Hey guys.

So I will be trading my '12 gen maybe at the end of this year. I was looking at the IS 350 sport...and it's a nice car but too small for my taste ( got spoiled by the spacious Genesis ;) ) I do love all the features of the new Gen but the only thing holding me back is the redesigned car. The grill just bothers me :( . Anyways the second closest in mind is the Infinity Q50s. I love the design and interior looks nice. The only thing holding me back on that car is the cooling seats missing feature. I need it for sure, gets quite hot in California and my black car doesn't make it any better :p

Anyways what do you guys think? Anyone has any experience with Infinity cars? Or anyone who went from older genesis models to the new one?

Thanks in advanced :)

I have a 2014 Genesis.
Yesterday I rode in my friend's 2015 Premium.
I can tell you they are not even close to the same car.
Plush, quiet and the V-8 is quick. So much more as far as features and amenities.
My 2014 rides rough, this 2015 is really smooth.
Just might be the car that keeps me in the Brand.

I had two Infinitis many years ago. Great cars, and great dealership.

The Q50 and Genesis are totally different cars. The closest Infiniti to the Genesis is the car formerly known as the M. (I think that is the Q70 now.)

If you are ready to jump to the smaller car, then the Q50 is fantastic. If you want the size of the Genesis, then go with the 2015 or the Infiniti Q70.

Edit: I had a typo I meant "Q50," not "G50."

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
My understanding is that the cooled seats are not as cracked up as they appear. I believe only a few cars actually vent A/C air through the seats, and most simply use cabin air. The Q50S has other things more desirable like LED headlights and sport items which help sell the cars more sporting image. It is however no match for the value of the Genesis or some of it's tech.

I traded a G37S 6MT for my R-Spec. I really enjoyed the Infiniti but due to some back problems I was having trouble with it. The Q50 is obviously a more refined car than what I had which can be good or bad depending on what you want. It's actually a really nice size, albeit much smaller than the Genesis. Still quite comfortable for four people, though, and I'm 6'1". It's also very quick, basically on par with the new Genesis 5.0 but with a different power curve. I'd say go drive it and see what you think.

Infinity makes good cars. That said, they seem to have lost there way in much the same way as Acura. Infinity sales are really down in my area. The name change of their vehicles is rather silly, however, since not many are buying M's or G's changing everything to q's is not likely to make much of a difference. I think they are gambling that folks wont be sharp enough to see that there are no new models, just new names. IMO they really botched up the M with the current redesign. Part of their issue is that all of their vehicles look like Nissans, only with a premium price. I sure hope they get their act together soon.

That's funny because I traded my '12 R Spec for the G37s (manual sedan) after having the oil burning issues. I just felt uncomfortable keeping a car with an engine replaced.

I did have to get used to the sheer size difference of the car but everything else has been positive. It doesn't have the torque of the R Spec but she will get down the road pretty good. I find the seats much better in the G!

The '15 Genesis appears to be MUCH improved. The Q50 will be more "tossible" than the Genesis.
Spend as much time as you can in each ride before your purchase. Can't go wrong with either.

PS
The Q50s hybrid was an awesome performer! But there is limited trunk space due to the batteries.

I live in Houston and WILL NOT buy a car without ventilated seats. I would be interested in the Q50 as well if it had them. The worst ventilated seats made are still better than not having them. I know that because I have the car with the worst ventilated seats (BMW 5 series). I've had six or seven vehicles now with them and it's a deal breaker for me.

You guys are AWESOME! Yes...i did test drive the New Genesis because everytime i go to my dealer there is this korean guy who wants me to trade it to a new one ( he's been bothering me since my second oil change at the dealer since last year )

Anyways I did and wow....Genesis is an amazing car and couldn't believe all the goodies inside. However the grill....didn't look too bad from far away but in close proximity in my opinion looked horrible ( Sorry if i'm offending anyone with a '15 gen ) just not my taste.

