  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Which DVD Audio to buy?

So... get a package from Amazon today:

One Beatles "Love" CD/DVD-A album. CHECK.
One Staind 14 Shades of Grey DVD-A album. CHECK.
One Marvin Gaye Collection DVD-A album. CHE... err... wait a minute. Feels a little light... (opens package, finds no disc inside).

Sigh.

That's a shame because the Marvin Gaye Collection DVD-Audio sounds amazing. Two other good DVD-A's worth getting are "Tommy" by the Who and "Black and White Night" by Roy Orbison, which is a two-disc set containing a regular DVD (audio and video) of his final concert and an even better sounding DVD-Audio disc (music only, no video) of the same concert.

Just got the Beatles "Love". Most of the songs sound amazing on the Lexicon but I have two questions.

1) When I play the DVD-Audio should I leave the surround sound on or off?
2) My player displays the name of the DVD but not the names of the individual songs. Is that normal?

1. Your choice. Some have speculated that engaging it provides the 7.1 instead of 5.1 on surround material (more from the sides), but I don't think that was confirmed. Do you hear a difference?

2. Yes.

Isn't it sweet to finally hear every instrument in A Day In The Life?

Thanks for the suggestions and replies in this and other Lexicon threads. The Love album is definitely a good choice for Beatles fans. The story of the making of this music, written on the package inside cover, is interesting as well.

The sound quality is amazing. I would suggest everybody buy at least one DVD-Audio just to hear how good this car's player can sound.

I think it is a good idea to get the Porcupine Tree albums from Burning Shed before they disappear.

Purchased an "almost new" Silverline dvd a from Amazon, $12, and it arrived today. All I can say is wow! About as close as you can get to a live performance.

I'm glad your experience was a good one. Sometimes Silverline releases aren't all they're cracked up to be.

For $12, I took a shot. Not disappointed.

Got my replacement Marvin Gaye collection - have yet to test it in 5.1 though :(

At least there was a disc inside this time!

Jazz DVD-A's that sound especially good and that are still available at a reasonable price at bestbuy.com and amazon.com include:

Diana Krall: "When I look In Your Eyes"
Sonny Clark: "Cool Struttin'"
Cannonball Adderly: "Somethin' Else"
John Coltrane: "Blue Train"

Is there really that big of a difference with DVD-audio vs a standard CD in Surround mode with the Tech package?

Absolutely no comparison, especially if you get one of the better quality DVD-A discs.

Lots of great suggestions. Thanks. I decided on Love. Bought it at Barnes and Noble tonight. I have always had awesome equipment in my homes and cars, JBL, Onkyo, Yamaha, Bose etc. I have never heard audio like this in my life. Amazing. I'm in awe. Gotta buy some more. Anybody know if The Wall comes in a DVD-A format?

Rocking out in Ohio Genny 4.6 style.

Handy reference here:

Though it doesn't include DTS 5.1 releases which can also sound terrific in the Gen/Equus.

I stumbled across Metallica's Black Album available through the bands website Metallica.com They have the DVD-A available for only $19. They charge $15 for shipping but that beats paying $40 or $50 for a used one. Just thought I would pass it along.
