If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I will be getting my Genesis 5.0 R-Spec soon...

As I am trying to sell the winter tires of my old Santa Fe, I am wondering what would be the best winter tires for it?

Should I keep the 19 rims and get tires for that?
Or move down to 18 or 17 inch wheels?

What have you used during cold Canadian snowy winters?

Dunlop SP Wintersports 3D here in Minnesota. They worked well on 19" wheels.

If you could move down to 18's that may allow you a greater choice of winter tires, but I'm not sure about clearing the calipers in the R-Spec.
I doubt 17's would clear them as they did on earlier V6's.
As for tires, there is no 'best' one really, it depends on what trade offs you're willing to make and what type of driving you do.

I had 17's on my 4.6 which I still have. When I first shopped for them the price difference from 18" to 17" tires almost paid for the 4 wheels hence the decision to go 17". Plus the fact you get even a wider selection to choose from. I think they may have changed a little in size on the Rspec so I still need to test fit them but maybe next week. As for tires I have Conti extreme winter contact. Can't think of the size right now. Here is a sad picture of the 17" wheels. Chinese knock offs at 110$ each which held up extremely well through 2 salt infested Montreal winters.

Can't advise on wheel size but I can comment on winter tires.
Check out nokian hakkapeliitta, I have the R's on the genny 18's, but I wanted to get the studded 7's, they just didn't have them in stock. You can get them at kal-tire, they are the best winter tires on the market according to all the tests I looked at and come in tons of sizes. Never had a problem with them in winter, seems to just keep grabbing and grabbing when I try to break the rear end loose.
I also had X-ice i2's or whatever they are called, worked really good, but had them on a audi with quattro so it never slipped and can't really compare to the nokians.

Yeah, I have the Nokian's on my Sonata... which my wife will inherit once I get my Genesis...

I can find them as 235/50R18 but not in 19'... Will the 18's fit on the R-Spec?

Not too sure about the R-spec, if you're in winnipeg, you can come and testfit my 18" winter wheels on your car, when you get it of course.
And do you have the hakka R's on the Sonata or the studded 7's?
I wanted to try the 7's so bad but they were going to charge me an extra 200 because the size I needed weren't anywhere near here. And they gave me a really good deal on my R's.., I sure like kal-tire for making deals on tires, old-school haggling

The R's and not the 7's...
I believe the 7's are studded which may make it difficult to travel as they are not allowed in some provinces and states...

No tire is studded, they are made to take studs which the installer can install.

Not an issue if it is legal in your state/province and you are travelling to/through another state/province where it is prohibited. Just like here in Quebec, it is illegal NOT to have winter tires during winter however if you come up from where ever with summers on you are legal. ;)