I will definitely test drive the Q50 but like I said...no cooling seats = no deal lol

And the Q70's look....looks outdated :( Sorry I'm so picky lol but I had so many vehicles I want my next one to be almost perfect :)

Thanks everyone!

Traded a 2012 4.6 for a 2014 IS350 Fsport. I enjoy the IS much more than I did the Genesis -- which was a really good car. The IS is like having 2 cars in one. In normal mode it's just a Lexus as we all know and hate them. In sport and sport+ mode -- it's a BMW beater -- I kid you not. It is a tighter fit than a Genesis but everything is ergonomically accessible with little movement. A drivers car it is

And how does it compare to a 2015 Genesis model, the subject of this forum thread?

And how does it feel to be the self appointed thread police? I have no ideas how it compares to the 2015 Genesis. Do you know have direct empirical experience as to how the 2015 Genesis compares to the 2015 Q50?

I'll treat this as a teachable moment -- he mentioned he considered the IS. I shared my experience. So that others wouldn't think I was just an IS owner jumping in -- I pointed out that I was in fact a Genesis owner.

The Q50 would annihilate the Genesis performance wise

And personally I think the Q50 has a more clean, buttoned down appearance than the Genesis.

For a big luxury car the Genesis only comes with black carpet, and black lower door panels which scream CHEAP!!

Drive both and let us know!

Being a happy previous G35xS owner, I want to like the Q50s. On paper it is impressive, but the overall look is beginning to look dated to me as it has slowly evolved from the G to Q. I do like the more sporty interior as well as sport items and LED lights, but it does not seem like a car whose look will not be as current in the next few years.

Of course realistically I don’t consider this an “apples to apples” comparison.
I test drove the Q50 AWD since I presently own an Infiniti G which I find to be exceptionally fun to drive and so it did merit evaluation when considering a new car. It is an excellent car in all areas except interior room. I found the seats while very supportive a bit cramped as well as shoulder room. Like a lot of the reviews have stated it is a very nice car though it has lost some of its “hard edge” in exchange for improved ride quality. So in their opinion it wasn’t as much fun to drive as the G model it replaces. Measured by the qualities that determine a large luxury car it fell short. (For me) Wouldn’t mind owning one as long as I have a comfortable luxury car also and that was the focus of my decision.

No contest. Genesis by a mile. I just compared the two and it's hands down that the Genesis is better.

I just traded in my 2007 G35S for a 3.8 Ultimate and while I miss the raw power of the G35 and the sportiness, the Genesis is by far a more refined vehicle. Certainly not as sporty but definitely not soft.

Plus, I am getting 28mpg+ highway which is at least 5mpg more than I ever got in the G35.

I was fortunate enough to able to keep mine and trade in my wife’s 2011 Genesis. I love the Genesis but the G is just a lot of fun to drive. Different kind of car of course.

...

Styling is extremely subjective, the Q50 exterior is just barely acceptable if not down right ugly to me. The interior Genesis wins hands down.

I have no problem with the color of the door panel. But the Genesis V8 with Napa leather, panoramic roof, suede headliner and smart card key is what I consider luxury. Any plastic material if not black, can look cheap quickly on a car, especially grey and beige.

Q50 is also on my list because of its semi-autonomous driving capability on the highway, but based on my research performance wise it is not all that impressive. Don't take magazine test number too seriously, but it seems that the Q50S and Genesis V8 are on par performance wise. The Genesis of course is a more expensive but also luxurious vehicle.

The Q50S in this test also appear to be wearing SP Sport Maxx 050 DSST performance summer tires compared to the Genesis that's running on Hankook all season. I honestly expected more.

This is where that extra weight of the new Genesis hurts. A V6 car with 100 HP less is as fast as the V8 Genesis. The almost 900 pounds of extra weight negates that HP advantage of the Genesis while also incurring a 25% gas mileage penalty to boot.
