  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Experiencing some peeling on piece of trim on front bumper. Out of warranty so have a choice to have bumper cover dropped and have piece replaced or wrap both pieces. Cost is $200 for both. Shop suggested carbon fiber wrap but i prefer to get as close to the Himalayan Gray of the car. Anyone have any experience, particularly with this color, on selection of an available wrap color?

You can still get those on eBay. I just got both sides and center strip for mine and cost was under $200 for all of them (All OE factory parts). Just make sure the part numbers you get end in -G9020 for the "Dark Chrome" color. I plan on pulling my front bumper today after work so I'll report back on how hard they are to change.

Just for reference, the part numbers are as follows:

86563-G9020 - Driver Side
86564-G9020 - Passenger Side
86566-G9020 - Center

Thanks. May go that route. Unfortunately, dropping the bumper cover is not something I can do so would have to get quote from shop.

Taking the bumper cover off is really an easy thing to do. With nothing more than general hand tools and a good set of instructions, it can be done in less than 10 minutes.

Likely but no so much for me. I did just order that piece of trim on Ebay as you suggested. Will go to body shop after it arrives and get them to install. Hoping for maybe $200 which is what the detail shop wanted to wrap both right and left pieces.

That will work as well. Glad you're able to get a new one and don't have to change the whole look of the front end!

IMO if you can avoid carbon fiber that's a good thing! I think it looks just fine on a Ferrari, not so much on a sub $50k car.

My thoughts exactly and that is what the detail shop wanted to do. No go for me so going traditional route. Replace the piece of moulding..

So, bumper removal is extremely easy on these cars... I had it off in less than 5 minutes. However, replacing those trim pieces was an absolute nightmare! I ended up having to disassemble most of the inner bumper to get these off, but it made a huge difference in the look of the front of the car. Also replaced the front emblem while I had everything apart since it had some rock chips in it.

Hmm Shop just quoted me $150 to remove and reinstall with trim piece on one side. I may be in for an unpleasant surprise. How long did it take you get each of those trim pieces installed?

If they'll do it for $150, let them! It probably took about 2 hours total to get it done. It's just the fact that there is so much on the inside of the bumper that has to come off to gain access to the tabs that hold the trim in. It is not an easy "snap-off, snap-on" installation.

They did say 2 hours for the job so will see. Getting done a week from tomorrow. Labor charge is $55/hour. Fairly reasonable.

That is very reasonable. Let us know how it turns out...

Quick question for you. There is a rubber "weather strip" right along the bottom of the front of bumper cover that on my car, have 3-4 inches on one end hanging down. Likely from getting hung up on one of those curb stops. Does this strip stay intact when the front bumper cover is removed and if so I plan to use some rubber adhesive to put it back into place before car goes to shop.

I'm not sure I know which piece you're referring to here. My car doesn't have any kind of rubber at the bottom of the bumper. There is a black plastic trim piece at the lower edge that should be snapped all the way into the bumper cover.

Are you talking about this part? If so, it likely needs to be replaced as well since it is held in with the same kind of clips as the trim pieces. Here's one on eBay for less than $35. Lip Assembly - Front Bumper

Yes the black rubber strip that is at very bottom

If it won't stay when you push it back in the slot, it needs to be replaced. You can see in this picture that the clips are slightly compromised and may not hold on correctly.
