  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just signed up for the XM Lifetime Subscription. This was for my 2011 Genesis. This is not advertised on their website at all. You have to call and ask them about it.

It is about $576 for the Lifetime of your Genesis. This is transferable to the next owner as well. This does not include Nav Traffic.

This is an OK deal if you listen to XM and plan on keeping your car 8 years as I do. You save hundreds of dollars instead of paying monthly

You should only hope that XM's lifetime is as long as yours...

You are correct that XM may not survive.

That being said Satellite radio will survive and any company that enters the satellite radio business will honor previous contracts. I don't care whether my satellite radio is XM, YM or ZM.

my one year free subscription ends in January, im hoping I can get a better deal. anyone have any suggestions?

If you are planning on keeping the car for another 5 years or so, the lifetime subscription will be the cheapest.

1.) Go to their website and see if you can see the lifetime subscription. It may be cheaper on a renewal than it is for a new car.

2.) If you cannot see the Lifetime on the Web, call them and ask them what it costs. I just signed my Genesis up and it was $576 Lifetime. - However on my Lexus the Lifetime Renewal was only $400. That was after I paid for it for 3 years already, so the Lifetime may have been cheaper.

All of these prices that I quote are without Nav Traffic. --- which of course would cost more.

I think they raise the price as time goes by. On 4/14/09 I paid $446.66 (incl taxes) for a lifetime subrcription on my portable XM radio. That was the renewal of the 3 year contract I had previously (since the radio was new). It was not much more than the 3 year price, so I figured what the heck!!!!

Hmm.. I do plan on keeping my Genesis for 5-7 years. May have to look into this, any idea how much it is with traffic info?

My experience with XM traffic has been terrible (Wash DC Metro area). I get warnings of congestion either way too late to avoid it, or after I have already been trapped for 15 minutes. Totally useless. Since this feature is no good, and I don't listen to XM broadcasts in any case (I have a huge library of music on a 16GB thumb drive, and I listen to NPR on FM), I decided on day 1 that I wouldn't purchase after the 90 day free trial expires. I am now in month 7 of my 3 month free trial - I push the XM button from time to time just out of curiosity and it's still going strong.

I've always had Sirius in the past. Around Christmas time, they would always run a deal where you can get a lifetime subscription for < $400. Hopefully XM does something similar.

dg moore ----> thats a good point and i do that as well but with a 250Gig ssdrive

garddog32 --------> ill keep surfing and keep an eye out for those deals, thanks

I concur. It's unbelievable how bad it is.

Just listen to WTOP News Traffic & Weather on the 9's.

I bought mine in August, 2009 and the XM is still active here in October, 2010. Their bookkeeping system must not be very good.

I went on-line a couple of weeks ago to see what the cost of a lifetime XM everything subscription would be and it was advertised for $499. I decided to wait a couple of weeks as my trial subscription did not end until March 17th. I called up yesterday and today and the only price now offered is $699 a 40% increase!!!!! Although I complained bitterly and the representative did agree that the price two weeks ago was $499 he could not do anything about it. So I intend to cancel my subscription and see if any better offer comes along in the next couple of months. Does anyone know why they raised the price so much?

To make sure the checks to Howard Stern don't bounce.

I'm a second owner and don't know anything about satellite
radio. The previous owner apparently had some sort of
subscription because I'm still able to listen. My question is
how would I figure out what kind of subscription he had,
and when it runs out? I've had the car for just over a month
and thought it would run out by now.

You can get on XM website and look at your account. Every satellite radio has an ID number. I believe that you can see it by going to channel 00. Once you have your XM Radio ID, you can get on the account at XM. If the other user set up the account and has a password already, you may have to call XM to get access.

A bud of mine had the lifetime deal on his Beemer....had an offer he couldn't refuse and sold the car. He didn't cancel the sat-account...couldn't transfer it so he left it up and running. The new owner gets free sat-music (sweet selling point??) and he maintains the account...being able to purchase service for his new car now as "a second radio" on his master account. You my friend my just be in the drivers seat with free tunes!!
