If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Would there be any interest in a diesel Genesis?

Hyundai is just about to launch the diesel Grandeur/Azera in Korea and the new FWD luxury AG (the ES competitor, or maybe even XTS/RLX/MKS depending on how luxurious Hyundai made it, albeit w/o AWD option) and even the new Sonata is getting a diesel powerplant.

This is due to the rising popularity of diesels in Korea due to the Europeans and the pressure they have been putting on Hyundai and Kia in their home market.

Chances are, Hyundai will do the same for the Genesis, esp. if they are serious in being more than a footnote for luxury sales in Europe.

Unlike FWD models like the ES and MKZ, RWD luxury hybrids have been a total flop in the US market (Lexus sells something like 30-40 of the hybrid GS a month and maybe 10 of the LS; can't imagine Infiniti selling more than 10 per month of the M/Q70 hybrid based on overall sales) - whereas diesel powered luxury sedans have carved out a respectable share of the luxury market.

On an ancillary note - anyone thinking of getting the V6 K900 over the new 3.8 or 5.0 Genesis?

Not going to be as flat around the bends as the new Genesis but for those looking more for comfort/luxury - has a more luxurious interior.

Tangent I know, but is the K900 based off the old or the new Genesis platform? I've seen some speculation that it was the old one, but I didn't know if that had been confirmed.

^^ Thanks.

While too early to get a firm picture, if Equus and 5.0 K900 sales remain about there they are, it would mean that the 5.0 K900 hasn't really hurt Equus sales and that the 5.0 K900 has mostly added new buyers to the 5.0/Equus platform.

Will certainly be interesting to see how the 5.0 K900 and even the new 5.0 Genesis impact Equus sales down the road.

Inadvertently answered it in the prior post - shares platform w/ the Equus, so both should get similar upgrades in handling (less body roll) w/ the next gen models.

Also, I would expect that while the 3G Equus has improved handling, that the 2G K900 will differentiate itself a bit more and be more on the sportier side of flagship sedans (granted, which isn't saying much bar the Panamera); being a bit smaller helps in that dept. as well.

As for the new Genesis platform, while Kia bigwigs are still saying that the GT concept is still under review for production, reading the tea leaves, I think it's safe to say that we'll see the GT go into production giving Kia a 2 RWD luxury sedan lineup.

In that case, the GT will probably be based on the Genesis platform tho it will be a bit smaller - which would be more conducive to being a sports sedan.

The other option is to use the shortened Genesis platform that will underpin Hyundai's upcoming RWD compact sedan, the RK, but in this case, would be larger.

If the new Hyundai coupe (based on the HND-9 concept) and the GT are close to their concept forms (the GT just needs its front end redone a bit), I would have a hard time choosing btwn the 2.

Diesel would be a nice option so long as the MPG increase is significant (35+MPG HWY and at least 25 city), I'd be sold on it. Diesel engines produce more torque typically and that would give us better 0-60 times, it also has to remain RWD/AWD....FWD only isn't an option for this car IMO.

The MB E series bluetec actually beat out the Prius in a 400 mile drive. Gets 45+ MPG. Interesting read. http://www.roadandtrack.com/feature...fuel-efficient-car-in-america-is-a-luxury-car

Awesome thread I'd consider a diesel if properly executed. A huge increase in MPG is a plus.

A8 diesel below - 867 miles on one tank with full gear and 2 passengers and AWD!

Good read, thanks. The Benz doesn't produce much HP (195) but torque output of 369 lb/ft. @ 1600-1800RPM is quite impressive for a 2.1L 4 Cylinder TT, it's actually producing almost as much torque as the V8 at a fraction of the RPM's (5000) but 225 HP less....go figure.

Impressive for sure but the price is insanely higher comparably equipped...almost $85k but not the same class of car. I really wish our Genny had Google Maps, so much better than our current Navi offerings.

Yup the example I linked is pricey......Shows the diesel technology potential though. Hoping Americans can accept diesel someday, since many other countries have for decades already.

Strangely enough, the diesel version of the MB E class is the cheapest E available. Definitely a first as diesel power has always been a substantial extra.
