  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

With the laws varying in different states, I'm sure I'll get a variety of replies.
In Texas one can get a concealed carry license (CCL) and tote a sidearm around almost anywhere (with a few exceptions).
Without a CCL, it is still lawful to carry in the car only (and to from said car to one's home - for transport)

Having said that, there could be a good place in the car, or one just decides to keep it on one's person.

Instead of finding a good spot in the cabin, I keep mine on my person - how about you?

Why would I want a gun?

My Glock 9MM is velcro-ed to the dash, my pump REM shotgun (shortened barrel of course) is in the passenger seat rear pocket and the AR-15 id ceiling mounted right behind the sunroof.
Extra clips handy in the door pockets. Oh, almost forgot- grenade in the cupholder for fast pitching!

I have owned a lot of guns over the years. I don't want to carry one in a urban setting. It may make me 'stay around' in situations that I am much better walking away from. Prison is only a few clicks away.

I have a SW AR in the trunk - with about 15 loaded mags :)

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I simply screwed this to my roof. Works very well in heavy traffic. :D

I have my gun in my hand...

I own a gun and have a licence but I try not to go places where a firearm might be needed. Even if you had to use one in self defense, you stand to loose everything, including your Genesis just to pay for a lawyer. In short, most of the time, I just leave my gun at home. But that's just me.

In SC, it's legal to carry a loaded gun in your center console or glove box, as long as it's out of sight. I have a concealed carry permit, but do not need it to carry in the car. There are relatively few carjackings in SC.

I rarely carry a firearm, either in the car or concealed as it's normally not worth the risk. However, I would definitely be armed in the case of a hurricane evacuation or other civil unrest.

I'm from Massachusetts and our laws are some of the strictest in the country but if you have your LTC (License To Carry) you can carry anywhere you want to other than federal buildings....

Anyway, I carry 24/7 no questions asked. I usually carry on my person when driving because the laws in MA read as; The firearm must be under the licensee direct control.

So it is really up to the officer/court/jury what is "direct control". If you ever had to defend yourself against the "authorities" you'd be SOL if the firearm was somewhere else other than on your person.

Transporting is a whole different subject though. In MA you have to store your gun/ammo in a locked "container". The trunk of a car that is lockable is OK, but a lockable glovebox is not. So if you're going to the range to shoot, I always put my range bag in the trunk. The firearm has to be unloaded. The ammo and the gun however can be in the same container.

For all the hemp necklace wearing, tree huggers on this forum; we carry guns because if I ever need to level the playing field on some asshat who wants to shoot up the Denny's I can. And you'll thank me for it when you're sitting next to me with your family devouring your "Grand Slam Breakfast"! We're not trying to be heroes, but smart responsible citizens.

In New York City if you leave a gun anywhere in a car you can be sure that when you come back not only will the gun be gone but the car will be gone too.

Here in South Florida I would worry about the same thing but it may not be a sure thing like NYC.

Is this conjecture? I haven't worried about my car being stolen at any point living here in NYC. I live in the Bronx, and commonly park in some of the "worst" areas, as well as visiting friends in Harlem, LES, East NY, Flatbush, Washington Heights, Inwood and any number of other "nicer" areas. I don't know what makes you think that NYC is OMG DANGEROUS! but it's a pretty uninformed viewpoint. If you leave a gun in your car, anywhere, it should be locked and out of sight. Otherwise, just take it with you.

Also, for the rest of the posters who are like OMG WHY U NEED A GUN? Get over yourselves. The op didn't ask for a lecture on the merits of CCW, he asked where people keep their gun. The sheer number of posts that bash him for wanting to carry a firearm are sickening. I'll be sure to bash you for wanting to exercise your freedom of religion or freedom of speech or freedom from governmental discrimination, since, you know, it's ok to heckle people for exercising constitutional rights.

I am not into manicures or things like that, but you nails are disgusting.

Think about what you're looking at in that picture for a moment.

I believe that's William Shatner's hand.

Not one person said anything remotely resembling what you're suggesting. In fact, most posts are saying 'I have a gun but don't keep it in my car'. The closest was the first post asking why he would want a gun - why HE (that poster and only that poster) would want a gun, not saying that the OP is a terrible person for having one.

Oh, right, I see. The guy with the glock velcroed to the dash, the shotgun behind the seat and the AR with 15 mags wasn't mocking the op. Neither was the guy with the phazer or the guy with the turret. Riiight.

I knew it was someone on Star Trek. My guess was Sulu, but I can't really tell.

I'm that guy, and you're right. As Freud said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. I was not suggesting or implying anything about the OP - I'm just saying that, apart from an Army enlistment, in nearly 70 years now I have never needed or seen any use for a gun. I'm talking about me, not you or anybody else.
