Appreciate the insight. I've been reading warranty concerns across the Hyundai and Genesis brands. It seems they don't stand behind their warranty or they find ways to say the issue isn't covered which concerns me. Lexus has been incredible even with their "aftermarket" factory-backed warranty. Doesn't sound like Genesis does the same. Genesis also charges an insane amount for their warranty which doesn't exude confidence from the brand.
I'm an old soul and love the comfort of a V8 flagship sedan. The only somewhat modern choices are the G90, 750I, A8 and the S-class. I will likely just have to settle for the LS500 with the V6 since I know Lexus stands behind their products. It's sad we have so few options to choose from. I do give Genesis props for continuing to offer a true flagship product (minus the V8). They might get a slight sales bump since Lexus will cease production of the LS after 2026.
If you are looking used - consider buying from Carmax if going the 1st gen G90 route. Their warrantees are quite solid while also being very liberal as to how the repairs are conducted, and I have never heard of someone not being happy with the warranty when needing to use it from Carmax.
A year ago my nephew bought an 18 G90 from them which had originated in Indy, and it had a constant drift issue even after alignments,
tires and some suspension components. (all replaced under warranty). They even sent it to a body shop with a frame alignment rig and between some tweaking there and 2 more trips to 2 different Genesis dealers (all under/by Carmax) they finally got it licked. Practically the entire front suspension soup to nuts was replaced, the frame tweak, and all of the left rear suspension and 2 full sets of
tires (nice Yokohamas for the 2nd set).
As it took a few weeks on and off to nail it down - on manhours alone Carmax lost their ass on the warranty - nevermind the parts and machine time. But they didn't balk - not even once. The service manager was insistent on resolving the issue and taking care of the customer, which likely earned them a customer for life. I have heard of this level of dedication (though not this level of problem, as they usually source their cars rather carefully) about Carmax from others who have purchased there. If there is an issue their own shop cannot resolve or if you are too far from one of their stores to get them to do the repair - they do not bat an eye before sending it out or greenlighting you to do so.
So - if you have a Carmax nearby, give it some consideration. Then shop for your G90 on their website, have it shipped over if it isn't close-ish - tack on the higher mileage warranty (which can cost a few bucks more than a fly-by-night 3rd party) and enjoy the ride. Stay on top of your maintenance and you are good to go.
