  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Stick-on genesis emblem for steering wheel

Thank You NSXNEXT... That is not a bad price for the appearance upgrade you get. Thanks for the install tips as well. Much appreciated...

Np. Anytime. I also bought a US spec wood wheel for my RSpec. I had to install/uninstall the wheel to correct it being off center so many times I've gotten pretty good at it. :)

All the other "wings" are Hyundai OEM parts from the Korean version of the Genesis. The existing H on the US Genesis steering wheel is not removable, so any wing has to sit on top of it (the OEM Korean part is the entire airbag assembly).

One problem any wing that sits on top of the existing one is product liability, since if the airbag is deployed, anything siting on top of the bag is going to come flying off at a very high rate of speed and could injure someone. Lawyers love that kind of stuff.

probably the least of your worries in the scenario you describe.

I am not talking about the driver, I am talking about his/her lawyer. A personal injury lawyer would file suit against the emblem maker for every dime they can possibly get, and most likely would win. That's one reason why you would never see any company with any brains make something that sits on top of an airbag assembly.

If anyone is interested, the lease is up on my 2011 Genny 4.6, and I'll be selling some of the extras I bought for it. I'll be putting the original airbag back on and selling the KDM one (grey). I'll get my crap together and post it in the "For Sale" section in the next day or so.

and suing the emblem maker impacts me how?? I guess you could also sue the leather maker for the airbag on the other side as the leather dash panel explodes on impact. I hear your point I think your picking fly stuff out of pepper.

not that there's a referendum, but i happen to think that the stick-on oval is a nice (cheap) compromise. sure, the KDM airbag looks better, but this isn't awful.

slight aside: given the way these airbags deploy, i seriously doubt that the sticky badge is going to come into play during a deployment.

NSXNEXT Can you post up a picture of your steering wheel when you get a chance or email me a pic?

It impacts all of us in that no reputable company is going to put forth any effort to make something to cover the flying H that is more attractive. Those who have tried to remove the existing flying H on the airbag assembly know it is deeply embedded and very difficult to get out.

Low quality old cell pic - NSX might have a better pic.....

Thanks for the picture scottdk I like the way it looks. Stopped at the dealer this morning on the way to work and every 2014 Genesis on the lot has the flying H... Looks like crap.

The more I look at it... the more I want the Air Bag swap. Looks cleaner.

oh well... best to not look at them then...

Found this on the forum (not mine).

I called my dealer a few years back when I got my KDM airbag and asked how much they would charge to swap. They quoted $39 plus tax, which was very reasonable at the time, but member MADMOE convinced me the swap was very easy and to do it myself. He was right, it was easy. Plus some automotive parts company bought my OEM bag from Ebay for $150.

for 12.00 or so... put the sticker on. If you don't like it....buy the Air Bag replacement for several hundred dollars...

This is exactly what I did. I bought the stick on emblem. I actually wished that I had left the flying H after I did it. The stick on to me was a mismatch and I didn't like it. So I ordered the KDM airbag. As soon as I get home from my business trip, I will be doing the airbag swap.....

you wont look back once you swap. outside changes are for you and others to admire. the inside is all for you.

Just wear a bag on over your head. That way, just in case someone sees your keychain and notices you drive a Hyundai, they won't be able to see who it is.

Exactly right, Mark. I can't tell you how many times strangers have noticed my keyfob and looked away in pity. I feel shamed for life.
