Any Base V6's?

First off, let me wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

O.K.-
We've been comparison shopping vehicles for a while now. Our budget is ~$30k- which led us to look at used Lexus ES's and GS's (IS's are too small for our family). I also recently test-drove a new Genesis V6 Premium+ and was very impressed! Problem was at $36k+TTT it was ~$8k more than we wanted to spend.

Yes, I completely agree that the Genesis is a lot of car for the money- and $36k+TTT is a bargain. However, we have a strict budget to adhere to. Before someone suggests a lease- we are not in the habit of leasing vehicles- as we prefer to buy and drive (a lot) and we tend to keep our vehicles for years. We also finance our vehicles with the goal of having them paid off within 3-4yrs.

A base V6 seems like the right entry price for us. I figure since the base is not a popular choice that we may be able to haggle down into our pricepoint.

Honestly, on paper the base V6 Genesis has more than enough power and options to keep us happy- and I think we'd be content without a sunroof, 14 speakers, rear window shade, power steering wheel tilt, heated seats, etc.

None of the Hyundai dealers in our area carry base models to compare/contrast against the models with packages.

Does anyone have pictures of the interior of a base Genesis V6 that they can post? Any comments about or regrets over choosing a base V6 over the Premium packages? (for example, is the base stereo system really that bad?)

Don't forget the interior pics!
Thanks in advance.

I paid 30,954 for a premium v6 that listed for just under 36.

Keep looking and you may find one with premium as a loss leader or something.
that's what mine was.
dealer was advertising $4500 off and I went down there thinking it would be a stinky color combination, or some other gimmick, but it was black with beige. Gorgeous car.
good luck

Wow thats a STEAL!

I just saw an ad in the NYC paper for a base Genesis V6 with a MSRP at $36,000 for sale at $31,000 which isn't bad...

$36k, that would be the premium package.

Wow, amazing deals guys! I wish my local dealers would budge on price.

But since they won't (trust me, I've tried)- could we please bring this blog back on topic?

Here's what the base V6 comes with:
7 speaker audio system (is this a good enough system?)
ABS-ESC-TSC
Cruise Control
F&R side/curtain airbags
Homelink, Bluetooth
Proximity entry system
Leather-wrapped steering wheel
Fog lights

The Premium Package adds:
14-speaker audio (how much better than stock is this?)
Leather dash & door trim (is this really nicer than the base?--pictures of base V6 please!)
Sunroof
Pwr tilt steering wheel (really, how often do I need to use this?)
memory system (again- how often do I need this feature?)
rain sensing wipers (O.K.- I'm perfectly capable of turning on my wipers!)
auto defog windscreen (As well as switching on the defogger when I need to!)
power rear sunshade (I plan on mildly tinting the windows anyway- what's the point?)

Premium Plus adds:
everything mentioned in Premium + 18 wheels (much heavier- and I plan to go with lighter aftermarket wheels down the road)

Until my local dealers are ready to deal (and/or Hyundai starts offering big rebates/incentives on the Genesis), can anyone post pictures of the interior of a base Genesis V6? How about a couple of the exterior with stock 17" wheels as well, please.

Also, comments about or regrets over choosing a base V6 over the Premium packages are welcome. (for example, is the base stereo system really that bad?)

I'm really trying to justify the purchase and want to make a well-informed decision.
Thanks in advance.

D H, I haven't even ever seen a Genny with only the base.
Does your dealer have one is stock now that you could go see?

I too plan on lighter wheels and the P-Plus with 18"s was not for me.
However, that dash and Lexicon are worth it for me. Plus once you have the auto defogging along with the rain sensing wipers, it's one of those things you thought you would never want/need, but it would be missed for sure.

Keep looking and maybe you can find a Premium loss leader for 30k like mine.
I just haven't seen a base anywhere?

No, that's the point of my post- I want to see a base and/or talk to owners to compare/contrast it with the package versions as my local dealers don't carry base V6's. They say they can get one- but none have them in stock.

Thanks for your input on the Lexicon, defogger, and wipers.

If anyone has a base (or has seen one)- please chime in.

There are no loss leaders offered around here. I may just have to wait until this "new model novelty" wears off. I refuse to pay more than invoice when the majority of car dealers are desperate for sales. The local Chevy, Honda and Toyota dealers practically tackled me when I tried to leave their lot.

