  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can someone help me understand the wiper system on 2015 Genesis Sedan? I set the wiper to auto and increase level to high and the wipers don't move unless there is a subtantial amount of water on windshield for it to start moving and when they sweep the windshield it takes a while for the 2nd sweep. Is that normal?

From the manual:
AUTO : The rain sensor located on
the upper end of the windshield
glass senses the
amount of rainfall and controls
the wiping cycle for the
proper interval. The more it
rains, the faster the wiper
operates. When the rain
stops, the wiper stops.To
vary the speed setting, turn
the speed control knob (B).

Turning the knob changes the sensitivity so it goes faster or slower. I forget which direction, I think back is faster. Mine is near the center and works well for me.

If there is no rain, it will no move but once it started, the wiper will clear. In light mist, it may stop until there is more water. Adjust to get the sensitivity you want.

In light rain, I may get a wipe every 10 or 20 seconds but then a passing truck splashes and they speed up a few wipes to clear it. If the rain increases, the speed increases to maximum if needed.

Keep the windshield clear around the sensor. Experiment to get what works for you. In summer here you can go from sun to sprinkle to downpour to sun inside of a mile or two. I've not touched anything for probably a year. They just go on as needed. Freezing is not a concern,
All that said, mine work great, a few others here say they don't like the way it works so they are not all perfect.

Mine doesn't work anything like that... but I suspect that the previous owner had replaced the windshield and it didn't get recalibrated correctly.

mine either, takes a little bit to kick in, then even in light rain it flaps like crazy. I'm constantly adjusting it from the higher setting to get it started then to the lowest to slow it down as much as possible. ppl must think I'm blind with my wipers flapping away all the time. Is there a manual interval wiper setting?

Yes, there is a manual position for the wipers. Pull the wiper arm down one position past auto and you will have a even, slow/medium operation of the wipers. Pull the arm down another notch and you will have a fast speed, but not the flapping speed that occurs in auto. I've had 3 Genesis models and they all can get out of whack in auto. Seems like heavy rain will start the flapping and it takes forever to slow down. Just move the wiper arm down one position for improvement. The wipers will need to be shut off as this is manual and they won't stop when the rain stops.

I may be off my rocker, but I recall mine not working all that well, either, when I got the car. Several months later (earlier this year) I applied RainX to the windshield. About all I noticed was that water beaded up and ran off the windshield as I drove. However, the auto wipers on/off seemed to improve. They just seemed to work when I expected them to.

Maybe the water rolling by the sensor causes the wiper action to kick on sooner, or more expectedly? I dunno.

The only time mine reliably activate in "Auto" is when I accidentally leave em on in the car wash... Although when I took a 1000mi road trip last December, they worked as expected for the entire trip! I have no clue - was it sunspots, black magic, the equinox or aurora borealis? Don't know.

Only thing that doesn't function on my car, but like skip said, suspect it's due to the aftermarket windshield installed by the first owner. I drove it home from the dealership through the most torrential rainfall I've ever been in and the wipers never activated automatically once. It's disappointing, but hardly a killer for the car in my opinion.

Yeah... it's more of a nuisance than anything else. Not worth taking it in on it's own. I'll bundle that issue in with something else I may end up going to the dealer for.

No. My rain-sensing wipers comes on when it rains at a decent amount over a few drops and stops only when the misting rain stops. The wiper speed control has no effect on the rain sensing action or sensitivity to my knowledge. The harder it rains the faster wipers move in my 2015.

It is not a perfect sytem, but it works pretty well if you keep your windshield as clean as possible so the sensors can accurately read the rain data.

Let’s be honest, Hyundai/Genesis rain-sensing wiper system stinks. I have same problems with my ‘12 Genesis and my ‘19 Santa Fe. BRING BACK THE INTERMITTENT WIPERS! At least they worked. I don’t need a sensor to tell me when it is raining outside.

You can just set the wipers to delay manually instead of auto. So you got the best or worst of both worlds when it comes to wiper function depending on how you look at it.:)

I just leave my wipers on auto and they work just fine for me. Not perfect, but works well enough for what I needed in auto.

I guess my point is that the intermittent wipers of old worked perfectly.

How? Nothing in the manual about delay except AUTO
Darn, you are right. I was thinking that the center control was for a delay or intermittent wipers. It appears that it is the speed control for the auto wiper system. Therefore, I stand corrected because I should have checked before making statements that I did not verify first.:censored:

I have only used the auto wiper function since I had the car.

You are right. Sometimes simplicity is better.

I also want to say that I was mistaken. You can only adjust the wiper auto system speed in a delay like function. The normal wiper controls has only high and low controls with no delay. I only used the auto function so I never really touched the other wiper controls and assumed that the center wiper control lever was the intermittent controls.

It's a dumb setup. Auto wipers invariably don't work well from car to car be it because of sensor variability, windshield replacement or general gremlins. Every forum for every make with the "feature" has innumerable threads on the topic filled with people who say it works 100% of the time and people who say it's never worked. Not offering a manual delay control is fairly silly on Hyundai/Genesis' part.

Other brands are the same. Had them on a couple of GM cars too. I like them, but mine have worked well.

Depends on the brand, Jeep has both auto and manual delay settings for their Grand Cherokees. Auto worked fine on ours, but like I said, their forum is full of threads for people who didn't work for at all.

Too bad, would have liked the manual option. Oh well it not THAT big of a deal, they do mostly work and it is usually convenient, they just get a little overzealous sometimes. Interested about the rainX idea if that improves the sensing ability.
