  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good day, all--

I turned on my computer Sunday afternoon to see that this Forum had sent an automated greeting message to my personal email offering b-day greetings. I thought that was very nice. The previous week, however, wasn't as nice....

Late Sat. night (10/18), I went to bed and experienced some pains that later turned out to be a mild heart attack. The following Wednesday, I had quadruple bypass surgery, and am recuperating at home as of Friday night.

My message to all who would read this isn't to draw your pity (prayers are acceptable, however)--it's to pique your awareness of your diet, lifestyle, and family history. I would describe my diet as "average"--ate pretty well most of the time, but had the 'bad' stuff late, etc. My cholestrol was average, as was triglycerides, etc. I do not smoke--never have. I have a family history of heart-related issues. So many of us do. I would encourage all who read to take time to review these issues on their own or with their doctor. If you could experience the pain that I'm feeling now (and felt all last week), you would probably drop what you're doing temporarily, so that you don't have to drop it permanently.

Consider this good advice from someone who wouldn't wish this on his worst enemy!

Have a blessed day!

Dan :>)

First of all....a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Sorry to hear of your mis-adventure [not fun], but happy you seem to be recovering quickly. Two days from cutting to home, and then 3 more days to be back on the ol' laptop is great progress. I have many friends who have been through this particular issue, and its accompanying ups & downs. Not to worry, 90 days out is the magic day. No one seems to be able to quantify it, the sucker just takes 90 days to heal up and make you feel 100%.

On the bright side, when they clear you to resume limited activities, you can WAX the Genesis. :)

Dan,
One heck of a wake-up call. Glad to hear you came out OK. Thanks for the words of healthy advice... it could just as easily be me or any of us.

Glad to hear you're bouncing back fast, Dan. Since you're over the worst of it already, I can't resist giving you a little b-day crap...

Time to update your age on the ol' User CP...you ain't 45 no mo' (prolly feel more like 70 right about now)!! :p

Dan,

Speedy recovery! I'm sure you'll be back on the road soon!

Happy birthday, Dan! And thank you for the warning! I have a family history of cardiovascular issues - as well as my own.. I'm glad you're okay and I do appreciate the warning.....

On the bright side, when they clear you to resume limited activities, you can WAX the Genesis. :)

I think I heard my Gen crying last night....it hasn't been driven since the fateful night about 10 days ago....

Or maybe that was me crying...for the same reason!

Thanks to all for the well-wishes!

I haven't posted her in a while. I keep lurking though. Still keeping up with the Genesis even though I bought the M45.

I just wanted to tell Dan that I'm glad he's still here and hate to hear what he has gone through.

As a result of his post I am scheduling a checkup today!

Got your message....I'd say "thank you", but really, you should thank yourself!

Sorry to hear that you didn't by "Genesis"....but enjoy your M45 anyway!

Hi All--

A little follow up....

Today was a good day...I started back to work. The docs have said recovery progess is going exceptionally well, and they have cleared me to start driving (yes, my lovely GEN...she's been so alone outside all by herself...) and to go back to work, which I did today (Monday). I've started a 12-week (not 12-step!) cardiac rehab program, and have REALLY changed my diet. I've lost 30 lbs. since being at home for the last month, and the rehab guys say I'll lose even more under their program.

All told, I'm not sure recovery can go even better. Interesting note...docs all asked if I was suffering from depression. I started to tell them about not being able to drive my new Gen for a month....but I'm not certain that was what he really wanted to know!

I'm glad to be alive, and to enjoy this forum! Thanks to all!!!

All the best....always!

Dan :>)

PS: Progress was going so well that I went to see the Titans vs. Jets on Sunday...I'm a Titans fan.....now I understand why they asked about depression!

Great news, Dan. Welcome back.

I'd say I'm sorry about the Titans, 'cept I'm from Houston, and the whole Bud Adams thing . . . !!!

Glad to hear you're doing great!

Dan - so pleased to hear you're doing better!

Dan:

Sorry to hear about your "scare". Glad to hear you're doing so well. About 9 years ago, my kid brother went through what you've just experienced, . He was about the same age then as you are now and I'm glad to report that he's doing just fine all these years later. Both he and his wife are leading much more active lives now than they did prior to the incident and, I think they're having more fun too. Hope to hear from you when you are buying your third generation Genesis 10 years from now and having a great time doing it!

Best of luck.

Dan:

Glad the recovery is going so well! 30# in a month is huge. I did 30 last year and it took 6 months. Maybe we'll have to start a thread on "Dan's rehab diet" so, "others may prosper." Keep positive and keep working hard at this. You're falling behind on mods. :D

WOW....how could I have missed all this????

DAN! Your in my prayers! I am a very religious person and believe in the Awesome power of prayer! I wish you a speedy recovery and that the good Lord will be with you and your family as you work your way back to 100%. I cannot imagine what you have been through.

Also, Happy Birthday bud and its good to have you back online!

Matt

glad to hear that you are making a good recovery. I see everyday people who dont take care of themselves and then are surprised when something like this happens. It can even happen to someone such as yourself who has a healthy lifestyle other than the occasional snack. I think the key is diet, exercise, and regular checkups. I think it is better to prevent something before it happens than to treat it once it does.

Good to hear from you Dan, glad you are recovering well.

My mother had quadruple bypass surgery 11 years ago, and I helped her post-surgery. I know she was miserable those first few weeks! I think the surgery method has improved since then.

Matt--

Thanks for your thoughts...and your prayers. "Where one can send a thousand to flight, two can send 10,000 to flight...."

It's been tough, but God has been good.

Thanks again--

Part of my cardiac rehab is an education process that ranges from eating habits, cooking, lifestyle, meeting w/pharmacists, exercise physiologists, etc. I believe that technology has improved over that time, but I don't doubt that her quality of life has improved dramatically.

Thanks for your thoughts--

Dan
