  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Will you buy the new 2015 or wait??

I don't disagree that the technology adds cost, but Hyundai has proven they can do it for less if they choose to. I'd happily pay $1500-2k more to have LED headlights with high beam assist and a navigation system that is at least as good as the one on my phone....it's updated at least a couple times a year and doesn't cost me anything additional beyond my normal phone bill. While I think night vision would be cutting edge I do understand that it's very cost prohibitive, most of those systems run in excess of $3k even as an aftermarket product.

Well in all fairness about the nav, it looks like it's pretty easy to send nav instructions from the phone to the car, so for me, the nav being klunky isn't as big a deal.

As far as night-vision, I didn't even know they had after-market alternatives. Cool. And ouch!

What features are late to the party or need to be matched?

The tech features appear current state of the art and ahead of the target vehicles - BMW for sure. The new suspension should come closer to a true road car and the interior looks more in the league of $50K+ cars. It may not be a home run, but on paper, it is not lacking and if the value component holds, it will do well.
Ditto. They may be a small jump ahead in the whole UI. The stuff I wished I had in mine were things like HUD, heated steering wheel, better LDWS (that hepatic thing), cooled passenger seat, etc. BMW has had these since before the Genesis was first introduced. However, it looks like all of this will be on the 2015.

These are a few of my little observations that could be a major gamechanger and suck me in, even though I love my 2012...

* Heated steering wheel (man, do I miss that)
* Intelligent Drive Mode-- I bet this fixes the laggy transmission programming
* LDWS with that fancy haptic feedback
* Evan fancier Lane Keeping Assist System
* CDC suspension-- sucks it is only on the V8; other makes do not differentiate on a feature like this
* All of the fancy Audio & Nav UI enhancements
* Power trunk with the hands-free joy
* Rear door proximity unlock (I can't believe it is missing from my 2013)
* HUD - I really wanted this when I bought mine
* Better looking seats
* Better smart cruise that will stop the car
* Real wood and real metal interior trim
* TPMS that actually displays the tire pressure

Night vision on BMWs ($2,400) is flaky IMO, at least on 2011 5s. It recognizes people and bicycles on the side of the road and displays a big yellow warning symbol in the HUD. But it does not always work well or at all, and it does NOT recognize deer with a warning, which requires you (or a passenger) to be looking at the screen rather than straight ahead. The S-Class night vision system is superior in every way and is fundamentally different in every way, natural, intuitive and safe.

Yeah I would think that if anyone would get it right, it would be Mercedes. In my mind, they've been on the cutting edge of automotive innovation for years now. Top Gear once listed off all the automotive "firsts" that the S Class was responsible for, and it was pretty impressive. Things like ABS, for instance. Of course, for a while there they weren't known for being terribly reliable with all that whiz-bang stuff (I've never owned one, personally).

I am ready for a New Genesis next Fall. I had my eye on the 2015, because of the AWD. But since getting the Conti DWS Tires I might choose the RWD again. I was not thrilled when I went from a RWD Lexus GS to an AWD Lexus GS. I liked the RWD GS350 much better.

I was thinking about buying the 2014 at a discount when the 2015s came out. I noticed that the 2014s no longer offer the Genesis in RED. Only 4 colors that are quite boring.

AFAIK there are no other Cars that can compete with the Genesis right now for ME PERSONALLY.

Mercedes biggest reliability issues were due to their ill-fated Chrysler hook-up that was worse than the worst one-night stand in a dirty, steamy foreign port. They attempted to do a supply chain consolidation, sharing lowest-price components across brands, and it was a disaster. I think they've pretty much recovered from that, but count the years it's taken.

Not quite yet.. After the numerous but non life threatening issues with my V6,
now hopefully sorted, I'm going to give it a good life for 2years (Reliability not withstanding). After that I dunno, I usually never replace my cars with a newer model, always jump sideways. My eyes keep searching for a Porsche Macan,
it may though be too small.. I like bigunS!.. Hyundai Equus a possibility :)

My last few years might well be spent climbing in & out of new 911..

