  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong area, this is my first time ever posting anything on a forum. Anyway, I have been car shopping for about 2 months now. I have finally narrowed it down to a 2014 or 2013 Genesis. I absolutely love the car. My question is which one. I can get a '13 with 8k miles, has the tech pkg, for 28k out the door. Or a new 2013 with 100 miles for 29500 out the door...has the premium pkg. Or splurge and get a used 2013 rpec for probably around 32k out the door. Has 9k miles on it. Neither of the used cars are certified. The rspec is an amazing car but not sure if its worth the extra money. And im not sure if i should settle for the premium pkg. Is the tech pkg that much better? Thanks everyone. Take care

Take your time, drive them all, play with the toys. Decide whether you like the firmer Rspec ride and giddyup, or the softy-cruisy V6 more.

Then go Tech! 17 speaker Lexicon and cooled seats = win!! :D :D :D

Gunkk has the right idea, drive each of them and see which one you like the best. I went with a 2013 3.8 Base, it has everything I could ever need and drives perfect for me, plus it was a huge upgrade from my old Suburban. But I really wouldn't mind a extra 100 hp that the r-spec would give.

Unless you love to hit the throttle the extra 100 hp from the 5.0 won't mean much in everyday driving. The 3.8 is no slouch when it comes to acceleration.

I'm pondering the same question. I let a 2011 4.6 with relatively low miles go, even though it was selling for less than $18k. I'm now leaning towards a 2012 3.8 with at least the Premium package, if not the Tech package. I think I'll appreciate the upgraded suspension more on a daily basis than an extra 100 hp.

I know the context was re: 5.0, but to be clear there isn't a 100 HP difference between the 2011 4.6 and the 2012 3.8. It's more like 55-60.

There is a pretty big difference, however, in how the they pull at highway speeds. 40-100 in the 4.6 comes much easier than in the 3.8. All depends on how you plan to drive the car.

I faced the same question a couple of years ago. I went for the tweaked body style so it would not look old quite as fast. Really a great car and super quiet on the highway at 75 mph.

Mine pulls very nicely on the highway, adding speed plenty fast for me. Also the 8 speed tranny is super smooth.

My advice is spend up to your max budget, less 1800 and then buy the HPP warranty if you get anything other than a base car.

Don't settle for the first one that comes along. I sold my previous car and was Carless for about 6 weeks waiting on ms right. Then, there she was....500 miles away. A quick flight and a great drive home!

Good luck.

Would you suggest getting a HPP extended warranty for a 2013 Base model with 38,000 miles?
