  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Would you pay $500 for lifetime oil changes from the dealer?

A dealer i plan to purchase a genesis from has a "Lifetime Buyer Protection" plan. It includes various options and one of which is free lifetime oil changes as long as i own the vehicle. I change my own oil in my current vehicles and use Mobile 1 synthetic. I prefer to run synthetic and will look into what type of oil the dealer uses but $500 for lifetime oil changes seems pretty good. Any thought on this?

Sorry i should have added that we plan to keep the car for as long as we can (10+ years) assuming all runs well and will probbly put about 10,000 miles a year on the vehicle.

I guess it depends on your life expectancy, and how "lifetime" is defined in the fine print. At my age I no longer buy green bananas, and I doubt if I'd get my $500 worth of oil changes, but YMMV.

Yes if it includes filter, oil and labor every 7500 miles. I say this because we put 36000 miles a year on the Genny and keep cars to about 230,000 miles. If I was a normal mileage driver then no.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
As you stated, will they use synthetic or regular oil? If they use regular, no!

This. Once you go full synthetic you'll never go back, baby!

Since synthetic is not required by Hyundai, then synthetic is not included in the dealer's offer. I would bet money that even if they offered you a "synthetic" upgrade, they would not always put synthetic in your engine.

Hell no! Especially when you can negotiate FREE oil changes for 1-2 years.
14 oil changes amounts to about $500 and at 7500 intervals- you'll have about 105,000 miles on the clock. Do you really wanna pay up front?

No, there is no reason to pay upfront. Do the oil changes yourself, it's not that hard, you control the variables and you know it's done correctly. Oh and it's also cheaper.

My dealership includes free oil and filter changes for life for free with the purchase of the car. the first one at 3000 miles and every 6000 after that.

I got free lifetime oil change on my Pontiac G6 in '06 and when it's time, all I DO pay is pull in, they read the vin and I'm done.

The dealership offering the free oil changes is Glendora Hyundai. They also offered the best purchase price by far.

Question! What happens if and when the dealership either goes out of business, or is sold? In my area, we had a dealership who advertised that you would get "free" tires for life. Well------------- the dealership got sold, and the new owners would not go by the deal of the previous owners.

Also, that previous owner had "provisions" in their free tires thing. You had to get an alignment every 5000 miles. (in the small print). My buddy who bought a car from them, when he read the small print, told them to stick it where the sun don't shine. Was not long after that, that the dealership got sold and the local newspapers picked up the stories of all the car owners who were "screwed" out of their tires for life. Worse if the dealership goes belly up.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. :welcome:

That is a possibility with any dealership. It happened with my Acura about a year and a half after I bought it. However having free oil changes was not the reason I bought either vehicle. This dealership never mentioned it until the wrap up was taking place. As they are located 35 miles away I doubt I will go there anyway. I do agree that one should never prepay for services.

Well, not including tax and disposal fees, you can get most oil changes done for $20. Take that $500 and divide it by $20 and you get 25 oil changes (again, the number would be less if you include tax and disposal fees). Since they probably use dino or non-synthetic oil, you can go 5K (assuming they use Hyundai filters, which more than likely they will), so 5K x 25 = 125,000 miles. I would not prepay the $500. Many dealers are offering it substantially less or even free....
