  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Now I've had my Genesis 2015 for about 10 months, bought in the states but now being driven in its home country of Korea. I've gone a little over 5,000 miles with it.

Not knowing the recommended timing for its first oil change, I went to the local dealership and was told that it's at its first anniversary.

Is that correct recommendation? With my other new cars, I think I had the first oil change in about six months.

The answers to this and other important items are in the 500 page manual - worth keeping for reference.

Page 392 describes the normal maintenance schedule:

• Replace engine oil and filter
(7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months)

As for the first change, I usually change my oil the first time at 1000 miles and afterwards I follow the owner's manual schedule for extreme conditions because of the temperatures in Texas.

One interesting tidbit I was told by the service department of one dealer I visited (not sure how true this is) is that the Genesis comes equipped with synthetic from the factory. I know this doesn't necessarily affect the oil change frequency, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

3,750 if you live in a place with extreme weather conditions.

My long held, and possibly slightly neurotic, philosophy has always been to get the factory installed oil (aka break-in oil) out at 1500 miles then follow the manufacturer's recommendations from that point forward.
Essentially this mirrors Aquineas' point of view, especially since the two of us hail from the Great State of Texas.

Just curious, were you not the guy who was trying to convert the speedometer and the rest to metric? If so, did you succeed in doing so?

Yes, I was that other guy. :D

No, I was not successful. :( My suspicion is that Hyundai intentionally made it impossible to convert the system, so they can "compartmentalize" different markets. Parallel import is always a headache for manufacturers, you know.

Thanks for the confirmation!

So the dealer was correct after all.

That is quite a large number. For all the other cars that I've driven over the years, oil change was recommended more frequently, IIRC.
