Waited 2 days for a call back from Hyundai customer service no go so I called them back. A gentleman named Steve answered my call back and was more knowledgeable about the problem then the first person. He told me what the dealer had installed was version 6 and said that version 7 had just come out in Oct. Apparently the dealer did not have the latest version. I don’t think they even knew that. So I’m again waiting for a call back after the dealer is told they don’t have the latest version.
I wish I could get a free upgrade. Any tricks to request one? I am still on one of the first versions.
Depends on what model year you have. The 2011's were released into the market with 2+ year old maps, which caused an uproar and rash of complaints. So HMA decided to dish out free updates to those customers who complained. I'm pretty sure the freebies were only for that narrow band of customers.
One of the design flaws of the Genny is the inane process to update the head unit software. It's not modular where you can update just the Nav maps, or apply an ECU/TCU patch.
It's an all or nothing proposition. Takes hours and is susceptible to bricking, and HMA will not cover dealer errors if they brick the head unit - second design error: no factory reset switch and ROM chip inside the head unit. So you can certainly bet a few dead presidents that most dealers don't rush to risk a $3k mistake.
So to get that freebie update, you a) need to have the right MY car, and b) you need to be politely persistent and work through the dealer to get to HMA customer care.

My car is a 2009 Genesis 4.6. A large area of my neighborhood was expanded in 2011 with a new entrance built to our adult community. My old nav, of course, insisted upon sending me to the old, single entrance when taking me "home".
Earlier this year my Lexicon tape deck failed (sort of my fault). The warranty on this was only for three years but I bought an extended warranty (against my better instincts). The Lexicon unit was entirely replaced and it came back with fully updated navigation maps, including the new portions of our neighborhood. All free. Pretty good deal. I have almost paid for that extended warranty in repair savings already.
I've been using the 'new' update now for a few weeks. The NAV still SUCKS. My home was built in 1993. We just purchased it in May. It does not exist on this sucky NAV unit. I'm finding businesses that have been around for years don't exist in this sucky NAV unit. The routing is horrid, and the interface, well, sucks. I've been using it a lot to get a real feel for it, and the voice commands? Terrible. Unless they do something drastic to this NAV setup, I may never buy another Genesis. It's really bad to say it but my $150 Garmin ROCKS the beejeeezus out of the Genny's NAV system.
I have a 2010 with a 2009 map version. I have been in contact with the navi people feeding them map errors as I find them. They have said in passing that there will be an October 2014 update with the errors corrected so it looks like they do an map update every two years. I just wish they would use the same road abbreviations as Google maps. Otherwise, my head my explode. <G>