By the time I'm ready to sell my 2013 Gen, I'll be looking at third generation models (2020?) So I'll likely be skipping this new design run altogether; not because of dislike rather I just dont replace my car all that often.

^^Ditto!

Hmm...sounds like Boeing's 787! :D

Nav-TV has the one from FLIR Inc. which is the largest producer of night vision equipment and is used by our military in some vehicles and for other applications. Here is a link, it's pricey @$3500 for the complete kit but really cool IMO. Now take this a step further and have the image on a HUD, that would be great from a safety standpoint. I'm sure Hyundai can get that pricing down considerably if purchasing in mass quantities.

The "trick" for Hyundai and the Genesis is to provide a really good car at a really good price point. While the latest doo-dad is nice, there are other things that come first. They include ride, handling, interior comfort, reliability, and a price point well under a comparable Mercedes/BMW. And don't forget about the "little lady" in the passenger seat.

The biggest tech improvement that I would actually use in my 2013 Genny is the HUD. And a good passenger seat comes before that. I would gladly give up the LDWS for those two things!!!

FLIR is amazing! I saw one in a car at an electronics trade show. Proper integration with the car would be the key - otherwise, you'd end up with a beautiful system that would be a safety fiasco because people wouldn't be able to keep their eyes off it and on the road. :(

No, I will take a pass on the 2015 Genesis. I had been closely watching for some time the tidbits of info about the new Genesis, and was definitely planning on buying it. Some of the earlier renderings of the new Genesis that leaked onto the web had me excited about the new model. But once I saw the new styling on the actual vehicle, I gagged. So I went and grabbed a 2013 5.0 R-Spec, and got it for cheap! I do like some of the new bells and whistles on the new model, many of them are addressing shortcomings of the 2013 model. But I am sad to say that the new styling just doesn't do it for me at all.

I am going to wait and see it in person - pictures rarely do justice to many cars and it is only a few weeks until the major auto shows. I am also tempted by the fire sale prices on the outgoing model, but do not see making a decision before at least seeing one in the flesh (or metal).

Maybe this deserves a new thread...

i currently have a 2012 Genesis R-Spec. Was really looking forward to the 2015 update. Now that it is almost here Im not really feeling the love. There is something missing to make this look and feel like a luxury car. The 2009-2014 MY sedan seems to 'look' more luxurious. I know its all subjective so dont beat me up for my opinion!! :grouphug: I do like all the new gizmos on the new car, but Im really gonna look hard at the KIA K900. That is really an impressive looking machine. KIA did a fantastic job on the Optima and if the K900 is anything like that, it should be awesome.

For now Im still not sold on the 2015 Genesis, but ya never know. KIA K900 will be seriously looked at when they come to the US.

I wonder if the KIA K900 is based on the old Genny platform or the new one?

Good points.... I was drooling over the expectation of this upgrade on now Im underwhelmed. Also, its hard to justify paying $10k more for the same engine.. The pre-2015 bodystyle is still a fine looking specimen.

Guess I gotta wait and drive it.

I watched the entire video...

honestly even if they put in a 600 hp V8... I still wouldn't buy it.

The problem is the size... the car is just too big for my liking.

The 2015 is literally 0.2 inches longer than our cars.

What features are late to the party or need to be matched?

I think some of the tech is developed but just isn't going to cross the ocean. The Korean Genesis videos showed full active parking where the car determines if a space is large enough then parallel parks into it by itself. That'd be pretty trick for a tight space!

I agree with you on the k900...really looking forward to seeing/driving it and anticipate some great introductory lease deals because I think it will take some time, if ever, for this car to succeed...how much demand is there for a non status, status car that is not already being filled by the Geneisi and Equus?

Recently saw a list of the slowest selling vehicles in the US and the Cadenza was one of them...so it appears buyers are slow to accept upscale offerings from Kia, at least at this time.

One of the things that attracted me originally to the Genesis/Equus was the fun of having a car few people recognized which should also be the case with the K900.

Of course, hard to draw any conclusions until we actually see them in person.
