  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

but when I picked up my new Genesis, the dealer told me only for 3 months. Is this correct?
Thanks and I'm loving it!

I was told by the salesman it was for a year as well. I guess I will find out next month. Of course XM may not be around in a year :D

I believe it is three months in Canada and one year in the USA. My subscription is good for 3 months. 3.8 with tech package.

So does the salesman who activates tell XM it is for a year? Any ideas how one can clarify, or as a GREAT President would say, "Trust. Then verify."

I too was told at purchase that it is 1 year (3.8 base car). But XM called a few days ago (trying to sell me on keeping my subscription) and they clearly gave me my turn-off date 3 months from purchase. I told the rep that I was told I have 1 year, but she was clear it is 3 months in their system. I don't listen to it (and it cuts out every time I go under a bridge / enter my garage) so it's not a huge deal for me. Would be nice, however, to get accurate info from the dealer.

Ditto to what Vlad92 said;

I seldom (to never) listen to XM. I did tune it just to see how good it works, however there is almost nothing on there that I want to listen to. EXCEPTION is that I sometimes listen to the "clean" comedy on 151 and sometimes to the oldtime radio on 164. I find that the "commercial free" XM still has commercials, in one way or another.

My previous car came with 6 months of free Sirius Radio, and after they contacted me a couple times, I told them to go pound salt.

I get along quite well without XM/Sirius. On long trips, I have 6 MP3CD plus I can always find good stuff on FM, plus I listen to a lot of AM.

I have xm for over a year now. If you want to get it cheap all you have to do is call them up and cancel it or wait till you get a call from them and cancel it. Tell them you don't listen it much and for that money isn't worth for you. She/he will offer you less monhly charge. Don' settle anything over the half price. If they don't want to go for it just hang up(tell them you have to go) and call the next day. That's what I did and ended up another 3 months free and after 3 months 50% off for a year. I told few of my friends and they ended up paying the same.

Good luck with it.

Ditto on the 3 month "story" from XM the 1 st time. After two Hyundai reps and another call to XM: "we have to show three months on computer, after the 3 months are up, you will see the nine months remaining".

We'll see if "we see" :D

you can see what you were signed up for on the XM website. just log in and use you your radio ID # and your VIN #. (go to channel 0 on XM and it will display you radio ID.) the length of your free term will be displayed under your account info.

I have the 3.8 tech and it is one year free. I added Sirius channels for 1 year and it cost $40.

Hope this helps.

Yes, theoretically, I did that and have done that periodically, and in my case, still shows 3 months for my 4.6/tech package. We'll see in March what it changes to, hopefully, trusting the Hyundai reps & XM. Could be the dealer in Sierra Vista, AZ, didn't know that the tech carries a 1 yr subscription??? When I called them they deferred to XM, which deferred to Hyundai, which deferred to Xm, etc, etc

I tried this months ago after I got the car and it didn't work. Tried again after this post and SURPRISE. Either HMA or the dealer loaded something because this it what pops up, after you create an account (Didn't need the VIN):

so 3.8 with tech package gets 1 year? this is what I was told but just want to confirm. On my other car I have sirius and only pay $12 per month and its highly worth it. I cant listen to regular radio anymore.

Apparently Canada may have a different deal, but the base deal here is Tech Pack = 12 mo, Non Tech Pack = 3 mo.

Yes, in Canada everybody only gets 3 months free on XM. Not just Hyundai, every car manufacturer except Toyota who gets 6 months.

The 4.6 window sticker (at least on the tech package) states 1 year of XM included.

So even if XM messes up, HYUNDIA MUST honor and pay XM for the additional 9 months.

Got 3 months free of XM service with my '08 Corvette. I dropped it after the free period was over. Just got a mailing from XM offering me a year of basic service for $77.00. Not sure I'll subscribe as there are too many drop outs even when I'm on open roads with no trees or buildings nearby. :)

So, I tried this online for my 3.8/Tech but XM doesn't have my radio ID on record, which must mean the dealer didn't register me. (Purchased 5 days ago.) What if I do nothing? Unending XM service because the car appears unsold? Or automatic loss of service after some undetermined time?
