  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why would the Azera have power folding mirrors - but not the Genesis?

Hmm.. That's an interesting one. I mean, I know that SOME features need to be missing. At this price point, it's inevitable.. What do you think?

Hmmm, you kind of answered your own question. :) Unfortunately, you just cannot have it all at this price.

Seriously though, I'm not sure as to the exact reasons why Hyundai chose to leave this feature off the U.S.-spec car. Maybe their customer clinics/internal surveying determined that it was a feature that most people wouldn't miss. It's curious to me how closely the Genesis mimics the new Maxima in terms of feature content. The prior-gen Maxima had power folding mirrors, but the new one does not. My guess is that Hyundai is saving a few of these missing features (e.g. cooled passenger seat, power-folding mirrors, electronic parking brake, direct injection, etc.) for the refresh 2-3 years from now.

The idea of the refresh sounds like a great possibility. And maybe Hyundai benchmarked the Nissan Maxima more than they want to admit. In any event, it does make sense that the refresh will have a little more to offer.. All smart companies are doing this and maybe there wasn't anything major on the horizon other than these little things some of us complain about...

I haven't owned a big sedan before but I haven't really seen the need for power folding mirrors before. Plus it's just another motor/thing to go wrong.

Is it just one of those "it's a lot nicer to have than I thought" things?

Nah, not really. It's nice to have when you're parking in the street - especially streets with two way traffic. I've seen many cars with damaged side-view mirrors because of getting side-swiped. So it's something "nice to have" but not really a necessity.

You can always fold them in manually. Until 2007, even the BMW 750 had manual folding mirrors. It's really no big deal. I just thought it was odd (and I'm not alone) that the lesser Azera had power folding mirrors and not the Genesis...
