  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've seen much discussion in this forum on replacing the traditional Hyundai logo on the trunk lid with the Genesis winged logo. I asked my dealer if he did this and he said he has a third party who will do it for $299 (sounds expensive, considering you can get the part from Amazon for less than $20).

I've always wondered why is it that so many people are doing the re-badging? Is it a subliminal message that they aren't truly driving a Hyundai?

My car came from the dealer rebadged but I'd have done it anyway.

The "wings" logo is better looking than the Hyundai standard logo and since the car comes with the wings logo on the front from the factory, having it on both front and back looks better.

My understanding is that's also how the comes in Korea, no Hyundai logo on the back.

The Hyundai badge itself looks bad to me, I think the Genesis badge just looks better. I also like all of the badges on the car to match. Now, whether the Hyundai badge looks bad to me on its own merits or if I unconsciously associate it with the Hyundais of the early 90's I can't really say.

I think it is obvious why people are doing it. As far as the cost, there are dozens of threads, and hundreds (maybe thousands) of posts on this forum on how to remove the old badge and place the new one there yourself. Some have pics and/or videos.

How much are others (dealers or third party) charging for the rebadge?
I don't know about 3rd parties, but many dealers do it free because they are used to having to remove dealer badges from the trunk. Putting the new one on is simple. If you check out the threads on the subject, it is not hard to do.

Took me all of 8 mins to do mine. Bring it to me and I'll do it for $150. :D

Seriously, look at this the same way as removing a sticker and replacing it with a new one. That is really all that needs to be done here.

Or...you can
just go to the video!

My dealer did it for free, he said all Equus and Genesis Sedans sold will get rebadged.

Personaly, I think the wings look better. It also matches the badge on the wheels and the front of the car..

Almost everyone rebadged their 2009-2014, even though it had a flying H on the trunk, wheels hubs, and airbag on steering wheel. In fact, many people replaced all the flying H's. Has nothing to do with "matching."

Bottom line is that replacing the flying H is cheaper and much more convenient than wearing a paper bag over your head so that no one will know you are driving a Hyundai. I think forum members should dispense with all the other BS explanations, and just call a spade a spade.

I proudly displayed my flying H on my Elantra and Azera. The Genesis wing is way classier and looks better. Period. I am quite sure that are many who DO want to hide the fact that they are driving a Hyundai, but your blanket statement in this regard is offensive.

1) I like to customize my car. It makes me feel less like a societal drone.
2) Non-observant people assume it's a Bentley.
3) Non-car people assume it's something exotic.
4) It turns me on when my wife rolls her eyes at me when I ask her if she likes something I've done to my car. It's a little game I like to call "Can you tell there's something different with my car?".

$300 is gouging and I bet he's pocketing 2/3. Grab yourself some Goo-Gone and floss and go to work.

Once again, exalting us with the superior wisdom you have even concerning our own thoughts. I should have known to just ask you what I was thinking instead of thinking it... I guess I'd better stop telling people it's a Hyundai too? Wouldn't want any holes in my bag.

I live in the Detroit area and Hyundai, for a long time, had (and for many still HAS) a reputation for making disposable cars that garnered no respect. In 2009, Hyundai caught my eye with the then new Genesis and I couldn't believe the quality and value it offered, but I only discovered it because I was willing to stop and really look.

The problem for Hyundai around here is that when anyone hears "Hyundai" or sees the flying H their brains shut off and they can't absorb what they're seeing - they just think "Hyundai" and proceed straight to "Not interested".

That can't happen when they see the car first and have to absorb what they're looking at. They look and look and try to figure out what it is. My wife and I came out to our car yesterday to find two women walking 'round and 'round it trying to figure out what model of Bentley it was. :) Frankly, I don't think it looks like a Bentley emblem, but it's still funny. Then it's a real hoot informing them that it's made by Hyundai. When they found out it was a Hyundai they walked around it again oohing and ahhing and saying what a great job Hyundai is doing.

Also, don't forget that the winged emblem IS the proper Genesis emblem. That and the fact that I think the winged emblem simply suits the elegance of the Genny are MY reasons for rebadging and I love to watch people really stop and LOOK. :) When they really look, they realize that Hyundai isn't that that same disposable car manufacturer anymore and are then much more likely to seriously consider Hyundai as a valid candidate in the automotive world - a hard fought consideration in this area. :)

Well, I can only speak for myself. The 2015 that I purchased, for me it was about matching.. the only flying H on the car when I purchased it was on the trunk.. which for me, did not make sense. I say again, I personally think the wings look better..

I did it to match the rest of the car..300 is a rip off..if you enjoy detailing your car you can handle the job in 15 mins

If you read above, the dealer did it for free when I picked up the sedan.. as far as enjoying detailing my car. My 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track has BC Coilovers, Injen SRI, and Injen Catback exhaust.. which I did install. :)

The wings look more classy to me, compare to flying "H"

You all convinced me to rebadge. I ordered the winged emblem and a Black & Decker rotary tool. I found a video on YouTube that shows how to do the rebadge. All I need to get is painters tape and some fishing line.

I've never done anything like this before and I worry that I'll destroy something on the car.

Dental Floss works also. You may need a hair dryer to warm up the glue on the existing badge, unless maybe you leave it out in the sun. If you have a helper, it will be easier (one person operate the hair dryer, and another the dental floss).