However, I also rather not wait too long- but I suppose if I'm patient enough I may be able to get an off-lease Genesis V6 sometime late next year.

Patience.

I own a base V6, Sapphire Blue/Black Interior. It sounds like my situation was very similar to yours, very strict budget, keep cars a long time and drive a lot. Was originally looking at cars like Accords, Camrys, Altimas but stopped by the Hyundai dealer to drive the Azera and wasn't impressed. Dealer talked me into driving the Genesis and really liked it but was getting ready to walk because it was simply out of the budget. Just about out the door when they asked if I would consider the Genesis if they could get the base price into the same range as a Azera Limited. Obviously they succeeded since I'm now a Genesis owner.

I don't really care about the Nav systems, or sunroof and don't miss those at all, and, seeing that my previous two vehicles have been small pickup trucks, I didn't think the sound system was a big deal. Well, that's the one thing I really miss. I really don't listen to much music, mostly sports talk radio, but even that doesn't sound very good on the base sound system, and then, the few times that I do listen to music, I find the sound system to be very disappointing, in some ways sounding even worse than my 2000 Ford Ranger XLT stock system. Actually, it might not be that bad, but just about any bass causes annoying vibrations in the doors. I'm hoping that maybe I can add some support to the doors to help with the vibration, but almost every time I listen to music I wish I had found a couple thousand dollars for the premium package.

Still, it's a minor problem for a car that has very few shortcomings. I've discovered a few problems with the ride quality on some road surfaces, but overall, after 3 months, and 8,500 miles, I'm not sure that I could have found and other vehicle that would offer so much comfort for as little as I paid (a reasonable amount less than my $30K limit). After some tuning and adjustment I've even learned to live with the sound system and I'm hoping to find a way to dampen the door vibrations from the front speakers. If not, perhaps I'll look at an aftermarket upgrade in the future.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Later,
Tom

Tom, have you had the dealer look at your vibration problem? It sounds like an easy to fix problem. My new Corvette had the same problem that was fixed under warranty in less than half an hour.

DH-
You've pretty much discounted your needs for the features added by the $2000 Premium package, so, if you can find one, you 'll probably be fine with the base. I did sit in one and remember I much preferred the leather dash in the Premium to the wood trim in the Base. To me, it was unique and very "classy". You would have to SEE IT to make a decison as it is just a matter of persoanl taste.

@Sandy- Thanks for your input. Yes, I'm strongly leaning towards a base- but can't seem to find one locally.

@ ttsig- or any Base V6 owner for that matter-

Would you please post some pics of your car- interior + exterior? I'd like to see your 17" wheels and the "wood" interior. I imagine the Genesis uses "pl-wood": plastic-wood?

Thanks in advance.

And an exterior:

They're not particularly good pics, but might give you an idea. I'll try to get some better ones soon.

Certainly the wood is plastic. I really don't like the "plastic wood" look, but it's become very common in modern cars so I guess I've become used to it. Interestingly, neither myself or my wife were very impressed with the leather dash, particularly the burgundy leather they used to contrast with the black interior (we thought other interior colors looked OK with the leather). Since, in the end, we didn't like either option very much, I decided to just save the $2000 and live base. It's such an upgrade from my previous vehicle it still feels "luxury" to me.

Later,
Tom

Gold Z -- Nope, haven't taken it to the dealer for the speaker vibration, but do plan to. I'm hoping that maybe they can do something. I read in one of the reviews that Hyundai actually included extra metal in the doors to dampen vibrations for the Lexicon systems so I'm suspecting that this was a known issue that they just ignored for those of us who only purchased the base model, but maybe they can do something.

Thanks,
Tom

Finally- real pics!

@ ttsig-
Thank you very much. The interior looks nice to me. Then again, the Genesis is a substantial step up from my current ride. Keep us posted on the stereo issue. The wheels aren't as nice as the 18" version- but, I almost always go with lighter after-market wheels anyway.

I just got back from sitting in a Premium Plus package Genesis. I was trying to see if the stereo system was really "all that." It sounds great- but I would like to compare to a base stereo to make up my mind.

When (if ever) will my local dealers get a base V6?

Thanks again!
