  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

XM "free" period finally ended

Just received a renewal notice from XM...$159 for a year, this after paying $80 for the past year!

The trial Sirius subscription on my Audi is expiring next week. I called them today and they wouldn't budge on the $142 renewal price. I mentioned I had heard of a $77 rate but they waffled and said I didn't qualify, without telling me what it took to qualify. I'll just let it expire and see what offers show up in the mail.

Re: XM rates

Okay- it's been a while since anyone's posted the latest XM deals available. When I signed up after the free period, I got the $77 rate that became $94 after their royalty, etc. taxes. Now I see on the VW forums that people are being offered "$21.95 total for 5 months" and another member said he was declined the $77 offer and hung up. He was called back later and offered $29.94 plus fees totaling $35.17 for 6 months. He also was told the $35 subscription is renewable. what have you guys been running into?

I can't say. I've been an XM customer since inception...so now that it's XM-SIRIUS, for us it was just another radio on the account. I'll check.

I received 3 months free with the Genesis I bought Monday. I just called XM to cancel the balance on my Infiniti trade in. I told them to either apply the time remaining at the end of the 3 months, or send me a refund check. They offered to apply the remaining funds to an additional 6 months (after the trial ends) for $25. I accepted, and did not give them CC info; rather send me a paper statement via snail mail.

I have been down this road many times with XM. I have found that when you get the 6 months for $25, call right before it ends and cancel. Depending on who you talk to (its like the lottery), you can sometimes get the offer again. If they don't give you that offer, and you state "its just too much money right now", they will usually give you 2 or 3 months free to think about it.

If they don't, go ahead and cancel. Like clockwork, they will send you emails. The best offer is just after a month has went by. It is the "we want you back" email offer of $25 for 6 months.

As others have stated: NEVER give them CC info; always get a paper statement.

It takes a little time to work it this way, and is really stupid to be honest. If XM was $4.99 a month, I would be in for the long haul. At $14.95, there is no way.

Just my experiences, hope it helps someone. :)

I'm glad that they were still offering a lifetime package when I purchased mine. If you know your going to make good use of it then the $599 they charged at the time made it a great deal IMO. The lifetime subscription is good for a total of 3 vehicles, they charge $75 to transfer it to the new car each time.

I found out the hard way that the transfer applies to non-oem head units. That would be their Starmate, Stiletto and other PORTABLE units. I bought a lifetime for my 09 Jetta that I traded in for the Genesis. I was told they wouldn't transfer but if I wanted- they would shut off Sirius in the new owners Jetta. No thanks.

Interesting, in my contract with them it clearly states the opposite. It says that it must be a factory installed radio with XM/Sirius built in, not aftermarket or portable. I had them transfer it from my Azera to my Genesis, all they wanted was the new radio ID# that the service needed to be moved to and a $75 payment. I don't know if they changed their policy on this, but they are obligated to the original "sales agreement" as I purchased it...the contract is filed in with the rest of my paperwork for the vehicle.

Re: renewal

WOW-a nice person at Sirius/XM! I called to do a preemptive cancellation of my Genesis subscription which ends in 2 weeks. I told "Daisy" that I wanted to cancel because it costs too much. She asked if $60 for 1 year- total including fees and taxes would be okay. I said "sure." After that- she noticed that I had another radio subscription ending in December and she would give me the same deal on that radio too. Then I asked if I had the right phone number (JUST KIDDING). It's so nice to finally feel good after hanging up with Sirius/XM! lol:eek:
