  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What tires did you replace the OEM with and how would you rate them?

Bridgestone Serenity;very smooth and very good in rain. Conti DWS also smooth ride and good in rain. I live in Georgia so I prefer the Bridgestone which I use to run on my Acura. If I needed tires for winter weather then the Conti DWS would be my choice.

Bridgestone turanza serenity...for my 3.6...great ride...good in the wet...handling smooth for the way I drive...feel like a winner!

Re: Forgettable driving experience and Terrible Consumer Affairs and Delership experi

After almost decades of owning premium / luxury cars, I made the regrettable decision to buy a Hyundai. All my friends and family were skeptical. I have spent the past several months working with dealers and HMA Consumer Affairs to address the problems. Every time they tell me they DO NOT see the problems. Is anyone else having these problems? The whole experience has been extremely disappointing.

1. Rattling / grinding sound: This is mostly when driving at lower gears (0-40mph). The rattling becomes faint when the car is in cruise mode.

2. Jerky transmission: the car jumps a gear very often while accelerating and decelerating

3. Squeaking / cranking sound from the rear seat when driving over a rough / bumpy road. Sometimes the noise is so loud, I am worried something may fall off.

4. Loud rumbling noise when starting the car first thing in the morning

5. Vibrations while driving, this got progressively worse and I noticed the passenger seat shaking back and forth.

6. The horizontal defog elements on rear wind screen give a hazy view at night

7. Tires are wearing off and tread is low at only 30k miles.

8. The cabin lights flicker when switched ON or the door is opened.

Troll! What does this have to do with the question at hand. Start your own thread!

Anyone had any luck getting the dealer to replace the OEM Dunlops as part of the purchase? I've heard that they last as little as 15-20k miles, and I'd rather not have to replace them at about 18 months.

Rattling / grinding sound: This is mostly when driving at lower gears (0-40mph). The rattling becomes faint when the car is in cruise mode. Is it the rear suspension (#3) or transmission(#2)?

2. Jerky transmission: the car jumps a gear very often while accelerating and decelerating- First I have heard.

3. Squeaking / cranking sound from the rear seat when driving over a rough / bumpy road. Sometimes the noise is so loud, I am worried something may fall off. Rear suspension lube? Should be EZ to duplicate.

4. Loud rumbling noise when starting the car first thing in the morning- "loud" not normal- a 5 second rumble/gurgle is.

5. Vibrations while driving, this got progressively worse and I noticed the passenger seat shaking back and forth.- Alignment, tire balance, slipped belts in tire(s)

6. The horizontal defog elements on rear wind screen give a hazy view at night- Did you clean the rear window correctly- effectively?

7. Tires are wearing off and tread is low at only 30k miles. This is normal for sticky, OEM tires. See also notes #5

8. The cabin lights flicker when switched ON or the door is opened. Yes- have this issue sometimes- reset the overhead console light switch or have switch replaced under warranty

I am working on this now, will let ou know as soon as I find out.

Tirerack is your friend: Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M

Internet price for the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 is $152.00
Internet price for the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity is $202.00

This looks like a $200.00 upgrade to me.
If the dealer I am dealing with wants to sell cars they will agree!

I spoke to the sales manager this morning regarding the changing of tires before delivery of my 2011 Genesis. Although he has not responded in writing yet he said there will be no problem with the swap. I offered $200.00 for the upgrade because I already haggled for price.

Purchased my 2011 3.8 in Oct of this year. Had a vibration at 70 MPH and took the car back to the dealer with 300 miles on it. The dealer road forced balanced the tires. The vibration still existed. However it was at the 60 MPH range. Took the car into my local Firestone shop and paid them $60 out of pocket for another road forced balance. Three of the tires were slightly out of balance. The drivers rear tire had a run out factor of .36 and was deemed defective. Went back to the dealer with this information. They replaced the tire under warranty (still working on getting reimbursed for the $60 I was out). The problem still existed. Tired of the situation, I decided to punt on the Dunlops. On 11/13 replaced them with Bridgeston Turanzas with Serenity. What a huge difference. Much quieter ride and no vibration what so ever. Being a former Acura TL owner, I cannot believe the Hyundai would put such inferior tires on their "flagship" car. The ride difference between these two tires is incredible. I will be writting Hyundai corporate to provide them with my two cents on a poor decision they made.

