfaces.

4. On rough surfaces they seems as harsh as the bridgestones but handled better. I remember getting some steering wheel jerk with the bridgestones but not with the Conti's.

5. The bridgestones lasted about 17.5K miles of hard driving. Now if the conti's will last longer than that, I will be happy with them.

Just got 4 new Continental Extreme Contact DWS....a friend of mine sells tires wholesale and retail...does about 2 million a year in sales...this was his personal recommendation....also...tire rack rated these tires very very highly!!....VERY HAPPY WITH THEM!

Got a couple of thouand miles on the Conti DW and really like them. I found that my tire installer had aired them to 38 vice 33. But they still worked nice at 38. I've since lowered them to 33 and will see if they are any better.

I have finallt gotten to push the car some with the new tires and they do grip better in the corners than the SO4 Pole positions. The traction control nanny hasn't kicked in yet where it would have with the old tires. :)

Another vote for Conti DWS's. They are getting installed on my M56S this week; in a 245/40/20. The Bridgestone RE050's that came on the car OEM tramline horribly, and the DWS's seemed to be the best choice for a replacement. Some say that they do not corner quite as well (due to the sidewall not being as stiff), but I am willing to give up some of that ability for better ride quality and less noise.

I just installed Bridgestone Turenza Serenity plus last week. They are quiet and the ride is extremely smooth. I highly recommend them.

My OEM Dunlops are almost, but not quite done. I was looking at the Turanza Serenity Plus but at ~1300 I think I will pass and go for the Nexen CP672 for a lot less. I have no fear of Nexen tires like some here may have. I've had the N5000's on my Accord since 2010.
