  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As I wait for delivery here in Canada, just had a sudden question...I don't know where the vehicle is coming from. I know my Infiniti had to come from Japan, but was wondering where the Genny Sedan comes from. Is it the factory in Ulsan, or is there a North American plant. I know there's a plant in Alabama, but I think that's only for Sonata & Santa Fe.

Yes, Ulsan.

Other details on the Genesis sedan's development/assembly:

On creating the Genesis, Hyundai got the idea for it five years ago; designing the body took three years; it cost $500 million to develop and included 23 months of development work; reliability testing ran for 800,000 miles.

The Tau engine took 100 engineers four years and $260 million to develop.

All workers in the paint, body, assembly, and quality departments of the Genesis factory have at least 19 years of experience.

Roof and side outer panels fused with a continuous laser weld, not spot welding.

Aluminum hood. Replaceable "crash box" structures to absorb low-speed impacts and reduce repair costs.

Iridium double-tipped spark plugs good for the life of the engine.

5-link suspension with aluminum knuckles, lateral arms, tension arms, and carriers front and rear.

Thanks for the answer and the extra info. Now that's the kind of real 'value-add' we all benefit from on this forum.

I hope you are wrong about the spark plugs.... They are scheduled to be replaced every 100,000 miles.... I hope my engine is expected to last longer...

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
It sucks that some things are stripped off...like the integrated front cam...different rear trunk lid...etc :(

The ride

Why does it feel so hard. You would think a car of this class would have a softer ride. I have a 2011 with all the bells and whistles, but a crummy ride. Would never buy it again.

Many of us here drove the car before buying and were not surprised with the ride when we got it home.

Owned a 2009 and now a 2012. The ride, the car is ALL excellent. Poor tires originally on 2009.
As nice and comfortable a vehicle as I have ever owned. ( and I've owned them all.....):D

i have the same car. suggest you change tires before writing it off completely. if you're still on the original dunlops you've got a pleasant surprise coming. plenty of threads in here about tire replacement...

If you think that's bad, try an early 2009 model :D The 2011's suspension was upgraded twice since 2009.

Best ride is in the 2012/2013 model year.

I agree the 2012+ ride is very good, but handling wise, and I mean this constructively, man Hyundai could learn a thing or two from Ford. My wife's 2013 Fusion feels nailed down in comparison.

I have a 2010 4.6 and the ride is very good. However, I recently drove a 2012 and there is quite a bit of difference infavor of the 2012. Much tighter and more "grounded to the ground" (haha).

I agree. I had a 2009 and now 2013 both 3.8. The original tires on the 2009, Dunlap if I recall, were bad and lasted only 25K. I put Pirellis on and got twice that before I sold it to get the 2013 and the ride improved. The 2013 Michelins, after 10K are wearing good and I am happy with the ride. Hyundai listened to feedback on that issue for sure.
