Your '09 Genesis in '39 - A classic?

There's a Sonic drive-in near us that holds weekly rallies every Thursday night. It's very well attended, and the cars are absolutely beautiful. '64 Mustangs, early 'vettes, some Chargers... They also have nights where European classics are featured, and even Honda nights.

Do you think the '09 Genesis has staying power? Will folks in 2039 look at your car with the same sense of pride you have today?

Interesting...the only thing Sonic around here (East Tennessee) offers is greasy food and absolutely the WORST iced tea in the world!

As for the cars, mine probably won't be worth much 30 years from now. I take care of my cars, but I "use" them...they are tools. Most cars I've owned got sold/traded, etc. with over 200K miles on them--mostly nearly 300K miles. The two that didn't--the '07 Azera I traded on the Genesis, and the 1990 Nissan Maxima SE that was stolen--it only had about 110K miles on it.

I think those old cars have such a following these days because there are so few of them in existence.. The only way the Genesis is going to be as popular would be if there were hardly any left on the road.. Even then, cars these days are far more generic than they were years ago.

You're not talking about the Sonic at Morgantown, Pennsylvania, are you?

My wife passes that one on her commute, and they have a lineup of fabulous classic cars in the parking lot every Thursday night. We eat there sometimes just to watch the cars.

The food is pretty greasy, and about average for fast food. The only thing that (in my opinion) is really bad is the onion rings. They cook them in the same oil that they use for their fried pastry desserts, so the onion rings actually have a faint sweetness (????) in the taste. ugh.

I play golf in Elverson and sometimes run up there for a quick burger after the round.

Boy -those cars are SPECTACULAR!

If I could buy any new sedan right now, it would be a Genesis. But I can't afford anything, I have three kids in daycare.

IMHO, no. I don't think it will be a "classic" in the sense of a '69 Camaro Z28 convertible, or a 64 1/2 Mustang....(remember when the Mustangs got 'gelded'...are THOSE classics?)

well, I just had to toss in my 2 1/2 cents. I don't think the 2009 will be a 'classic' any more than I think the 2012 I have will be....

I believe the only way it can become a Classic is for them to stop making the Genny after only about 5 years production. Then it will be a 'curiosity' classic.

Here's an update on this thread...my '09 Genesis...I traded it about a month ago on a 2011 Genesis Coupe A/T Track. It's white...and really fun to drive. I spent the afternoon yesterday waxing it...now it looks awesome! Why did I trade, you ask? You may have read that East Tennesse (certain portions of it) got hammered last April by a weather front that included hail stones....I was in that storm path. My home--including roof, gutters and siding were damaged...but so was my beloved Genesis! I had paid it off a few months prior and was looking forward to driving it for years to come. But, the cue ball-sized hail stones had other ideas! My insurance carrier said over $10K in damages...and with all the needed body panel replacement and/or repair, it was a better decision in my opinion to replace it, which I did. So, is my old car a classic? Well, it's unique, for sure! And it's for sale! The dealership that I traded with is offering it as-is for about $16K...it has 63K miles on it, and is in otherwise excellent condition.

I like the cars...love the brand!

Hail damage often totals a car...usually it only takes golf ball-sized stones to dimple the tin on a car. I'm sure it will end up back on the road.....somewhere.
