  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Zep, Invisible Glass, and (believe it or not) Armor-All Auto Glass Cleaner (cheap!!!). All right off the shelf in your nearest Walmart.

The secret to glass cleaning isn't the cleaner, it's the cloth you use. Most people use standard microfibers, but there's better to be had. Get yourself some dedicated glass-cleaning cloths from one of the online auto detailing suppliers. Good luck.

P.S. Stay away from cleaners containing ammonia if you've had tint applied to your windows.

Obviously, this applies to the interior side of the glass, and there are "auto glass" cleaners made for this purpose without ammonia. Regular ammonia based cleaners are OK on the outside (but make sure you don't spray on a waxed surface).

Newspaper works well for glass as well. I've always used Stoners Invisible Glass and newspaper.

Sprayway is what I use, it cost around $2.00 at Home Depot

Nothing like newspaper to clean your glass. With any of the mentioned products.

How to clean a windshield? Really? :D

Strongly agree...this stuff is by far the best window cleaner around. I have even used this to clean bugs off the front grill and bumper area.

invisible glass and adams have great cleaners as well.

Give Aquapel a try. Lasts at least 6 months in Vancouver's rainy weather. When I think it stopped working, usually washing the dirt off the glass will bring it back. Downside is it's pricey and time consuming to apply because the glass needs to be as clean as possible.

I've been using Sprayway for about 40 years. You can find it in almost any grocery/big box store.

I also use the Interstate 350 dual-ply, blue paper towels (the kind gas stations used to have many years ago).

Just make sure to evenly spray all of the glass before using any type of towel.

Really anyone spending that much time...and of course money to clean a windshield???

Not to mention a thread with 22 posts on how to clean a windshield. Unbelievable :D

Just curious; where did YOU learn how to properly clean a windshield?
I'd like to think you're joking, but I guess not. It's glass - I use a glass cleaner just as I do around the house. That's how I've done it for all 12 or 14 cars I've owned over the span of my life. Don't mean to sound in any way rude or offensive - but IT"S JUST GLASS - paper towels and Windex work perfectly, just as they do on any other glass surface. There truly was no learning curve involved - just common sense :)

Allan,
While I do agree that cleaning a windshield is common sense, it might damage the windshield or may cause problems to humans esp the cleaner which have ammonia in there. So, it is best to cull in the expert opinions when you have it available than to just go through trial and error way of working aka common sense.

Common sense tells me to take my car through automatic car wash but there are not many on this forum who do this, instead they hand wash it. So, someone who does not own any other car, he/she will not have the experience or family/friends to tell them what to do. :)
