  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I hope this is not a re-post, but are there any options on the V8 that you cannot get on the V6? If I could get the V6 with the exact same features I would opt for the V6, but I thought there was some things you can get on the V8 you could not get on the V6. I hope this is not to wordy. Thanks for any insight you can give me. Joe

Ultra leather seating.
ZF tranny
limited slip rear
door sill lighted GENESIS steps
larger brakes all around

All that I can remember ....

Hey Joe--- I'm a V6 guy that wanted everything in a V8 so I can speak to this.

Outside of the obvious engine thing: Extra Special Marshmallow-y seat leather is not available on the V6. I have added pretty much everything else to my V6 (includes the lower door chrome strip, backlit skuff plates, and seems like something else I can't remember at the moment).

There ARE comments on the forum about the ride difference on the V6 vs V8 and I'm concluding that the consensus is that the V6 has the better ride of the two versions.

So- outside of the leather, you can make it V8-ish. I've even used the Zaino Leather In A Bottle now, about 5 times on my V6 seats and I SWEAR they feel softer to me.

According to a feature sheet I found on the Hyundai website, in addition to the items already mentioned above, the V8 has a woodgrain trimmed leather-wrapped steering wheel. From what people say about it, most actually prefer the all leather steering wheel in terms of driving comfort.

There's a great post called "Quality Time with the V6 & the V8" by kbmuenkel that you might find helpful.

Before I test drove any Genesis, I had exactly the same thought as you: if I could get the same features on a V6 as a V8, I'd take the V6 to save a little bit on up-front cost and fuel. Now I know that my Genesis will be the V8. Here's why...

I've test driven the V6 and V8 back to back on two separate occasions (four different cars), and in my opinion, there is a meaningful difference in ride between the two trims. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not a Genesis owner yet. I arrived at the dealer this past Sunday with the intention of buying a Black/Black V8 4.6 (which they just got in), only to discover that someone else bought it (paid by their company no less!) about 15 minutes before I got to the dealership! So I took the opportunity to extensively compare the V6 and V8 again, taking each out for 30-45 minutes. The only Black/Black they had left was a V6, so the sales guy was actually suggesting I go with the 3.8 (V6) since it's "pretty much the same" and costs less. I was, and still am, dead set on Black. Here are some observations:

(1) The V8 is noticeably quieter. I'm not saying that the V6 isn't quiet. It is. But the V8 is more so. I noticed that immediately, even when just driving off the dealer lot.

(2) Based on my limited experience above, the V8 is also noticeably more composed, powering through bumps and road imperfections, whereas the V6 felt more jittery and bounced around more. In fact, the salesman (a passenger on both test drives) openly admitted that the 4.6 felt significantly smoother and more composed. Keep in mind that this is right after he was pushing me toward the Black/Black 3.8 we just drove first. He also agreed with me that the engine in the V8 is much quieter.

(3) This is admittedly subjective, but the steering on the 4.6 feels a bit more solid to me. It's not a huge difference but definitely noticeable. OTOH, the 3.8 felt a bit more "tossable" most likely because it's a slightly lighter car, with less effort required to turn the wheel.

(4) This is not a "ride" difference per se, but the leather in the V8 is much nicer and luxurious, I would say buttery soft compared to the rubbery, rougher feel of the 3.8 leather. The difference is immediately noticeable upon sitting. Well, maybe this is a ride thing after all... ;-)

So, even though I didn't get my Genesis yet, I'm 100% certain that when I do, it will be the 4.6. I liked the feel/composure of the ride, so the extra $2k is worth it TO ME, especially since gas mileage is similar and you get a few more horses under the hood! Needless to say, acceleration from 55 mph to 90 mph is much smoother in the V8!

You should test drive both trims and see which you like better and if the differences justify the delta in price/availability. Ride quality can be subjective, and even different cars of the same trim may ride differently. Who knows? You might even prefer a V6...though I suspect not. ;-)

I have to agree with nova1. When i took a test drive of the two last weekend i too noticed all of the above mentioned.

The V8 also has electric power steering - hence the tighter feel. Also aids fuel economy.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I have driven the V-6...very nice. When the weather gets better in the Buffalo,NY area I will be trying out the V-8. ( I know in Bflo it could be July 4th)....Joe

Electric power steering usually isn't good for steering feel, but I have yet to drive the V8 myself. Need to.

What is meant by "electric" is how the power is assist is generated, as opposed to a power steering assist system that runs off a belt attached to the engine. By eliminating the belt to drive the power steering system, and using electric motor assist, there is no engine drag and fuel mileage is improved (however slightly). Since all vehicles these days have some sort of power steering assist, whether it is electric assist, or belt driven off the engine, should have no effect on the "feel."

I thought the V6 also had Electric Power Steering, but I guess I'm wrong.

Depends on whether the system is pure electric, or electro-hydraulic. In the latter, an electric motor drives a hydraulic system, so there is no impact on the feel. With a pure electric system, the electric motor directly assists the steering, and there usually is an impact.

I now see that the Genesis has an electro-hydraulic system, not true EPS, so as you say there should be no impact on feel.
