  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking for some winter rims for my 2010 4.6 w Tech. I live in CT. I've seen some posts in other threads about avoiding certain rims (e.g. silver machined) if the car will be exposed to salt.

Can someone please explain what types of rims specifically to avoid? For instance, should I avoid all "machined" rims? Not really sure what that really means...

Thanks

machined just means that its basically an area brushed metal. its like a matte/flat finish....such as these....

i think they will hold up fine in the winter or whatever but dont trust me 100% ive only seen snow once. just avoid chrome. its usually cheap plastic, will get dull over time, and overall just look really crappy

We get a lot of snow here in upstate NY... My tire guy told me that the tires on the Genesis.. the 18's.... do not have a very good profile for winter driving... too fat and too low. He suggested 4 17" aluminum rims and he compensated with a higher profile tire... and then some pretty aggressive snows on the car. the whole deal was only $850. It seemed to make sense to me... wonder if anyone else has heard of this..
thanks
