  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What vehicle(s) did you consider before deciding on the Genesis?

(Currently driving Infiniti M45)

Audi A5 felt underpowere and expensive for the features

Audi A4 Too small

Acura RL Liked it; This is the next best to Genesis in value, in my opinion.

Acura TL (09) Liked it, although front wheel drive for now. Did not like the external shape.

Jaguar XF Liked it a lot and a better ride than Genesis IMHO

Lexus IS350 Small car, but rode well

Lexus ES350 Very floaty ride, did not like.

My lease is up in November and I am pretty much decided on Genesis. Although I might compare lease pricing with Acura RL and Jaguar XF also before I bite the bullet.

My 2007 TL comes off lease next year.

Only two cars I'm considering are the Genesis and the Maxima.

- Maxima is far more fun to drive than the Genesis.
- Maxima has smaller interior, but a fold-down rear seat.
- Maxima (equipped the way I'd want) is about $3 to $4K cheaper than the Genesis.

Still, the Genesis appears to be the better value for what you get. I like fun to drive cars, but most of my miles are in a heavy commute and I need the "isolation chamber" more than I need fun. If I can swing the payments I'll get the Genesis.

I think the Maxima is a great car, but it's not built to the same standard as the Genesis IMO. Nearly everything about it feels a tad bit cheaper than the Genesis. From the sound the doors make when they close, to the feel of the sheetmetal if you "knock" on the panels, to the interior plastics. I do absolutely love the seats in the Maxima though. Very supportive and comfortable.

I think if you upgraded to better tires the Genesis would also outhandle the Maxima, especially since the Gen is RWD.

I compared to:

G35
M35
TL
A6
335
passat

and it beat them all on value. Decision was down to G35x 2008 model without Nav for $55 per month less. Other than AWD, the g35 was not in the Genesis category.

We were considering the following:

Acura RL
BMW 5-series
BMW 7-series
Lexus LS460
Mercedes E-class
Mercedes S-class (this is my least favorite car out of the bunch).

I know these cars are far outside of the Genesis pricing range, and truthfully, we didn't want to pay the price of the larger sized sedan. We wanted the extra space in the back seat but something more reasonable with regards to price. The reason we never went through with the Lexus purchase was the distance to take the car for service (2 hours to the closest dealership).

I believe we got EVERYTHING we wanted with the Genesis: large size, great amenities and performance, entry-level pricing.

I was looking at getting another 2008 Cadillac DTS or upgrading to a 2007 Mercedes S550 or Lexus LS460L wound up picking up the 6 cyl Black Pearl Gen cuz I didn't want to wait until the 8 cyl became available.

Purchased a pearl white 3.8 Tech pack. Before doing this I test drove the:

Cadillac CTS
Infinity M
BMW 3 and 5 series
New Maxima
Acura RL and TL
Mercedes Benz CTS
Lexus GS

All things considered, none of these cars overwhelmed the Genesis. In fact, price and amenities considered the Genesis came out way ahead. Quality also was a determining factor. Recently Hyundai placed second in reliability, (tied with Honda, Toyota placed first. Where was BMW and MB?). Resale wise, on the Acura comparative website it shows that the Genesis will have a higher residual value after three years than the 09 RL.

Throw in the surprised looks I get when letting people know that it is a Hyundai, priceless.

Actually I was looking for a small fun car...

Honda S-2000, man I loved that high RPM
Mazda Miata - hard top convertable was nice

Then BMW 1 & 3 series.

But somehow I ended up with Genesis V8.

Shucks, I still don't understand how this happened

maybe we should all buy a tricked out used YUGO...

i heard you can get great deals on these- just gonna be hard to find an authorized YUGO dealer to do periodic service

+1 almost word for word... down to BMW 550i (GREAT deal if still available) or 4.6 sedan vs 3.6 Coupe... no V-8 Genesis sedans around here to test-drive currently...
