  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Which DVD Audio to buy?

I stumbled across Metallica's Black Album available through the bands website Metallica.com They have the DVD-A available for only $19. They charge $15 for shipping but that beats paying $40 or $50 for a used one. Just thought I would pass it along.

Shawn

Thanks, just bought it:cool:

Lots of great suggestions. Thanks. I decided on Love. Bought it at Barnes and Noble tonight. I have always had awesome equipment in my homes and cars, JBL, Onkyo, Yamaha, Bose etc. I have never heard audio like this in my life. Amazing. I'm in awe. Gotta buy some more. Anybody know if The Wall comes in a DVD-A format?

Rocking out in Ohio Genny 4.6 style.

No on The Wall, but there's several versions of Dark Side of the Moon available. Alan Parson's original un-released quad mix was made available as a bootleg for download. It's rumored to be from the original source and the quality is really good. Then there was a sacd released as well with a totally different mix. Wish You Were Here came out recently in an expensive box set. This one may have been bluray, either way just converted it to dvd-audio. On the box set they also included the original quad version as well. There's rumors that The Wall will get released on bluray as well sometime soon.

Speaking of DTS 5.1...
Just got the Ray Charles duets album called Genius Loves Company (Monster Superdisc, 96/24 5.1 surround). Fantastic mix, strings and brass from the rears and sides, and crystal clear vocals. Ray's voice wasn't the best, but I think this may have been his last album.
Very impressive display of 7.1 in our cars.
Especially for $15.

One more thing:
Unlike DVD-A which (mostly) plays the 5.1 group automatically, this and other Monster discs require selecting the proper audio choice from the disc menu. You can't do that while driving. Otoh, if you're listening to it and then park the car for a few hours, it will resume play in the right format and place you left off.
Enjoy!

Is there really that big of a difference with DVD-audio vs a standard CD in Surround mode with the Tech package?

Yes, DVD-Audio sounds dramatically better than a standard CD. Just compare the Beatles "Love" DVD-A to the "Love" CD (you can only get the DVD-A packaged with the CD-version in a two-disc "Special Collection").

The high resolution DVD-A version has a much fuller, richer, more realistic sound.

i have ever bought one dvd player from the sundaybuy, it is nice. at least , it works two until now , and still works very nice

The great thing about most DVD Audios is that they also have high resolution stereo tracks as well. I just bought a Linn DSM streamer and now can listen to my ripped discs in the house as well. No surround sound with the current Linn though.

The Beatles "Love" DVD-A is amazing, and is usually the second or third best-selling DVD-A at amazon.com. But the best-selling DVD-A is "Gaucho" by Steely Dan, and for good reason. This is a beautifully engineered high resolution, multi-channel disc that really demonstrates the superior sound of DVD-Audio and the excellence of the Lexicon audio system.

Morning everyone.

I've really enjoyed my 2009 Tech 4.6 and haven't taken advantage of the DVD-Audio capabilities yet, but I have a quick question if someone can answer it for me please.

I've gone onto Amazon, and have seen lots of DVD-audio listings but it looks like some of them are video DVD's that they are calling DVD-A's.

As an example, Adele's Live At The Royal Hall, is a DVD/CD combo pack.

In reading some of the reviews, people talk about the video quality of the DVD and how good the CD is. I know the Genesis will play DVD video while stopped, but when moving would this qualify as a DVD audio?

Thanks again everyone.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I'll tell you this... if you need to navigate a menu on the "DVD", then I wouldn't recommend it - unless you're good about setting it all up before you start driving.

My Genesis "Invisible Touch" DVD doesn't show up on the screen while I'm driving. Impossible to navigate.

Should SOUND great though, regardless of whether it's DVD or DVD-A. ;)

DVD-A (Also called DVD Audio) is not the same thing as a DVD concert like the Adele disc you linked..

DVD-A typically has no video component to it (except for sometimes navigation when used on a DVD player with TV although this is not necessary).

DVD-A is uncompressed or lossless, whereas a DVD video concert will typically make use of Dolby or DTS compression on the audio tracks.

When you are looking on Amazon make sure the format indicates DVD-A or DVD-Audio. Also the cover will have a DVD Audio logo on it you can usually see from the picture. The Adele disc you have linked indicates a format of DVD, which means it is a standard DVD disc. It also looks like it comes with a standard CD of the same concert.
