  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Folks buying a 2013 or 2014 Genesis, don't get the sunroof wind deflector...

I didn't have one on my 2010, but it was a dealer toss-in on my 2012 so I said "What the heck, why not?" In addition to squeaking more than my little girl's bath toy, this thing started vibrating furiously in the wind at about 80 mph recently. The rubber seal around the bottom of it keeps peeling away. Definitely not recommended.

Never was a fan of this even when my then Mits Diamente that had one of these.
When purchased my Gennie I saw another or two that already had it installed and to me it does degrade the look of the car.

Who opens the sunroof?

I don't understand the relevance. The sunroof wasn't open during any of what I described. Did you assume it was open?

Indeed. I have had sunroofs on my last 5 or 6 cars - forced on me because they were included in packages that had something else I wanted - and I never opened any of them. Totally useless waste of money, and can't possibly enhance the structural integrity of the car to boot.

^What do you guys have against the open sky?:p And that little moonroof the Genesis doesn't effect the structual rigidy - the genesis chassis is very rigid/robust. However, cars that have a sunroof or especially a convertible have extra reinforcement to accommodate.

The point I was making is that most folks don't ever open the sunroof. Thus, most folks don't have, or need, a deflector. '-)

I use mine all the time. Rarely "open", but tilted up into "vent" quite often. Even closed, I keep the shade back even on sunny days since I had the glass tinted. Usually they just let too much light in without a tint, so this is one of the first things I do to my cars.

That being said, the sunroof deflector that came with my car is in the garage, still in the box.

First thing I had the detailer take off before he went to work on the car. That and the cheesy door edge guards.

Oh I gotcha. I kinda like a little fresh air sometimes. We eat a lot of Tex-Mex in Texas :-).

Here in the great frozen state of Minnestrota, we open our sunroofs when it gets up to 35F.

We even have something in Texas (and probably most of the southwest, really) called breakfast tacos. If you have never tried one or had one, you are probably giggling to yourself and saying, "Breakfast tacos? What in the world? Why would anyone want to eat a taco for breakfast" (At least, that's what I said). And yet by the time anyone has been here at least three years, they're wolfing 'em down with the rest of us. Mmmm I'll take potato, egg, and cheese, please. And a cardiologist appointment :-).

I didn't like those stupid looking things back in the 80s...... just dumb looking and serve NO purpose that is valuable.

I've noticed lots of new Gennys at my dealership have them...... that would kill a sale for me as I wouldn't want the holes in the roof patched after removal.

Out of the 20ish Gennys they had on the lot, over half had that stupid option. I don't know if it is dealer installed or port installed, but, why the dealer would either add it or accept it from the port is beyond me.

It's worse than the "velour" interior of the 70s!

It's a dealer installed option to get more money out of you. Mine didn't have one and just about every car on their lot dosen't have one.

And why would you need one if the sunroof already has a wind eflector that pops up when you open it. AND it works great.

But you wouldn't know that since you don't open yours. ;)

I got one for my 2011 Fusion. When I opened the sunroof at more than 60kmh(37mph), I had severe wind buffeting and thumping even though the Fusion came with a pop up deflector too. The bolt on one completely rectified the problem. With my Genny, I have not experienced this problem and I regularly drive on the highway with the sunroof open all the way. I guess this is another good point for Genesis.

I have one on my 2009, garaged w/ 48k miles. Has held up fine. No vibration or any other issues at 80+ mph. Yours was probably installed wrong.

We had the dealer remove ours before we would close the deal. They are stupid and add no value as there is a much better designed pop up that comes from the factory and is already on the car. As other have mentioned, just another way for the dealer to increase profit.

I personally installed a OEM deflector on my '12 RSpec. Took about fifteen minutes, tops. No issues whatsoever. It didn't vibrate or add to wind noise. With the sun roof open it was much, much quieter than without. It really "worked" for me. It is not so obvious on a black car.
My '13 is white and I will not install a deflector, simply because I rarely, if ever, open my sunroof.
So, if your car comes with a sunroof, just remove it if you don't like it. Not a big deal....
