  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

First post here, though I have been lurking and learning for almost a year. I bought a 2012 3.8 base Cabernet Red Pearl in January 2014. We were hit in an intersection a little over a week ago and I think it is totaled. So, my shopping has begun again. The only gripe I had was with the Bluetooth echo (iPhone 5) and Bluetooth music would cut out from time to time.

I am looking at 2013 base models as well has some 2011 or 2012 4.6s. I know about the transmission upgrade for 2012. That said the choices are:
2011 4.6 with 21k miles listed at 23,800;
2012 4.6 with 39k miles listed at 23,800;
Any number of 2012- 2013 3.8 bases with 20-30k miles for 20+\-

None of the extras the 4.6 gives me are truly needed, though they are cool (horse power, moonroof, cooled seat, lexicon, navi and backup camera, the 2012 has sweet rims).

What's the right play here?

You know man, its hard for someone to tell you what to choose. Because, it will be their opinion. Me? I would go with the 2013 base. Why? Because its cheaper, and I have one! It really comes down to, do you really want ANY of those options? Can you live without them, or do you really think they are needed?

Re-sale? Don't worry about that, you won't get what you want anyway, so it really comes down to your comfort level of the price and the features you get.

Whatever you choose, I know you will be happy, BUT i would buy with with low, low miles. Because who wants a car with 40k miles, when one that has 20k is available? Again, all opinion :)

Only advice I have is stay away from 2012 5.0 engine.

@showbo +++1 could not agree more.

Therecanbeonlyone, first sorry to hear about your accident! I hope everyone was o.k.? especially you mentioned that the car maybe totaled!

Now back to your question, I can tell you once you get used to the Lexicon audio sound, you will never look back, the 4.6 in addition to the power, the ride is little firmer, plus you get nicer leather among many other goodies.

The 2012 4.6 will be a tad more composed than the 2011 4.6, I would personally get 4.6 (ideally tech package), if it is CPO I would add the HMA Platinum protection to cover the electronics.

Having said that it all depends on your needs, things like;

- Daily distance travel?
- Do you drive in the City or mostly Highway?
- is 1-3 MPG make a big difference to you?
- Do you like to see better at night (HID lights on the 4.6 Tech!)
- Do you like to listen to music? (the Tech it is worth it!)
- Do you plan to keep the new car for a long time?

These are but few of the questions that comes to mind...

Good luck with your hunting and keep us posted...

My non-oil burning 2012 5.0 wants to take a huge bite out of your 3.8 xss every single time you unconditionally contribute to the lower resale value of other people's cars. I think of Rain Man every time I see this kind of post from you. As if there wasn't enough data already out there - you seem to need to provide more. Same thing with R-Spec suspension harshness. Why don't you let the people who actually own and drive these cars do the reporting? They're capable and willing to do so.
