What tires did you replace the OEM with and how would you rate them?

Yesterday I replaced my OEM Dunlops with only 8900 miles on them for Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires in anticipation of another rough winter in Chicago. Don't know yet if they will live up to their reputation in the snow, but I can say this: they exceeded my expectations on Chicago's rough roads!

I expected some marginal improvement in ride quality, but this is really significant. The ride is much smoother on bumpy roads, at least 30% better, maybe more.

My wife was also pleased: she said the ride was "much less bouncy jouncey." She couldn't quantify how much the ride had improved, but that she had gone from "hating the ride" to "liking the ride."

So now I only have one problem: what do I do with my OEM tires with only 8900 miles on them? Anyone in the north suburbs of Chicago want a good deal on some Dunlops?

As Mark 888 did, I also replaced the Dunlops on my 2011 3.8 Genesis with Michelin Primacy MXV4s. Like Mark I also have 17" inch wheels. I replaced the Dunlops at 30,000 miles.

In short, dumping those Dunlops was worth it - it's like driving another car since the switch. Outside of some minor handling advantages, I fail to understand wny Hyundai would have selected the Dunlops and then stuck with them for several model years despite customer complaints. For something as simple as just switching brands, one has to wonder why Hyundai was so wedded to importing Japanese-made tires, when it had access to (presumably) cheaper tires from Kumho and Hankook .

Goodyear owns most of Dunlop and the tires may be manufactured at various plants around the world. I agree, and if under contract with Dunlop(Goodyear) then why not switch ( Hyundai) to a higher quality Goodyear tire. Here is a section from the 2010 Goodyear Annual Report

18" Bridgestone Blizzak LM60's for the winter and 20" Pirelli Pzero for the summer. I found AMAZING deals for both! Brand new, never used on Kijiji! Paid about 30% of MSRP!

Anyone had any luck getting the dealer to replace the OEM Dunlops as part of the purchase? I've heard that they last as little as 15-20k miles, and I'd rather not have to replace them at about 18 months.

I had Tirerack drop ship Contis to the dealer at my expense. He handled tire mounting and balancing and gave me a $200 credit on the sale. May not be much of a deal but I was happy to dodge the Dunlop bullet!

Just had Continental DW's put on yesterday. Went a little wider, now a 245 45 19. They are the quietiest tire If had so far, and they offer a very comfortable ride too. Tons of grip!

Scott, you'll be changing them next year...I now have 12KM or 7500miles on my DW's and they are finished/worn out!

I was impressed with them at first and I'll never buy them again just because they worn out so dam fast.
They've become major noisy too...

I can't believe they're finished already! I do almost 75% highway.
I called Tirerack and they told me that I am well within the range.
She said anywhere between 5,000 and 15,000 miles.

I just ordered the Yokohama Avid Envigor.

Good luck with yours and I hope they last alot longer than mine did.

I called Tirerack and they told me that I am well within the range.

I believe member Wallymn got a decent amount of miles on his DW's, but I don't remember the amount. I'll try them, but won't buy them again if I can't get enough miles out of them. Not for $1,140. I'd probably go back to the Sumitomo HTRZ III's if I don't like these tires in the long run. They are inexpensive and handle very well, but only last probably 20,000 miles, but for only $715 installed (18 inch wheel prior to R Spec wheels) it's well worth it. I'd also research the Bridgestone Pole dancer's that TJParks has mentioned that he really likes. No matter what, I'd stay with the summer tires and skip th A/S tires such as the Avid Envigor's, although Yokohama makes great tires.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus for my 2012 4.6. $235 minus $144 apiece oem warranty credit for premature wear(26k) from the Michelin Energy oem, sweet deal. No ride compromise for me and they are ridiculously sticky compared to the old.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus on a 2009 4.6 and they ride fine but seem to be very noisy? They have a lot of tread left (maybe 5K miles on them?). Any idea if this is normal? Is the noise just caused by the V shaped tread pattern?

Interesting that they only lasted you 7500 miles, my DWS's now have almost 17,000 miles on them and they are at 8/32nd's all the way around. They are 235/50ZR18's, I rotate/balance and align them as required and they have been the best set of tires I've owned overall. I drive about 55% HWY miles and the rest is in very harsh stop and go traffic.

A little background. I have the 4.6 which came with the Dunlaps. Still had a decent amount of tread at 35K miles (don't understand why these tires didn't last for others) but felt it was as good as time as any to replace them.

Because of the reviews on this site I went with the Continental ExtremeContact DWS from Discount tire ($198). Drove the car out of the shop and it was drifting (not pulling) to the right. (The problem did NOT exist with the Dunlaps). Drove it right back into the shop and they rotated two of the tires. No difference. Then they swapped one of the tires for a new one. No difference. Did a 4-wheel alignment. No difference. Then they swapped a second tire. No difference.

So we swapped the Continentals for a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus tires. MAGIC... the problem went away, no more drifting.

I only put about 150 miles on the Conti's so I can't comment too much on them. They seemed quiet but the ride was a little "harsher" then the Dunlaps.

I know have about 3000 miles on the Michelins. (2000 mile trip) And I'm very happy with them. They are quieter then the Dunlaps and have a smoother ride. I haven't done any hard driving with them but day to day handling is definitely better then the Dunlaps!

They list at Discount Tire for $222. I have nothing but good things to say about Discount Tire. They tried everything they could to solve the problem, and bent over backwards to satisfy their customer. And for $222 the price was cheaper then Tire Rack after taking into account shipping, mounting, balancing, etc.

Consumer reports favors them highly. Looking for some feedback from our crowd on our vehicles.

I have the Zeon RS3-a tires on my Mercedes E500. Handling is very good and wet grip is like velcro. Noise is moderate and ride is somewhat firm but works great with the E500 airmatic suspension. I have the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus on my Genesis, super smooth ride, very quiet, and handles well. The Cooper is getting good reviews and after about 1000 miles I give them an A-, I give the Bridgestone (20k miles) an A. Also check out the Continental DWS tires.

I went to Discount Tire today and priced out the Bridgestones and the Conti's and the difference in price is very close. I think I'll stick with these two choices. DT also told me that they would give me 30 days to try my new set of tires out. If I didn't like them before the 30 day trial period, bring them back and we'll exchange them for another brand. I'd only have to pay the difference in price if the price of the next set of tires more.

Now to decide which brand I want.

When I replaced my 17” stock wheels with 18X9.5 wheels I was in the market for new tires.

I had a hard time spending $1000 plus for tires so I did a little investigating and found these General tires. They came with a love them of replace them guarantee from General tire, so I figured what the heck.

I purchased them in June of 2012, have about 8K miles on them and am very satisfied with them. They are excellent on wet and dry roads, run quiet and after 8K show no wear. General advertises that they are good in light snow also, but residing in Florida that isn’t one of my main concerns, but could be an added assist if I travel north in the winter for some reason.
