  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

? is oil
I do maintanence that I am capable of, which is not a whole hell of a lot any more
have used mobile 1 in gas vehicles for years
I live in the desert (AZ)

looking for suggestions on what weight is appropriate for this Vehicle Have almost 3500miles and ready now

THANK YOU I know this ?probably asked many times

For the Arizona desert, I would recommend Mobil 1 5W-30, Mobil 1 0W-30 AFE, or Mobil 1 5W-30 EP. Other mainline synthetic brands would also be fine, but prices of Mobil 1 at Walmart are hard to beat.

I use 5w30 Valvoline synpower synthetic. Mobil 1 5w30 or Pennzoil Ultra or Platinum 5w30 would be my other choices.

You've probably made a decision by now, but, I like Royal Purple 5w-30.

Also, Pennzoil Ultra and Platinum 5w-30

And most on here like Mobil 1 (as stated, the prices on the Mobil 1 at Wally World are hard to beat)

I am also interested in the oil change. I plan on doing my own. I have a 2013 3.8 with Premium and Tech packages. I have the OEM oil filters (26320-3C30A) and am planning on using Castrol Edge 5 W 20. Going to change at 10,000 miles, about 9,500 now. One dealer oil and filter change was done at about 5,000 miles. Suggestions?????

You need to look at the oil change interval required in the 2013 Owner's Manual. If you don't change at least that often, your engine warranty (including 10 year-100,000 mile drivetrain warranty) may be void.

Mark 888.....I did not word the post correctly. The oil was originally changed at about 5000 miles. It now is approaching 10,000 miles (9,500). I intend to change at 5000 mile intervals. The Owners manual recommends 7,500, so I will change at intervals less than recommended. Using synthetic Castrol Edge should be plenty adequate.
Suggestions????

Sorry, that was probably my fault. Somehow I thought you said one dealer recommended 5000 mile oil change, and you clearly said one dealer did a 5000 mile oil change on your car.

I do oil changes at about 5000 miles with synthetic oil, which is about 6 months for me. Considering that the "severe service" schedule is less than 7500 miles, 5000 miles is not such a bad idea in case something goes wrong and dealer starts making a big deal about which schedule you fit into. Since you change it yourself, it doesn't cost that much money to do it that often.

Using a synthetic oil is definitely a good idea. Some people use 5W-20 and some use 5W-30 in warmer climates. A lot of people suspect auto manufacturers recommend 5W-20 these days in order to get better gas mileage to meet CAFE regulations, and not to prolong engine life. Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy is also a good choice. Just do not use a 0W-30 (or other viscosity) that is a "European Formula" oil, because it does not meet Hyundai specs for the Genesis.

a word of caution on oil change
you are not going to get under this one
if u use ramps has to be the new longer ones cause its too low for the normal ones
also there is a pan under the oil pan which needs to be removed has 8 bolts
i bought oiland filter at wally world and went to lube place in next building and pay them $20 I do my other 3 vehicles and i will do this one when i find the ramps
so what be best weight for AZ Deserti running mobile 1 10/30 now

sorry i "mis spoke" is mobile 1 5/30 i using
You should definitely use the OEM oil filter from the dealer. You can purchase them online in bulk if you prefer at places like www.newhyundaiparts.com. Mobil 1 5W-30 is a good choice. For a couple bucks more (per 5-quart jug) at Walmart you can get Mobil 1 5W-30 EP which is even better.

I used Mobil1 5-30 for my last oil change at 12k miles but made a change to 10-30. I purchased 5 cases of 10-30 for oil changes in my kid's cars but they're both moved out and I got alot of 10-30 to get rid of!

Changed my oil Thursday (3/3/14) Used the OEM Filter (26320-3C30A) and Castrol Edge Synthetic (5W-30). Also rotated the tires, Cleaned and waxed the wheels, even the backs. Giving it a good clean and wax for the summer.

Change back.

Send oil samples after same service interval with 10w30 and 5w20 and you will see more wear metals in the 10w30 oil.