Interestingly, I know of at least one dealer who is yanking the Dunlops off the Genesis on a pre-sale basis (I wonder what they do with the discards?) because the dealership deems the Dunlops to be unworthy. Gotta love that kind of forward-thinking to avoid unhappy customers!

I bought the same time tires for my 4.6. I hear a sort of humming sound at around 60mph. I had the tires load balanced and was told that the tires were a little out of balance, but there was no run out problems. Are these tires supposed to make a little noise because of their W rating? I guess that maybe my expectations were a little High.

Please keep in mind that the Dunlop SP 5000M is a high performance tire and because of that the tire is only good for about 20,000-25,000 miles. It all depends on how you drive as to the milage and wear you will get out of the tire.
The Bridgestone Turanza Serenity is a Grand Touring tire it is not designed for performance so you will get a quiter and smoother ride. You can look to get about 40,000 miles out of this tire. This tire also gives better traction in snow and rain than the Dunlop but again this is a Grand Touring Tire.
The Continental Contact Extreme DWS ( dry,wet & snow) is a performance tire but the design of the tire leans a little to the Grand Touring tire in that you get a quiter and smoother ride with very little road noise. Once again depending on how you drive you could get 40,000 miles out of this tire. This tire is rated high for it's traction in rain and snow. As I have this tire on my car I can say it does do well in the rain but I have not had the opportunity to drive in snow but I suspect I will very soon and I do not believe this tire will disappoint me.
The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus is an Ultra Performance Tire which by design will give you a better ride than the Dunlops. It also does well in rain and snow. The down side to this tire is it is a Directional tire with it's directional thread design the tire can only be rotated one way, front to back.
Now some of you will think I am off my rocker but if performance was all I was looking for the Dunlop SP 5000M would be my tire of choice.
IMO Hyundai went a little overboard with the sport set up on the Genesis.Replacing the Dunlops will help but how much is an individual thing.

I think you've summarized it well. Without doing a statistically valid poll, we can't tell how many Genesis owners are unhappy with the Dunlops. But I wish that Hyundai offered buyers a choice in tires and suspension setup. Personally, I'd go for the smoother, quieter ride. If I get the Genesis, I'm going to get the dealer to swap the tires as part of the purchase.

I looks like the Conti and Bridgestone are the most recommended here. It may come down to what dealers stock in your area. Here in Athens, GA the Bridgestone is more available and I always want a good tire dealer who will service and stand behind what they sell, like no cost rotations and re-balance, no cost flat repairs(with road hazard warranty) and free/prorated tire replacement if a tire cannot be repaired.

I still have the original Dunlaps at 19k. Here in dry, sunny AZ they perform well imo. If I wanted anything more from them it would be that they be just a little stickier.

The Continentals seem to be a great tire. Also, I put on Sumitomo HTR ZRIII's (summer tire) and they are fantastic. Much more grip then the Duncraps and a better, quieter ride (Y rated). They are high rated on Tirerack, and now I swear by them, and they are not expensive. This would only apply to anyone who would run a 2nd set of tires for winter or like myself, store the car in the winter.

...considered the Sumi HTZ, Conti DWS & Mich Pilot Sport. But ended up replacin' my 'flops @ 25k with the Pirelli PNero Zero based on reviews, tread wear, looks & price.

Glad I did. Night & Day difference. A lot less road noise and ride is mucho better'o. So drop the dime and getcha sum new skins.

Put Michelin Primacy's from Tire Rack on my 3.8 beore I drove it off the lot. Got them Road Force balanced by the dealer for free as part of the deal. The OEM Dunlops are on Ebay now.

The Michelin's have transformed the ride and tire noise. 60k warranty and $70 rebate.

aparrently the Conti DWS' are on backorder in the entire Charlotte region until January - very popular tire.

I'd like to switch right off the bat, but I'll probably put 10k on the 'craps and then switch.

Replaced the Dunlops with Continental Extreme Contact DWSs. Only had them a few weeks but so far, they perform MUCH better in the snow. Will have to see the difference on dry pavement next Spring.
