In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Has anyone have a problem with their Genesis window coming down on its own when it rains or while going through the car wash, a friend of mines has a 2009 4.6 Genesis and everytime he goes through the car wash his rear passenger side window goes all the way down , needless to say inside the back gets completely drenched & Hyundia doesnt seem to know how to fix it

You sure he isn't driving a VW? They're notorious for faulty window regulators, even to the tune of a class action settlement.
But it is puzzling that Hyundai (his dealer?) doesn't "seem" to know how to fix it. How many miles? New or used? Has he tried a different dealer?
Inquiring minds want to know...
;)

Mine did this about a month ago. They found the problem in the driver's door with some sort of seal that wasn't installed correctly and water seeped in and began shorting the power window connections. Once they corrected this issue, I have had no further issues with the window. Have the dealer check the driver door for this seal!

Defective door seals can cause all kinds of issues. I agree water or excessive humidity must be getting into the switch somehow. My Genny has never done this but last night I was sitting in the living room and in the kitchen the under cabinate electric can opener started all by itself??! After getting up and turning it off and have it happen again 5 minutes later I decided to yell " Do it again and I'm calling Ghost Busters" and oddly enough it hasn't happened any more. I'm not making fun of anyone here that really happened!

I have a 2009 Genesis 3.8 sedan with 14K miles.
The rear passenger window has gone down on its own three times. First time, during wash cycle of car wash. Soaked the rear seat and carpet. Tried to raise but window was unable. Dried out car overnight and the window worked in the morning. Brought to Hyundai dealer for service and was told they would not do anything to repair the problem based on my testimony since the problem could not be replicated. They also suggested I lowered the window with the switch which was impossible and insulting. It was a cold drive home.

Second time, window went down during drying cycle of car wash. Deafening! Immediately drove to dealer. Window did not work when I arrived. At the dealer, problem could not be replicated but after a few days, they replaced the rear window control module. A week later, I went through car wash and nothing happened. A week after that, the third incident occurred.

Third time, about 4 or 5 minutes after leaving the car wash, same window went down on its own. Tried to raise window with switch a couple times, nothing happened. Third time window raised up. Then, pushed and quickly released the switch for that window and the window lowered all the way the way the one touch front windows do.

Very thankful children were not in back seat during the car wash events.

So far, Hyundai service has been disappointing, to say the least. Hyundai customer service needs to improve or Hyundai will fail, especially in the luxury car market.

Awaiting Hyundai decision on repair. Per dealer service dept, Hyundai is unaware of this problem.

My right rear window went down one time during the rinse cycle at a car wash. It was a real wtf moment for sure! But in my case it went right back up when I tried to raise it, so back seat didn't get soaked, just good and wet. I had assumed that I had accidentally hit a button to make it go down until I saw this post -- although I didn't think that could logically have happened during the carwash.

Have had dealers give me that line and it is insulting. They come very close to saying that we are fabricating (lying) about what happened and refuse to believe it is anything by owner error.

Not they way to instill brand loyalty. My experience with real luxury brands - BMW, Lexus, M-B, etc. is completely different. They will go out of their way to fix a problem and don't insult the client who pays their salary.

Hyundai needs to realize the way to earn brand loyalty is by offering excellent customer service. I purchased the first model year Genesis and am often asked my opinion of the car. I feel compelled to inform potential customers of the customer service experience I have had with Hyundai. Shortly after purchase, there was an issue with the driver's seat track and it was finally fixed on the 4th visit to the dealer. The regional service manager refused to address the problem appropriately until the 4th visit. Like most people in the luxury car market, I am way too busy to be dealing with the same problem 3 and 4 times. Furthermore, to suggest I would contrive an issue is ridiculous.

Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to have owned vehicles by BMW, Mercedes, and Honda. By far, my experience with Hyundai customer service has been poor. Regardless of the cost of a vehicle, customer service equates to success.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Wow, it must have been really annoying especially during a carwash.
Mine is okay so far(knock on wood), but then again, I don't go through auto carwash.
I do, however spray the exterior with pressure washer on a self-wash bay.

I've never had this problem myself, but nearly everyone seemed to breeze right by Navion 49's reply.

He had it happen to him, and it was a bad seal. Seal replaced, problem solved. Has anyone with the problem gone to the dealership and had this checked out? Because of the common denominator of water when the windows malfunction make Navion's reply pretty plausible.

Seems to me, it might resolve a lot of aggravation...it wouldn't be the first time that this forum had the answer (heated seats and steering wheel problems come to mind).

Navion 49: Do you know which particular door seal was repaired?

I did share this information with the dealer service advisor and he said Hyundai is not aware of a problem like this. It seems strange to me that Hyundai is not monitoring problems reported on websites. Perhaps some service departments are better at figuring out the origin of a problem than others.

Networking is a great way to share information.
It reminds me of how lucky we are that Al Gore invented the internet! LOL.

All I know is what the dealer told me. There is a seal in the drivers door that was installed incorrectly. They replaced it and so far no more problems. There can't be that many seals in the door. Surely your dealer can figure out it out?

We own a 2013 Genesis and have had the same experiences both with the rear windows and dealers. However, thank you for the notification on the driver's side seal. We will request they replace this. Very helpful information. Thanks.

This happened to me, and it they replaced the module in the driver side door.

Something I personally do, If something is starting to go wrong with my car I grab my smart phone and record it. :D

My right rear window kept going down randomly. We finally figured out that the dog has learned to open the window by stepping on the button. ;)

I knew a guy that got locked out of his pickup truck because his dog stepped on the door lock buttons! :-)

I have a 2012 Genesis and both rear windows go down when I'm in a car wash!!
The dealer has replaced the drivers side master control and both rear window controls and NOTHING has fixed the problem!!!
A car should be able to go to a car wash without the windows rolling down!!

I had similar weird behavior on a rear window several years ago. I replaced the master set of switches in the drivers door ($35 NOS on ebay). No problems since. Just don't let water get into the master switch like driving with the window open with ANY moisture outside. It will drip straight down like its targeted at the window control switches. I'm convinced that my old one had intermittent shorts from that water damage. Really frustrating I know. It happened once driving from NJ to FL in the rain...

I have had the same problem a couple times now with both rear doors on my 2013. It only happened when it rained a heavy downpour which is the worst possible time to have this happen. I couldn't get the windows to go back up either, it's like the switch contacts get stuck. The first time it happened I removed the door panel and noticed the window motor was really hot like if someone were holding the switch down. To get the window back up i had to unplug the switch and stick 2 jumper wires in the harness plug. I have prevented it from happening again by unplugging both rear window switches. Using the window lock button did not prevent them from rolling down on their own. Although it was really annoying both times it happened this is the only problem I've had with the car so far since owning it for a year- knock on wood.
