  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why should I buy a Genesis?

I'm in the market for a used car, and the Genesis has caught my eye, specifically the 2015 coupe or sedan. I have never owned a car with over 170 HP, so the fact that I like the looks of the vehicle and it has more than 300 HP are 2 of the things I like about the car. But I want to hear from actual owners why they like the vehicle, and some more reasons I might like it.

Most of us bought for similar reasons. Quality, value, style, features, warranty. You get a lot for your money compared to some other brands.
I had 3 Sonatas and 2 Genesis and all have been very good. Like any brand, there is the occasional glitch but they have been far superior to others I've owned. Five cars over 14 years and 3 small warranty items.

Unfortunately, the Genesis brand loses resale value I believe, at a faster pace than most luxury vehicles. Fortunately, that is a great reason to buy a used Genesis. They are priced lower when new for the features you get and way lower used for a great vehicle. Huge bang for the buck.

Yep... Nothing like being able to buy a 3 year old $57k car for $20k.

Jaguars plummet pretty fast too - but I'd never buy one of those. They're junk. Genesis is just relatively unknown.

Hey Shiftyplus1...I purchased a pampered 16 Genesis 3.8 sedan RWD Ultimate..casablanca white/tan interior(13K miles) last fall. Found it through Cargurus(in Fla..I am in MI) after searching for months to find just the right one. Long story short the private owner and I worked out a deal and I had it shipped via car carrier up to me in MI. I bought this without seeing it in person(other than pictures/talking with owner) or driving it!!! totally out of character for me.The stars in the cosmos aligned and I could not be happier. The 3.8 has plenty of HP for me(311)...some prefer the 5.0. I would have bought this with a 5.0 also to be honest but it wasn't a must have. The car literally looked like it just came out of the showroom ..spotless!!. Sticker price was around 53K when delivered in Dec 2015 got it for 24K plus 750.00 to ship it here. The icing on the cake was that the previous owner had purchased (and was transferred to me) a bunper to bumper warranty purchased through the Hyundai dealer in Tampa. This warranty covers this car thru 2025. So that gave me a bit of piece of mind in making this purchase a reality. I have put about 6K miles on it in the past year. LOVE...LOVE..LOVE this car. It amazes me how quiet it is. The 17 speaker Lexicon sound system is stellar. . Some posts on this site... owners have upgraded the bass to add a bit more bottom. The HUD and other systems in this car are pretty good.... while not perfect...I now look for reasons to go for a ride. I plan on keeping this one for many years...One bit of advice that you may also find on other threads in this site....many would suggest having an extended warranty just in case..(if that is available for your situation). Seems like I have read that some 2015's have had some head unit issues at one time or another. Seems the costs to replace these can run 3K or so. Hope you find one that serves you well for many years..Keep us posted as to what you end up getting....cheers...John

The Genesis sedan is a large, quiet, comfortable car, which is what I wanted. It also looks darn good. The infotainment system is relatively simple to operate, and includes good old fashioned buttons instead of everything controlled by touchscreen or capacitive touch surfaces, which makes it easier to do simple functions like adjusting things like the temperature or heated/cooled seats while driving. You can get great used deals on them, and maintenance costs will likely be cheaper than a used German luxury car.

While the sedan is a great car for what it's designed to be, it is not a sports car. The ride is well controlled in the corners, but it's still tuned more for comfort than firmness. I've heard that the coupes are a lot sportier, but I've never driven one. Despite being both called Genesis, the sedan and coupe are completely different cars.

I recommend evaluating what you want and driving several cars. Do you want a large car with plenty of power for everyday driving and slightly-spirited drives on back roads, or do you want a sports sedan or coupe with tighter handling? Peak horsepower numbers aren't everything; factors like torque, power delivery (e.g., does power peak at low RPMs or high RPMs), tires, suspension, transmission tuning, weight and weight distribution greatly affect on how a car drives. The only way to know what's right for you is to drive several cars.

Lastly, if you decide on a Genesis, I recommend researching the differences between trim levels and model years. 2015 uses filament bulbs for the DRLs (white high beam bulbs on the halogen headlight models, amber turn signals on the HID headlight models), while 2016+ uses LED strips for DRLs. Android Auto and Apple Car Play are only available on the base audio/navigation system in early years (and after a software update). These became available on the premium navigation system in later years (around 2018 IIRC). The easiest way to tell which audio/navigation system a car has is to look at the center console; the premium system has a rotary knob behind the shifter, the base system does not. Starting in 2017 or 2018 the Hyundai Genesis sedan became the Genesis G80 (same car, different name). I recommend searching for both using online search engines to ensure you see all listings.

Whatever you decide, good luck!
