  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When will the 2015 Hyundai Genesis be at dealerships?

I've test driven 3 different 2015 V6 Genesis so far at various dealerships. The dealers in my area are marking them up between $1400-$5000 OVER MSRP right now. Those with the $1400 markup seem to do this on EVERY car in the lot with their dealer added pin striping, tint, nitrogen BS. The one dealer that had marked up their ONLY Genesis (brown exterior I might add) said that the $5000 markup was a "Value Package".

About 1 hour away there is one dealer that is selling their '15 Genesis' at $1000 below INVOICE! I believe that they had a 2015 Genesis 3.8 Base for around $35,200 + destination. When I spoke with them yesterday they had already sold that one and took my name down along with my color/options preferences for incoming cars.

What a lucky kid. Not only great looking but soon to be enjoying the view from the back seat of '15 Genesis. Good luck to both of you.

Got a chance to see a 2105 today at a local dealer. It was the only one they received - a black base 3.8. It is a very different car in person - all my surfing and looking at pictures and video did not really represent how substantial the car looked in the flesh...metal.

The grill is not that overwhelming - it is large, but the whole car is large. In fact, that is probably my first main impression - it is a big car. The rear seat room was very good and seats felt excellent. The base car is a bit bland inside - very nice, but functional in a kind of sterile way. When I shut the door of the car which sat on the showroom, it shut with a german-like seal and was amazingly quit. The car had a $2995 market adjustment markup on the window sticker, but I was told by the GM that nothing is firm.

I left torn - it is an impressive looking car, but it did not raise the BP like some cars which it attempts to honor. On paper, it is a clear winner, on the emotion scale I am not so sure. I will wait and see a premium version and drive a V8. I am in no real rush and will let the prices settle down and inventory to increase before I make a possible move.

  • pin stripping - don't want it even if free
  • tint - dealer tint job using cheapest dye film available that will eventually fade
  • nitrogen - I would bet a lot of money they don't actually do that (just charge for it)

EXACTLY!!

All of the dealers who had pin-striping on their "Dealer Added" list told me it was mandatory and that they were striped as soon as the hit the lot. I pointed out that some of the cars on their lot were not striped and their universal answer was "well the guy hasn't gotten to that one yet". Then I asked if I could reserve one without striping to which their reply was "Well, you would have to pay for it anyway" or "you could always have it taken off".

I also explained that I preferred a darker tint than their ultra-light shade and if I could select a darker color. Their answer was "No, but you could take it elsewhere and have the tint changed to a darker color"...

Good grief!

Has anyone had any luck finding one through a car buying program (Costco, AAA, etc) ?

The pin striping, mud guards, nitrogen, etc. BS will keep premium buyers away. If Hyundai wants to court BMW/MB/Audi converts, the bargain basement dealer experience will be a turn off. I thought pin striping went out in the '70's?

What are you expecting to pay for it? MSRP, above MSRP, below MSRP?

Below msrp which may mean waiting a few weeks but no biggie. Not interested in paying at or above msrp. My 3 dealers here in houston have not marked the up so that's a good sign.

I doubt that many dealers are doing pinstriping and tint like that pirate. Just buy your car elsewhere, even if you have to get it serviced at that dump.

My dealer had pin striping on their one car - the lines of this car are destroyed by pin striping IMHO. I would charge them for using their pin striping just as I would also charge an advertising fee for any dealer nameplate they bolted on the car.

Anyone know what the bolt pattern is on the Genesis? Looking at other wheel options

Motegi,
What part of the country are you located in?

Hey it's 80% nitrogen!!!

I cannot believe how many have fallen for this. Somebody made a $hitload of cash on great sales pitches and naive people.

Hey it's 80% nitrogen!!!
That is a wild exaggeration. I think it is closer to 79%.

I have nothing against using 100% nitrogen to in tires. They do that at Costco (no extra charge) and based on my experience tire pressures with 100% nitrogen are less likely to decline over time compared to air. But I just don't think the Hyundai dealer mentioned above even bothered to refill the tires with 100% nitrogen like Costco does. Yes, I do realize that even if you use 100% nitrogen to fill a tire, about the most you can actually get inside the tire is maybe 95% nitrogen (unless the tire was filled in a vacuum).

Yes, in all seriousness the less water in the tire the better, whichever gas you choose.

7. CO2... seems to get a lot of press buzz... but I wonder if it would ever turn on. I'm not a doctor, but it sounds a little gimmicky.

When I get a headache after driving for half-an-hour or so, the first thing I check whether I turned on air recirculation, and in most cases I did. I guess that's what the whole CO2 sensor gimmick is about and I guess it would be useful at least for me on a several occasions. Paying extra for it alone - I don't know; couple it with the rest of the features (HUD - #1) - sure thing.
