  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am a long-time XM radio listener with two XM radios. I sold my 2004 Prius with an XM radio that had some time left on a multi-year prepaid subscription.

I bought my Genesis with the ONE YEAR FREE XM radio. :D The new owners of my Prius and old radio requested I continue my subscription briefly so they can sample XM. It seemed a reasonable request so I did so. ;)

After waiting four weeks, I called XM to "activate" my Genesis radio and transfer the unused subscription from the old radio to my Genesis radio. To my surprise, XM had already activated my Genesis radio!

Apparently, Hyundai activates the XM Radio for you. The clock could be ticking on your FREE one-year subscription whether you call XM or not.

Lastly, transferring my unused XM subscription from one radio to my Genesis XM radio was effortless. :):):)

So Bob, you've touched on something that I didn't understand from previous posts regarding initiating XM service. Do new Genesis owners need to contact XM to enable anything in particular?

I haven't fooled around with either the XM radio or the Traffic function much (the other DIS-related set-up functions are a higher priority to me), but they both appear to be working without any intervention on my part. Am I missing something?

The XM radio was already activated when I took delivery of the Genesis. There was no paperwork or discussion of the free subscription.

I just registered my car at www.xmradio.com so I can save favorite channels, listen online or do whatever else you do registering. Some of the reasons to register is to add additional subscriptions at a discount, pay your bill or purchase desktop receivers.

All I needed to do was tune to channel zero in the car and write down the user ID number that was displayed. When you create a new account you enter your ID and a billing zip code then create a user name and password.

The account came up in the name of Mr. VALUABLE CUSTOMER with the dealership's phone#. I changed these information fields to my own data. Checking the account details it correctly displays that I have a 12-month subscription.

It appears the XM radio is activated but the account name can be changed if you want that for the reasons simonwpb mentioned. What was different in my case was the radio was activated in my name already. Hyundai or the dealership used the sales contract name and address to activate the radio. :)
