  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I got to thinking about this during a 1-1/2 hour drive yesterday.

The 2013 Genesis is lacking a couple of major "refinements" and several "nice to have" things.

On the other hand, it has things that I either don't use or could easily get along without including:

Sun screen in rear window.

Lane departure warning system.

Adaptive cruise control.

Folding side view mirrors.

I would happily trade those for:

A decently featured passenger seat.

Heads up display.

A normal cruise control.

A read-out for the actual individual tire pressure.

An accurate mpg readout.

What would you trade for in terms of bells and whistles??

I agree on the sunscreen. The other three features I like, although it took a little time to get used to the adaptive cruise control. LDWS is a take it or leave it for me.

A lot of people have complained about the MPG readout. Mine is within 0.75 mpg on the three tanks I compared it to doing the math.

Yeah the sun shade is a bit worthless especially if you have the car tinted....however it does make a nice rattle when the bass hits hard And on that note more sound deadening insulation in the interior and trunk. Its a great system that rattles the trunk deck to death and makes me sound like a kid in his Civic with a radio that has more HP than the car.

More functionality of the adaptive cruise would be nice..... like the ability to manually set follow distance and radar on/off.

I could live without the 6 disk changer and would like a HD for my music, movies, map updates (oh and the ability to update my maps myself like every other GPS service known to man does) what have you.

More system and engine info(coolant temp, oil life, etc.) on the display or even a FLIR camera for night time driving now that's a bit much I know.

And for all the above I would give up the fuel mileage info.... its a V8 I didn't buy it to get good mileage, I bought it to haul a$$ and look good. I'd also give up the cooled seat its nice but not as effective as the heat. Plus the passenger does not need one apparently so why does the driver. ;)

*Bluetooth (I have a Go Phone for emergencies but virtually never use it).
*XM - never found anything worth paying for.
*Cruise control - have had it in lots of cars but never use it.
*Nav
*Heated seats (my wife turns the passenger seat on occasionally, but I don't use the heater on the driver's side)
*ESC Off
*Transmission sports mode
*Trunk lock system
*Sunroof
*CD Player
*Voice Command

Great idea for a thread!

I gave up:

Rear heated seats for a heated steering wheel and a climate controlled passenger seat with lumbar.

6 disc changer for Bluetooth streaming.

HD radio for an intuitive iPod interface.

Color info center cluster display for 3D maps, TPMS info, and adjustable vehicle maintenance alerts on the navi screen.

8 speed transmission for a 7 speed with rev matching and paddle shifters.

Eco Mode for Drive Mode Selector.

Auto hold brake for Distance Control Assist.

Remote folding mirrors for individual driver key recognition.

Instead of lane departure warning, give us side blind detection ala the Escalade from 3 years ago.

Ditch adaptive cruise, or give us the ability to switch into standard cruise.

ECO mode. I mean really, WTF were they thinking with a light that does nothing except tell me if I'm driving like an old man,,,,,or not.

Auto hold. Not much use unless you live in san Fran. or somewhere else with steep hills.

Forget the fog lights until someone decides to make them actually work, as well, fog lights.

Ditto everything Fast55, except I like my fog lights. Eco light especially, earns the most useless of the year award.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I never use auto hold.

Why live without??
We want More control:-
Variable ESC..Manual override of radar
in Cruise Control..ability to actually invoke
an Eco mode..Ability to change suspension
and steering settings to a Sport mode..
Plus:- More efficient driving lights,
A decent always visible clock..
Full BlueLink coverage Free for 5years..
A Genesis central register of known issues and
relevant fixes...Available to dealers and owners.
And tong in cheek, a full tank of fuel after
either warranty or regular service work,
not forgetting a CarWash & detail at all and every
visit to the dealership😳😳😳

First time i rented a Sonata I thought the Eco mode was actually supposed to do something....

Smack on with the items above.

The 8-speed is an unusual hindrance when going from auto to manual shift. There are just too many gears. This is typically the case when I find the "manual" shift desirable to "be aggressive", but the Hyundai "max fuel mileage" programming of the auto-tranny is unpredictable. 6 may be better than 8 for drivability with a minimal impact on fuel economy. (Don't get me started on 10. May as well have a CVT at that point with intelligent "shifting" that many MFGrs have already come up with.)

'12+ Eyebrow lights. Make them direct, high power LEDs without a diffuser as a substitute for DRLs and then we can talk.

Shiny, pretty surfaces. Reflects the sun in yours eyes. Examples: Shift plate silver surface, standard model fake woodgrain dash (not on the upgraded interiors.) Also includes the front hood cantering at the wiper/windshield point; the sun in front of you reflects directly into your eyes.

Auto-headlights. Fortunately, I can turn them off, but the sensor and associated circuitry is an additional cost.

While the OP asked, these are fairly minor gripes. I still think my '12 base G is a pretty stand-up ride for the $$$.

I agreed with you on almost everything but ABSOLUTELY not that. The dealer detail people (and I use that term very lightly) have no business touching my car.

Auto hold, never use it. Would gladly swap that out for BSDS or HUD in a heartbeat. I had two Bonneville's ('92 and '97) with a simple HUD and it worked wonderfully. Still don't understand given the relative inexpensiveness of such systems why more manufacturers at least don't offer the option.

THIS!!! Hate that canter on the hood, huge oversight in design there. Also some sort of shade or deeper recess for the DIS/NAV screen. It's useless on sunny days at certain angles.

Ironically I could live without 90% of the Blue Link functions. I like remote start and headlight. All the navigation features are worthless at best.

Man I use auto-hold almost every time I turn the car on. And I live in Texas, so that rear-screen is definitely useful. I think I could live without the eco light :-). Perhaps the LDWS, but I have definitely used it and was useful when I did remember to turn it on.

I use the sunshade all the time in the summer, and the smart cruise every single day, period.

Could live without the auto brake hold (only used it a couple of times) and LDWS (the warning chime is too low to be effective).

I sometimes wonder why I bought the Genny after listing all the things I never use (except to try them out):

LDWS
Auto-hold (people need auto-hold with automatics, really?)
Dipping outside mirrors when backing
Auto-on headlights
Bluetooth (wifey does use it however)
Manual tranny shifting
Heated seats (pulled the fuse for the rears due to poor switch placement)
Rear window shade
Puddle lights (hey, I'm in Arizona)
Rain detecting wipers (Arizona, remember?)
Rear window defogger (yup, same reason)
Adaptive cruise control (never use cruise control at all)
Valet parking key (no valet is ever going to drive my Genny!)
AM and XM radio (and analog FM only very rarely)
Nav (useless in sunlight, rarely drive at night, know my way around)
