  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Complimentary GPS update from Hyundai Assurance

I wish I could get a free upgrade. Any tricks to request one? I am still on one of the first versions.

Waited 2 days for a call back from Hyundai customer service no go so I called them back. A gentleman named Steve answered my call back and was more knowledgeable about the problem then the first person. He told me what the dealer had installed was version 6 and said that version 7 had just come out in Oct. Apparently the dealer did not have the latest version. I don’t think they even knew that. So I’m again waiting for a call back after the dealer is told they don’t have the latest version.

Problem resolved Hyundai customer service assured dealer they were using wrong update software. Dealer ordered and installed proper update. GPS now reads 12.09.04. No data lost. This is no reflection on the dealer really they’ve always done very good neat work for me but if Hyundai customer care service didn’t get involved I feel it wouldn’t have been resolved.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I've been following this thread because even my '13 doesn't have some road information that is over a year old. I keep hearing that there are no updates for 2013's yet. What comes up is:

BH.USA.SOP.20121115.014

Obviously these versions appear to be date related. Does anyone else have this or a later version?

Depends on what model year you have. The 2011's were released into the market with 2+ year old maps, which caused an uproar and rash of complaints. So HMA decided to dish out free updates to those customers who complained. I'm pretty sure the freebies were only for that narrow band of customers.

One of the design flaws of the Genny is the inane process to update the head unit software. It's not modular where you can update just the Nav maps, or apply an ECU/TCU patch.

It's an all or nothing proposition. Takes hours and is susceptible to bricking, and HMA will not cover dealer errors if they brick the head unit - second design error: no factory reset switch and ROM chip inside the head unit. So you can certainly bet a few dead presidents that most dealers don't rush to risk a $3k mistake.

So to get that freebie update, you a) need to have the right MY car, and b) you need to be politely persistent and work through the dealer to get to HMA customer care.

Not in my case: I never contacted HMA about getting a nav map update. However, now that it's been made available to people with certain MYs, it should be easier for someone who wasn't offered a free update to obtain one.

Waveman is correct. I never complained either nor asked for an update. Also I purchased my car , a 2011, in September of 2010 and it had April 2010 maps.

After having the complimentary upgrade to my 2011 4.6 tech package (no touch screen - center knob controller) I finallyhad a chance to see how it worked in geographic areas where my previous version was lacking. My trip took me through DC where there are new highways that were not on the original nav version I had. The new upgrade has those listed now and tracks successfully on those roads. No gliches or crashes in the month or so since I received the upgrade. As pointed out earlier, I received an unsolicited card from Hyundai. The upgrade was performed very professionally at Long Island City Hyundai (which I have found to always deliver excellent service on both my previous 2006 Azera and my 2011 Genesis).

Our update, so far, as amounted to a complimentary one - I rec'd my $200 coupon for Hyundai Service for our dealer in Sierra Vista. I applied it, and was told, because it was well after closing time at the dealer's, that their system was shut down and I would be unable to pay them that night. We also loaded the Genny onto a U-Haul trailer and left the next day to tow it here to OH. But as we left, the Service Manager said he'd call me to square up the account. He'd told me that the update cost would come to about $250, and he'd call me so I could pay them the rest. So far I left him one message a few days ago, before we took the car to Ricart here in Columbus to get the 'burning rubber smell' diagnosed, and they have not called me back. So I'm guessing that it was a complimentary update...

Mine is scheduled for this Tuesday -- along with my audio system that once again went totally soundless.

My car is a 2009 Genesis 4.6. A large area of my neighborhood was expanded in 2011 with a new entrance built to our adult community. My old nav, of course, insisted upon sending me to the old, single entrance when taking me "home".

Earlier this year my Lexicon tape deck failed (sort of my fault). The warranty on this was only for three years but I bought an extended warranty (against my better instincts). The Lexicon unit was entirely replaced and it came back with fully updated navigation maps, including the new portions of our neighborhood. All free. Pretty good deal. I have almost paid for that extended warranty in repair savings already.

Hey, gimme a break "homeofstone". I'm about to turn 80. They're all still tape decks to me. I least I didn't call it an 8-track. And I do play MP3's on my tape deck too.

I get it. My wife had to get our 11 year old grand daughter to teach us how to use my wife's new Iphone .

I have a 2009 Genesis Sedan 3.8. Have no problems at all with vehicle other than a recall to drain and replace all brake fluid and change a speed sensor. I am quite disappointed in the GPS screen which is unreadable any time the sun is out. At night the screen is too bright even when set to night mode. Setting screen to auto-mode does nothing to improve the visibilty.I'M HOPING OTHERS CAN REPORT THIS PROBLEM AND PERHAPS HYUNDAI WILL MAKE A SHIELD OR SOME THING TO CORRECT THIS BAD DESIGN.I am wondering if the 2011 12 13 have this same problem.

I have a 2010 with a 2009 map version. I have been in contact with the navi people feeding them map errors as I find them. They have said in passing that there will be an October 2014 update with the errors corrected so it looks like they do an map update every two years. I just wish they would use the same road abbreviations as Google maps. Otherwise, my head my explode. <G>

Anyone know if the new updates for flash firmware on DIS and also MAV updates came out this fall with maps current to this fall? I had mine done back in June.. NAV update was way old by then. It did help a bunch. However, would get this done again if there are promised updates now.

My dealer knows how to flash the DIS and NAV updates without bricking anything. So, no fear at this point getting new as soon as it is out.

I've been using the 'new' update now for a few weeks. The NAV still SUCKS. My home was built in 1993. We just purchased it in May. It does not exist on this sucky NAV unit. I'm finding businesses that have been around for years don't exist in this sucky NAV unit. The routing is horrid, and the interface, well, sucks. I've been using it a lot to get a real feel for it, and the voice commands? Terrible. Unless they do something drastic to this NAV setup, I may never buy another Genesis. It's really bad to say it but my $150 Garmin ROCKS the beejeeezus out of the Genny's NAV system.

From your post it seems as though the company that did the data gathering for Hyundai left out Arizona. I live in north Georgia and the update added numerous new roads and also shows my Bank's Branches, major oil companies gas stations, etc. If you want to vary/change the routing just add a waypoint.

it's hit or miss. (example: there's this little tire company in Akron - hmm, think it's called Goodyear - with HQ at 200 Innovation Way. there is no such road in the updated nav.) but generally it's useful.

the electronics in this (and most rentals i've driven in the past yr - Ford, Chrysler, GM, Toyota) all feel like "software developed by a car company", rather than software developed by a software developer for a car.

still beats the heck out of what was there even 20 yrs ago.

Exactly. I used almost exactly the same words. I did get a phone call from them just last night to discuss the issue of having to know if it is a st, drv, blvd, pt, etc. when often just the street name is given. They did agree that this was a problem that Google and Garvin seem to have solved.
