If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What was your FIRST impression when you saw Genesis sedan the FIRST time on the road?

3 Months ago, I was driving back on my Cadillac going back home from work.
I saw black car cruising past and realized it was quite large sized sedan. It also seemed to have luxurious style and thought "Wait, I think I know what that is:rolleyes:". I drove right behind to check the badge but just saw KDM wing badge, nothing that I have ever seen before. In split second in my mind was "Wait a minute, Am I seeing a ****ing bentley in this shitty town? WTF!". Then when I drove past along the sleek body I saw the emblem on the steering wheel showing slanted H....

I had to check out hyundai website afterwards that night.;)

May sound strange... never saw one on the road before buying ours. Internet research, road tests, comparisons and awards convinced me I was on the right track.

The first time seeing a Genesis on the road... that sexy, hungry grille was following me (my Wife)... saw her Genesis thru my center rear-view window.

Quite breathtaking.

I researched for a while, and pulled the trigger. I had liked the fact that I had never seen one on the road. The morning I left my house to drive to the stealership to pick up my Genny, as I pulled out of my driveway, one went by my house.
I have had mine for a month now and I have only seen about 6. I saw a black one in Newport RI this past weekend with a Winged Trunk and the Genesis shaved off w/ just the 4.6 (same as mine)
I like driving an uncommon car.

I saw the ads and test roads before I saw any Genesis. I also went to my local dealer on Sunday when he is closed and checked the car out. I shopped for months and always went back to the Genesis. Finally I went into the dealership and made the deal. The day I drove it into my garage, my neighbor informed me he had looked at buying the same model I purchased. Unfortunately his wife wanted a Buick Enclave so that is what is in his carport. I've never regretted my decision to buy Hyundai.

there used to be one at my work place, everytime the car passed by, I have to turn the head a look. I've been wanting the Genesis for ages. We finally saw one and went in for the test drive and couldn't stop looking. 3 months later we ended up buying that exact car that we test drove. And I believe that it was the exact same one at my work place since I haven't seen that car for the last 8 months.

First time I saw one on the road I did a double take because it was handsome and the grill was Mercedes-esque but definitely not a Merc. I looked at it from a few different angles and loved what I saw and was surprised when I realized it was a Hyundai.

It doesn't have a unique style but it's a great looking car. The only part of the exterior I'm not thrilled with are the wheels.

This is slightly off topic but in the spirit of the OP.
I am a raving Genny lunatic, my wife is still laughing at the fact that her "Label-Conscious" Hubby drives a Hyundai. While she does see the value/content relationship, she indeed likes the car but takes shots any chance she gets.
Recently I have been commenting about how luxury-marque drivers (mostly MB & BMW) speed up or follow close to me to see what kind of car it is. She dismissed it as being all in my head, until this week, we were driving to the beach and she noticed several motorists of brand-distinction doing the raised-eyebrow-drive-by. But the end of the week it had become a game. She even picked out a white Genny in the parking lot of a restaurant. She also noted that the Winged Trunk badge makes the car look more upscale, and to shave off the Genesis but leave the 4.6 adds to the mystery, she also noted that she is surprised by how few Genesis seem to be on the road, and that it is a well guarded secret.

Just thought I'd share...

I was driving in a more "worrisome" part of town when this huge black sedan (I think it was a Charger) pulled up on my right side at a red light. The scary gangster looking kid turned down his thumping music and motioned for me to roll down my window. I probably accidentally cut him off back there some how, I thought. I am too old for this, I groaned to myself as I rolled down the window. It turned out, the kid was really polite. "sir, what kind of car is that?" "It's a Genesis," I said. The kid looks puzzled and then he nodded his head and said, "Ah, a Genesis" as if he knew what he was talking about. He drove away still looking puzzled. I was laughing so hard... I only saw two other Genesis so far in my area. I also have a rear wing, "genesis" shaved off, 4.6 intact.

The first time I saw one was on the show 24. I fell in love, but it took me 3 years to get one. I love it!!

I read about Hyundai's resurgence with the Genesis in a few auto magazines. I was in the market for a car and when I found a local dealership had a used on in stock I had to check it out. It ended up being my purchase. I didn't notice any on the road before I bought it.

Which reminds me of when I watched "Inception" the first time. I didnt know it was a Hyundai til later.

I walked past lots of Genesi at the dealer's when I had my Azera in for service, and never gave them a second look. Then I started reading about the Genesis and took one for a drive and was hooked immediately. It converted me from a car agnostic to a Genesis guy immediately.

i had seen an online ad about genesis, but had never seen one on the road. Still, did not have any interest! went to look at a toyota, and the Hyundai dealership was next door. in-person, the car is so much more impressive than on the web (that could be said about most cars I guess). I have had the car for 3 months now, just saw my first Genesis this am, driving back from vacation up in the adirondacks.

September 2008. Very first Genny V6s on the lots in Canada (no 8s yet).

I was cross-shopping Accord, Camry, Mazda 6, Camry, and Sonata.

I had read about the Genny, was impressed, loved the look, but thought it would be too expensive.

Had narrowed choice down to Mazda6 (high) vs Sonata (low).

Went to Hyundai for final test drive of Sonata and decision. Saleswoman talked me into test driving the G. Love at first sight.

After test drive, she quoted me a price (MSRP at that time - no discounting was happening in Canada since it was so new and well reviewed). That price was about 4k more than a Camry/Accord/Mazda6 with leather, moonroof, etc. I thought the Genny was about 15k more car. Hyundai financing made it even closer.

Not a fair fight.

October 1 I took delivery of what I suspect was one of the first Gennys to roll off the lot in Canada, at least in Toronto.

Still get the odd curious look or question 3 years later, but the first year was unbelievable how many folks had to ask about it, or wanted to talk about it if they new what it was.

Funny thing is, everyone seemed to think it looked like whatever they liked best - Lexus owners said it looked like an LS, BMW snobs thought 7-series, MB drivers thought S, kids thought Aston or Bentley, NASCAR dudes thought Chrysler 300.

I think it is the right blend of handsome and reserved. Confident without being outrageous.

No regrets.

Had been reading about the Genesis since last summer, and was thinking I'd get one for myself. Once I start thinking of getting a Genesis, I started counting the number of times I saw the car around where I live, and in a 10-month period I saw the car a total of 22 times (live in the DC metro area). Around here, you could close your eyes, swing a dead cat and hit like several dozen 5-series Bimmers or E-class Mercedes no problem, those cars are all over the place! One of the reasons I love my Genesis: Just do not see that many on the road, and I love it when folks drive up on my just trying to figure out what kind of car it is.

Now I just need to shave off the "Genesis" off the back...

I loved the looks once I got past the grill. After seeing it at first I thought it was busy, now I think its elegant. I think the overall design is very well engineered from the positive cues in the industry for its time.

For all that, expect the next Genesis to look much different, more in line with the new design direction Hyundai is following.

i thought they were an S500 clone, sat in first one my dealer had in '08 and thought low rent S class. Having said that, a low rent S class is still a hell of a nice car lol..

First time i saw one with the wings, i though it was a bentley until i studied it on the road i was convinced i just saw a new style bentley that looked alot like a Hyundai genesis!

just a great looking car with not a reason in the world to display the flying "H" to just knock it down a few pegs (imo, sorry to offend anyone, but that's how i feel).

i test drove the sonata turbo and thought it was a nice small car (the last generation sonata feels twice as large inside and the trunk opening is a joke) but it did nothing to move me in any way. i feel like they got too ahead of themselves in the redesign, should've made it as roomy as the last one.. While i was there i saw the genesis' sitting on the lot and thought maybe? a few months later when gas went through the roof and an impending round trip to florida was a couple weeks away i pulled the trigger only a couple days after reading some of the threads on "problems" and saw a solid percentage of owners are happy and only real complaints showing up over and over was the ride and after test driving a few i saw that was not an issue for me. Great Car!!

I first saw one on freeway, and spend several minutes guessing what it was. It seemed upscale and expensive, and also pretty fast.

This time I was shopping for the next car and came to test Sonata as well (sic)
I wasn't impressed with it, plus my wife hated it.
So we noticed Genesis on the lot, I've sat in one and made mistake of test-driving it (3.8) :) I was hooked after that, and eventually got 4.6 and very happy with it so far. In person it looks much better, I love white pearl + saddle interior. Several days ago walked out of restaurant and there was another white 4.6 Genny next to mine, with tan interior :) The license plate number was just couple numbers next after mine

i couldn't agree more. pictures do this car no justice at all..

I drooled....but I stopped that very quickly as I promptly realized I was drooling over MY car!! I bought the first one in 8/08 (a 2009 P+ V6 model) in our market area. I couldn't even stop for gas w/o someone asking me what it was!

My car was recently severely damaged in the hail storms we experienced in late April in East Tennessee. I've been waiting for either some undamaged new cars to come in (poss. options include a coupe...) or to fix mine--the dealer says they can't even get to me until after Christmas due to the overwhelming demand.

It's been a wonderful car, and I'm very proud to own one. It's my second Hyundai, and I'll replace it with my third.

Like others have said...it's fun driving an uncommon car!

Crepen really nailed a good description of it for me.... :D

I can't honestly recall if I saw one on the road beforehand or not; I did see a few parked and thought it was a sharp car.

I first keyed in on the Genesis as a potential purchase at the Houston auto show in February 2011; I didn't pull the trigger until May and had narrowed my search down to numerous different cars. When I drove the Genesis, though, I think I was sold. My wife too.

I just got back from San Diego and saw only one out there and, much like Houston, an assload of Lexus, MB, Infiniti, et al.... So I'll reiterate my shtick about really liking the thought I'm driving something that isn't all over the place.

But my FIRST impression, truth be told, was that it was a Hyundai and I kind of discounted it at first blush. Glad I came back to it.
