If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Forum,
Does anyone really know if we will see a 2014 Genny? I have seen some of the rules about model year numbering and they are weird at best. Any time after the start of the year (2014) manufacturers can release the next model year. Do we expect Hyundai to release the second generation Genesis (As a 2015) in January!? Unless the second gen. Is a world beater I expect to buy a 2013 or 14 if necessary as soon as I have some things sold around here. I like the appearance of the '12 and '13 so I wondered if Hyundai plans to release a '14 that's the same as 2012 & 2013? Obviously they are protectinng the appearance of the second generation. Does anyone know the plan?
Thanks,
Bill

According to previously published reports by those who claim to know, the 2015 Genesis will be available in North America towards the end of 2nd Quarter of 2014. It will be introduced in Korea before that. But delays can happen. It is expected to be "shown" at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January.

It does seem like the 2014 models should be available soon, but as of this exact moment, only a few 2014 Hyundai models are listed as available on the www.hyundaiusa.com website. But I expect that to change in the next 30 days.

I still see a few Genney's rolling in off the ships. Not sure if they are '13 or '14's. But one would think at this time of year, they would be 14's as it takes a few months to process them.

What do you mean you are not sure if they are '13 or '14's? Don't you have any wire cutters?

Wire cutters wouldn't do me any good. ;)

I see them flying by as they drive from the cargo ship, past my office, to the GAP receiving area. There are like 5 huge parking lots full of Hyundais here.

Plus I can just walk into the area. But there are no window stickers on the cars yet.

So how can you tell a '13 from a '14?

prob can tell the year from the VIN...

but I sure as hell wouldn't go thru the effort to confirm/deny.

you will see 2014s (Gen 1)

and my completely left field guess would be 2015's (gen 2s) around august or so. < based upon nothing but thin air.

ppp

edit: 2015 genesis G2 may show up later then August if the Supercharger rumors I made up come true. ;)

The salesman told me the 2014 models should be arriving at the dealer around March 2014 without much change

Is that because he wants you to buy a 2013 model right now, instead of waiting a few weeks for a 2014?

That is my guess too. We should start a forum poll. If the car is getting officially shown in January, then a 1Q consumer availability date is very tight. The Detroit Auto Show is late January. If port-to-port transit times are more than a month, and then there are more North American logistics time to get cars from port to dealerships, I can't see how they will be here before Summer. Car's would have to be in production and already shipping by the time of the Detroit auto show.

I bet mid- to late-summer 2014, at the earliest.

I read in some place the 2014 genesis sedans will be available and the only change will be a redesigned headlights, it will be like that of genesis prada, check the pic its a non prada normal Genesis 2014 got it from Hyundai's official page in Facebook.

OK, so I need to keep an eye out for the new headlights. I'll report back when I see them.

A few months at the dock??? My Genesis was factory ordered and delivered to the dealer in about 6 weeks. I ordered it just after the Cabernet Red became available on the R-Spec. I suspect that an R-Spec with that color was scheduled on their line, and they put my name on it. The salesman called me about a month after I had ordered it and said it was at the port. About 10 days later it was at the dealer.

These shots look MUCH better than the spy shots pharr44 posted last week... if the nose is indeed elongated (a-la cobra/e-type) vs. blunted like an audi, we might have a winner here.

  1. Hyundai is expected to release the 2nd generation Genesis in Korea about 6 months before they do in North America (as was done in 2008 for the 2009 MY). The second generation Genesis is expected to be a 2015 model when released in North America (supposedly by end of 2Q).
  2. There will probably be a 2014 Genesis released very soon. Looking at the Hyundai USA webpage, the Genesis is not the only Hyundai vehicle that has not released its 2014 model yet.
  3. I believe someone else said in another thread that the images above are "renderings" (computer generated drawings) and not photographs. Don't be surprised if the real 2015 is a little different.

I just checked HMA service and found the following on my car.

Production date. 5-30-11
Port arrival date. 8-9-11
Service date at dealer before I bought it. 10-18-11

I bought mine at the begning of Nov, 2011.

So according to these dates, it was about 2 months between port entry and delivery. My dealership is about 15 miles from the port entry.

As I said, I see them rollin off teh ship, and I see them load up on teh trucks for delivery. AS for the Genney, it seems at least 2 months between the two. ;)

So my guess is that the car was already in the states and being preped/going thru customs when you "ordered it". Seeing how there are very few options on the car, and they get installed at the Port of entry, that makes sense. All of the factory options on my car were installed at the port of entry, including the summer tires.

edit: On a side note, I just checked the sticker in the drivers side door jamb. That plate has a build date of 29 May while HMA has one of 30 May. So when was she born?

Interesting... If this is a reasonable pattern-- 5 months from production to lot-- then we are on the bubble for a May availability of the 2015, and June is becoming less likely.

Mark888's comment below that the Korean introduction preceded the U.S. by 6 months would tend to affirm the shipping timeframe above. Korea will get the cars when they are coming off the lines. U.S. will get the cars when they have shipped and staged enough on our shores. My hunch is that they will not open for sale until they get at least 2K cars on U.S. soil.

My 2009 was about 3 months from build date to purchase. I think it just depends, because obviously they don't send shipments of the Genesis from Korea on a continuous basis, maybe once a month?

Traditionally, Asian manufacturers have introduced new models domestically a little sooner than for export markets, so if there is a problem they can correct it on the manufacturing line. Asian domestic customers are very loyal to brands made in their own country, so they can tolerate some early mistakes more than US customers would. I think that is another reason (besides shipping) that there is a delay between Korean and US introduction of the 2nd Generation Genesis.

Seems more like 3 to 4 months bewteen shipments of Genesis coming in here. But for the rest of the Hyundai lineup, it seems about every month or two. Not every shipment that comes in here has Genesis or Eqqus on them.
