  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

FYI - For anyone interested

The reason why only half of my channels are coming in is because XM is giving every radio a free 50 channels until June 7th. (My subscription must have run out on the day they started this promotion)

So if you don't have an XM account and want to give it a try, turn your radio on and start listening! Almost all the good channels are missing because of content issues. I think they are only giving channels that have absolutely no content issues.... even most of the rock channels are missing because of language.

Anyways.... its FREE!!!

OH!!!! And could someone without a subscription that is getting the free trial please tell me if their NAVTraffic is working? My NavTraffic is working, but I don't think it is suppose to.

Ashdump:
My XM expired on FEB 1 2010 and all of a sudden I have NAV traffic (Houston) and I have not resumed service so you may be correct that they are giving free content out. I never had seen the green and yellow lines even when the XM was current. I still think the GENESIS has less than stellar NAV traffic. My wife has a 2010 M35 and hers will announce delays and congestion up ahead. Unless I'm missing something the Genesis does not provide for this feature. Her's is pretty slick. From what I know for the Genesis you need to press the DIS and than get to the NAV traffic menu and see what is ahead. I have not checked for any radio stations but I will today and report back.

Thanks Fiat - I do know for a fact the XM Traffic does announce congestion and accidents but you might need to have a route in place for it to announce. I don't think it will announce if your just driving your daily route and didn't put coordinates in. I'm not 100% sure about that though.

XM traffic is only as good as the information reported by the local governments to the "Traffic Headquarters".

Let me know about your music. I guess they are giving traffic and music for built in devices.

I was also wondering why the XM traffic starting appearing! (I let my XM subscription expire)

When I had it before it would only announce the traffic conditions when you had a route entered in.

It is nice having the XM traffic on the map, but I would rather just look on my iPhone for the traffic info instead of paying for xm traffic.

I wish they would make the car's navigation systems like google maps on the iphone, (the info comes from the internet) no more map updates we have to pay for!

OK- so it appears that everyone is getting their NavTraffic.

I thought maybe I was special...:(

Well, once my free trial ends I guess I have something to look forward to keeping!

Thanks for the info! I thought I too hit the MegaMillions jackpot of XM radio--free service and nav traffic to boot! Oh well...only a few more hours of free stuff left, back to my ipod music.:)

Also note that the "Traffic" icon on the upper left corner of the screen, with the small construction/accident/etc icons on the screen are not always on the screen at the same time as the Green/Yellow/Red traffic lines on the screen. You can have one, or the other, or both.

On my recent trip to Rochester, there were places without both of them. In other places, just the Traffic icons, but in still other places, just the Green/Yellow/Red traffic lines. (Note; G/Y/R traffic lines only work on the 4 mile scale or less).

Just as was said before, it all depends on the States informing XM of the road conditions. The R/Y/G worked in New York only on the Interstates. Did not work at all in Pennsylvania or South Carolina. "Sometimes worked in other States, but as soon as I got to Florida, even secondary roads have the R/Y/G.

I had already contacted XM Canada and told them I will not subscribe to XM until they offer the CBC. Yet here they were again making 50 channels available and offering me a discounted rate. So I emailed Michael Moskowitz, President and CEO of XM Canada and told him I would not subscribe until they made available these and other channels already offered by Sirius Canada: CBC Radio One, the Canadian Weather Network, Iceberg, CBC Radio 3, Radio Canada International. He replied today they could not offer these channels due to contractual limitations. So that's it. It seems ridiculous to me to offer Canadians US, BBC and Asian channels but not our own most important domestic channels.

I listen to ICEBERG every once in a while..... to change it up a bit.

Ok
The free trial is up and now as before when I let XM expire my voice mode buttons are not working.
I'm getting the please wait message.
I am now sure that the XM turning off is the problem with most of the head units having problems. After XM shuts off it takes several days to reset the head unit. Almost like a computer checking for a program that is missing.

Anyone else having problems after the free trial?

I'm supposed to be under my 3 month trial yet, but I lost navigation information after the XM wide trial ended. I had XM resend the activation code and it started working again. I have not seen the voice command issue yet.

I have had problems with my navigation unit.

When I purchased my 4.6 Genesis with Tech package it included 1 year of XM for free. As long as my XM subscription was active, I had no problems with any of the NAVI features. At some point this winter, I started having problems with my voice command feature.

Sometimes I would press the button to give a command, and it wouldn't respond at all. Other times it would pause for a long time, tell me to wait, and then, 10-15 seconds later give me a beep. It would take the command, but the radio wouldn't come back for 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes. Sometimes the whole system would hang up, none of the buttons working at all on the system until I stopped and restarted the engine.

I took it to the shop, where they did their best, but could find nothing. It seemed a little ridiculous to make a big deal about this minor feature, so I just live with it, but it grated on me. The nav/av system for this car cost me $4000, I thought it should work flawlessly.

A few weeks ago, XM offered a free week of access and when my XM service reactivated, everything worked again! Woo-hoo! No delays in voice commands, no hang ups everything was perfect. When the week ended, and the delays and system hangs came back, I gave serious thought to subscribing to XM on one of their resubscribe offers, just to get my navigation working 100% again.

Then, last week my dealership called me up to offer me a free "Navigation Upgrade". They told me it was updating my maps, but it's on a series of 4 DVDs and the update takes hours. Clearly, it's more than simply maps. When I got the car back yesterday, the NAVI operated perfectly, with no lag. f you are having problems with your Navigation system, call your dealership and ask if your car is eligible for Campaign #P06, it fixed my problems.

Here is the link to the PDF for Campaign #P06:
