If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What's new for 2010 Genesis?

?suspension, gps, and few other things?

My guess is that it will be exactly the same. The 2011 sedan will be probably address some of concerns on these posts.

I thought I remembered hearing about some suspension changes - or did that happen midway through the 2009 model year?

You heard about a lot of complaining, and some people theorizing about differences in manufacture date and suspension. The company hasn't formally done anything, there aren't any TSB's about it and no one can prove the later 09's are any different.

My Genesis (Cdn) was manufactured on May9, 2009. I personally didn't find the ride unacceptable. Not sure anything was changed since it was launched.

However, I do have a slight problem with my ride. At the start of the day when driving at round 40km/h I can feel and hear some funny waddling at the rear wheels for a few seconds. However the waddle goes away as the tires warm up. I called my service manager he said to wait until the car breaks in at 1000Km to see if the problem persists. I am going to see how this works out after 1000Km. The symtom is almost exactly like flat spotting tires but it is impossible for my genie because it was so recently manufactured and I am pretty much driving it every day. Not sure what is causing it.

Actually, that's probably exactly what it is. It's not impossible at all if the vehicle has sat overnight. Some tires seem to be more sensitive to this particular problem. I remember a bunch of 4th-gen Acura TL owners were complaining about this even if the car has only sat for 8-10 hours. Most had stated that the tires were the culprit and once they switched to another, higher-rated tire they didn't notice it nearly as much, if at all. Flat spotting is especially common on heavier cars w/ lower profile tires.

it is tire flattening....

I have the same problem, worse in the winter. This is a result of materials Dunlop has used.

I still can't seem to believe there will be drastic changes to a car that just enjoyed its first full year on the shores of North America. Even a change to the much talked about suspension is probably not in the cards. Usually the only changes you get for the first couple years are exterior color changes, new wheels, or maybe different tires. Nothing that takes development or huge committment from R&D. Maybe in 2013/14 will we see the major changes? By then we all will be buying, or have bought the Equus! Of course I have no real clue. Just pure guesstimation at this point!

I posted this several months ago:

1. Suspension change - probably minor tuning, but with noticeable improvement on problem roads (no change on smooth roads).

2. New Tech options:
- smart cruise control (active braking)
- lane departure warning system system

Might be others that I was not told about, or that were decided later.

I agree with the comments above. Most people don't realize how long it takes to make changes to a production automobile before they appear on the showroom floor. The car has barely been out long enough to have gotten feedback into the system, decisions taken, and changes flowed through to production, much less the kind of cumulative feedback we have now that there is a user base.

My guess (totally uninformed, mind you) is that they will make some minor reprogramming changes to the suspension (maybe even change the spring rates slightly, but I doubt it), and add the adaptive cruise. I'm hoping that some minor software upgrades have been made to the infotainment system.

All of these things will be in the nature of easily-updated software (or minor hardware) changes.

The only other real 'miss' in the car that I see is the lack of cooling on the front passenger seat, but that would actually require a fairly substantial hardware modification to add. It also may be missing not because of cost, but because there are some limits such as electrical or a/c capacity or similar. I don't expect to see this change for awhile.

It is known that Hyundai is developing an eight-speed automatic transmission for this application, and is developing direct fuel injection for the Equus line, which they would obviously want to migrate through the range. There is no pressure to get the DI out, though, as they aren't desperate for the fuel mileage benefits (since the Genesis' impact on the fleet is small, anyway), and the cars are more than adequately powered already. So, I suspect we'll see the new tranny in '11, and DI in '12.

Does anyone know when we'll see a '10 sedan, yet? My dealer has promised to keep me informed...

i would imagine a cooled passenger seat and a rear entertainment option...possibly smart cruise but not much on anything else

All this is sort of frustrating for me since there isn't a consensus. I'm not blaming anyone. It just sort of is what it is.

I do admit I will be upset if the 2010's come out and they haven't done any improvements to the suspension. It just seems to me there has been plenty of feedback in this area over the course of a year to make at least some minor adjustments. In my case I've just about committed to buying this car but have been waiting and waiting on the 2010's for this very reason. I hope I don't regret it.

At the very least if they don't make suspension improvements I certainly hope they make some kind of change over the 2009 model. Adaptive cruise would be great. I would really hope for a fully opening trunk when opened with the key fob but people have told me I'm asking too much here (still not sure why). Any improvement to the A/C would be good. I even like the idea of a rear entertainment option. I could go on and on I guess.

The automatic trunk is a possibility but it won't be a zero-cost option. For one thing, the price of the Genesis creeped up higher than Hyundai initially targeted. Second, they've cut corners in various places (no trunk cover on the 3.8, only LED cabin bulbs in the ceiling/map lights). Third, it's a standard feature on the Equus, and the more things they make standard on the Genesis will tend to weaken the appeal of the upcoming flagship.

The infrastructure for the trunk opener is there, just not implemented. Same thing for the rear seat system. Essentially the same Lexicon system is used in the Equus and it has a rear monitor. The service docs for the Genesis have references to rear monitor outputs and fuses. So that is probably relatively easy to add as a separate option in future years.

Regarding the passenger cooled seat - it's already available in the South Korea version. It should be a very easy update to make happen. Regarding direct injection - that should first appear in the Equus for more power in the heavier vehicle - and then trickle down to lesser vehicles slowly...

The information I posted is not based on speculation, but is based on information told to me by someone who actually knows. However, it was several months ago, and may not be a complete list. Also, if you want some of those things, you may have to get the Tech Option.

I understand. I think I would be willing to pay for it as long as it was reasonable. I loved this option on a Mercedes I used to have.

No worries. I'm committed to the Technology Package :D I just hope it becomes a reality.

Take it for what it's worth, but a friend of mine who works for Autotrader just told me that the only confirmed changes on the 2010 (at least in the U.S., not sure about Canada) are the additions of an electronic parking brake and adaptive cruise control. I trust this guy, he's active on several forums and knows lots of people in the industry. This info. came to him from someone at Motor Trend so expect to see it on their website soon.

I'm a bit bummed about the lack of 8-speed auto and cooled passenger seat, but you can't have it all. :)

Good news if true for current owners, Not a lot of "I wish I waited" content.

I don't understand how the lack of Hyundai 8-speed in 2010 can be any surprise. All the credible reports that I have seen have stated that it will be available in 2011 at the earliest, and maybe in 2012. No one even slightly knowledgeable about the 2010 Genesis ever suggested that the 8-speed would be available for the 2010 model year. If any one told you that, you should cross them off your "reliable" list.

On the plus side, a proven ZF 6-speed might be better than a brand new Hyundai 8-speed tranny, especially since auto tranny's are one of the most complicated pieces of equipment on a vehicle, and difficult to repair (especially if there are design flaws).

In addition to adaptive (active) cruise control, I heard that lane change warning system will be available with Tech Package. But I heard that about 4 months ago, so not sure if that is still accurate.
