  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

YES your Genesis can SELF DRIVE!!!

thanks - that's what I concluded more or less. For the added convenience that's likely higher than I wish to expend. I guess the only good part is that the main device could go from vehicle to vehicle, yes?

It IS an expensive convenience!

That said I really wanted the convenience, safety, and experience of a driver assisted vehicle. That said it is WAY cheaper to buy this than another car of any kind and really the only current competition to this unit is Tesla which is much more expensive and not suitable for me do to long distance driving. Don't get me wrong I think Tesla is great but just not for my use scenario yet.

Yes the device can move between vehicles. Of course that depends on what you buy next.

Ah, OP....it's a beautiful thing.

I recently drove from CA to TX with OP at the wheel (well, I was there to) and I can say that it was wonderful. I had 2 days of driving over 14 hours and I did not feel dead at the end of the day. Quite the contrary I could have kept on going, as long as OP was doing most of the work with me just monitoring.

Out on the interstate OP really shines. I just watch for construction zones (if they are marked well it can sometimes get through them), tire treads or other debris/potholes in the road, and the occasional driver that zips into my lane and slows down (OP can't fix the stock smart cruise control yet). All in all very competent.

I still find it hard to believe that a cell phone stuck on the windshield can do this.....

:)
Yes, what they have done is rather brilliant..., while still very reckless. It proves the point that this is VERY doable.

That said, how anyone can trust their cell phone to be in full control at 60MPH is just beyond me. OMG!

I would not put my life, or my family's lives, at risk so easily... A cell phone operating system (and hardware) plus open-source software as the basis. Gawd.... People.. a little rational judgement please? This is a proof of concept. It works! Yay. Dont kill yourselves over it.

It's not in full control and never is. If it was, you wouldn't be able to take control just by taking the wheel. In fact, it even uses the factory adaptive cruise since it can't control the gas and brakes. And ummm... you don't have to take your hands off the wheel. Keep holding it if you want and it'll work like a much better LKAS.

There's no smartphone OS on it, it's been replaced. Same open source Linux OS already runs most new cars today. It's the same thing, same ARM architecture, different packaging. Gas and brake by wire are already thing, there are cars with electronic steering and no steering column. You are risking your life and family's lives already by putting the controls in the hands of electronics. Soon, there will be no cars left where the controls are mechanically connected. Electronics are already doing the driving.

It's been made clear MANY times in this thread already, this is driver assist, NOT autonomous driving.

I'm considering buying the Comma Two.
Does anyone know what harness I need to buy for my 2019 G80 Ultimate 3.8?

I would think their customer service would know. They designed it.

REMEMBER: This system is not on a par with the Tesla. 🤣

It's better, it doesn't work if you're not watching the road. This situation would never happen with OP but the Tesla system was working as designed. This is a driver issue, not the car or Autopilot.

Are you saying that Tesla should allow/enable a driver to do this?

You said it was a “driver issue” which strongly implies that Tesla is blameless. I theeenk not.

Tesla's safeties defeated or ignored by the driver. Driver issue.

What specifically did the driver do to defeat Tesla’s system?

Not mentioned in the article but it's as easy as jamming a bottle of water in the steering wheel or hanging weights on it to make it think your hands are on the wheel. Companies sell clamp on weights specifically for this purpose.

Sounds like Tesla’s fault to me for advancing a system that is prone to easy defeat.

Would it be Hyundai's fault too? Because you can do the same thing with the Genesis lane keep. It's a 6 year old system on an 8 year old car. Technology wasn't available to track driver's attention. Hands on wheel was the standard method of driver monitoring for all manufacturers at the time. The cars with these systems work as they should.

I read that the steering wheel needs occasional driver input or it will go off but some put a weight on the wheel and it defeats it. Considering the accidents so far, seems fairly simple.

I look at a system like that as a safety factor should you doze off or get sick. If the driver seat was reclined, it surely was intentional. Tesla has to take some share of the blame making it too simple to bypass.

This logic brought to you by the attorney that sued McDonalds for their hot coffee spilling into the lady's lap.

It's the nut that holds the wheel... simples

Perhaps, but that woman is now much wealthier than me and maybe even better fixed than you. ????

I am getting nothing out of it except apparently a snide remark. The reason I joined was to post a file for someone else on another thread. Although I had planned on posting my good fortune with finding OP. I have nothing to sell and I don't get anything from you purchasing these items. Sometimes people just do the right thing. I have read through this forum on occasion which has helped me with my car and just want to give back.

Your welcome.
Don't worry about that guy, he is the resident snide remarker.
