Why did you choose the Genesis?

Just wondering what the main points were that made you pick the Genesis over the competition. I am conflicted right now and trying to decide between a 4.6 Genesis and G37 (also looked at Audi, Buick, Cadillac and BMW and these two clearly stood out to me). I have enjoyed the info I have found on here, and it has helped me a lot, I just seem to be stuck on the edge and was wondering what swayed you guys to the Genesis.

Features to $$ ratio initially, then fell in love with the Lexicon.

I'm looking into the 2.0T coupe. Because they just don't make 2 door turbo cars anymore. I'm not a fan of modding 4 door cars or anything that isn't a v8 or a turbo from the factory.

Value for money spent. To get similar handling, power, and features in any other make you would have to spend at least $10-15 K more. It's also the best looking sedan out there.

The test Drive First.

Then spending about 4 months on this forum. - Never have seen so many happy people and few complaints on any Car Forum. And this having come from 3 Lexus

Awesome thanks guys, I am going to make my decision soon and your input helps a ton. I have only taken the V6 sedan for a test drive, and I figure the V8 probably is more equivalent to the G37's performance (since the Genesis is substantially larger) so I need to get back to the dealer and test one out.

1. Bang for the buck, good looks, nice paint job, more than enough power for me, no premium gas required, full size cabin for a big boy like myself
2. Very few Genny's around where I am. A4's, 328's, G37's, C-Class are everywhere - as common as Camry's and Accords.
3. Wanted something different after 25 years+ of FWD.
4. "You bought a Hyundai?" comments are always entertaining to me.

It was more car for the money than anything out there, and "for the money" didn't translate into giving up anything that was important to me.

15,000 miles later I have no regrets.

Had a Lexus LS400 -- loved it but it was really getting old (228K miles) and things were breaking... I went to test drive the Genesis as a curiosity (Had never been on a Hyundai lot before) but decided I wouldn't leave without it. I thought the ride on smooth surfaces was incredible, I loved the driver's seat, tech package gadgets, overall look.
I now have 38K on it and wouldn't be interested in another car. I realize it isn't perfect (original tires sucked) but it has everything I want and I love it.

I looked at the G37 and was impressed with the power but the tiny rear seat and somewhat cramped interior was not acceptable. This was a car I wanted to like because Infiniti is a bullet proof brand and the G with the sport package is a serious competitor to the 335 for a lot less money. Since I already have a 3 series, another will never be in my future due to its reluctance to be weaned from the service department. I also considered an E550, a GS460 and 550i as CPO vehicles but a 2 year old example was the same price as my 4.6 Tech, was no faster, was less economical, had a shorter warranty and less features. Overall I found the Genesis to be as well built, as well equipped and as fully featured as anything within $20k of its price. I have had mine for 10 months now and have no regrets.

Overall, for the price, the Genesis offered more features per dollar than the competition, including the cars you mentioned. I came from a G35, and I preferred the Genny's roomier, quieter interior. (I also looked at the G37 and M series.) I especially liked the Lexicon sound system.

I would advise you to take a long test drive before you decide, though. Some people - and I'm not one of them - find the Genesis' ride harsh. Even if that bothers you, however, it may change in the '12 model.

Why? Easy:
* Rear wheel drive. So few RWD choices out there.
* Good looks. The styling of most other premium brands doesn't appeal to me at all.
* Really good interior space: I wanted something to supplement my 2-door hatchbacks when my folks visit. Plus the visibility is stellar. I had tried a G35 sedan... much smaller interior and I felt like I was sitting too deep in the car. Back seat was a cave. Yuck.
* Last few generations of Hyundai products have had very competitive quality; the 10/100 warranty is icing on the cake.
* V8 performance (might be my last chance to buy a V8!) with amazing fuel economy.
* Value. No way would I pay for a BMW or Lexus or other premium brand.

I didn't want the Tech package initially until I compared the non-Tech V8 model to the Tech and saw the significant difference in headlight performance. Sold!

I was in the market for a sports sedan and considered all the usual suspects...5 series, E class, M45, and CTS. I was primarily interested in a one or two year old version of whatever I picked to let someone else eat the initial depreciation. Used 5 series are the most expensive of the bunch and they have less room and most versions have less power than the Genesis. I skipped Mercedes, as image isn't important to me. CTS's have very sporting rides, but the rear seat and trunk are vastly smaller than the Genesis; an important factor for me, as I have children. So I narrowed it down to the M45 and Genesis. Test drove the M45 sport. Acceleration and handling were outstanding. However, I couldn't get past the cramped interior or overly-busy dashboard (hated the dash!). Drove a used 4.6 Genny. Loved it. Interior was very high quality and spacious. Very fast. Ride quality reminded me of an Accord's (taut but not uncomfortable). Overall fit and finish were excellent. Exceeded all my expectations. Changed from looking at an '09 or a '10 to a new one, since as a Costco member, I get special pricing, which can be combined with discounts from Hyundai. Thus, the difference between a 2010 and a 2011 is only a couple grand. Should own it next week. BTW I had to have Xenon headlights, and the only way to get those on 2009 or 2010 cars was through the Tech Pkg. V8's did not come standard with them, as some people thought. Thanks.

was driving a XJ8 without a warranty. Had owned Hyundai before and had been following the up coming Gen. so when it finally dropped, I went and drove and was HOOKED on the power and handling. The lexicon pushed it over the top!

I looked at gen coupe's, and EVO MR, G coupe from Nissan, Also the M sedan from Nissan, was also considering Jaguar xj8r, and xkr.

I eliminated the nissan products because of pricing. anything that came close to being comp equipped ended up being closer to 80-90k than I wanted to be.

I loved the EVO - MR but needed a trunk - eliminated

coupes - really wanted a full back seat

Jags - lost out on performance and warranty ( i own one)

Im really glad i got the V8 gen b/c Im doing 0-60 mph in 4.83 secs with minor modds and pump gas - things that wont void a warranty, etc yada yada.

I wanted a large rwd sedan with power.

short list.

G8 (was new to market as was Genesis in 2009)...
Bad interior... red lighting, center stack controls for windows, hard plastic

535 (really loved the 550 but way to high on price).
This was a close second, turbo was the final nail, I don't trust them.

E550 (I didn't like it, and the price wasn't close to what I wanted to spend)

CTS too small

STS too dated, the northstar line really needs to go....

I looked at the Genesis because I read a good review in the fall of 2008... I thought it couldn't be that good... it was... took a little time to find the v8 in black as I wanted, but I was sold on the first drive.

Why...?

Huge power over everything that was available (the G8 GXP was released yet)...

Amazing stereo,,,I really can't say enough about it...

handles smaller than it is (not as small as a 550 but I live in the midwest, we don't build roads with bends in them)....

1/ Lincoln stopped building the Town Car.
2/ Not a fan of front-wheel drive autos.
3/ Good to great reviews of the 2009.
4/ A close inspection and a test drive revealed a luxury sedan that I could afford and live with.
5/ Fit and finish are up to Japanese/German standards, or so close that I can't tell the difference.

So, I bought one!

I really appreciate all the input, when I drove the Genesis everything just felt tighter and better put together than the G37, its hard to describe so I was just needing reassurance I guess. The low number of Genny's I see on the road had me worried, but I think it may just be a well kept secret down here in Houston.

Hyundai should pay you guys, on my spreadsheet of pro's and con's off the cars I am looking at has a big plus for the Hyundai for genesisowners.com
